If you having vibrations under 30 you might need one of those wheel centric rings that center your new wheel to the hub also for the size tire you have you would need 14oz of balance beads per rim/tire but more then likely the rim just isn’t centered correctly on the hub face causing a permanent vibration. Also your tattoo switched sides half way threw the video

Custom Offsets installed everything so I have no idea what weight of balancing beads they used, but I didn't have a hub centric wheel ring so that's a possibility to what was causing the issue. And yeah just the difference between front and rear camera on my phone makes it look different.

If you have a problem, and you're setup is lug-centric instead of hub-centric, that is the first thing to rule out.

After watching your video a few things come to mind.
    1. Did you have tire weights on your tires before you switched to the beads? If so, approximately what was the maximum amount of balance weight you had on any one tire?
    2. How many ounces of beads did they put in your tires?
    3. The amount of weight in balance beads should be equal or more that the greatest amount of wheel weights you had on your tires. If not, you WILL have, and did have balance issues.
    4. Adding too much balance beads is pretty much not possible (with in reason) because of the nature of how they operate.
There are charts that recommend by tire size how many ounces of beads to put in each tire. These charts are based on tire size-weight averages. And if yours apparently are not average. Or your wheels are not average or balanced. You will have to add more bead weights. How do we know if they are average or not? It's very hard to tell.
On my Jeep the tires are 1 size taller than stock. On 1 tire I had to add 5 ½ oz of lead weight to that tire. It apparently is not average. 2 tires have less than 2 oz of lead weight and 1 tire had no weights.
Most of those charts and the manufactures of the beads will say that if there are out of balance issues after the recommend amount beads have been installed. You will have to add more beads. It seems that you have not done this. And because of that you had issues that could have been easily fixed.
It seems that you may have less weight in beads vs tire weights in your tires. Which will cause you have balance issues. There is no way around this.
Saying that wheel weights are better than balance beads when apparently your tires have less weight in balance beads installed vs wheel weights. Is almost like saying the heater in my truck doesn’t heat the truck when it is 20f outside when I go down the freeway at 60mph with 2 windows open because I like the airflow.
I would suggest to add 2oz of balance beads to each tire and then run them. If it feels better but not good. Add 1oz at a time after that till it is good.
Is this a PIA to do. Yes. But when you get finished you truck’s tires will run smooth and longer till the tread is gone. 😀

I use them, balance beads, in all my trucks. The issue I have found, depending on the tire, is the suggested weight of the beads may be to low. On tire’s that are heavy, 37’s for example or 19.5” commercial tires, I add 35-45 percent more balance beads over what is spec’d.

    • @RigepFroggit
      @RigepFroggit 7 місяців тому

if you're running a 37-38 inch tire and it's a heavy one with lots of sidewall you should be using 14 ounces on each tire. If you're load range E or above with plenty of sidewall or you're a class 6/8 tire you should be using between 14 and 18 ounces each tire. My lifted and modified Ex is a bit over 9k pounds so I run heavy truck off-road tires and those things are a bit over 200lbs each between wheel and tire. That's a lot of weight to balance.

Been using beads for the last 15 years with ZERO issue, except for the time i used them in my car. For what it’s worth, they’re NOT recommended for cars. I’m assuming that the reason why you had issues is because of the tire its self. Low profile tires are not recommended to have beads. Have over 60,000 miles expierence on my cycle and LOVE THEM in the cycle. Put 4 ounces in my stock ram 1500, 20” tires, and had no problem in there.

I know this was a year ago but Custom Offsets quality has gone way done. In finish and true roundness. I bought a set when Arkon 1st came out and they rode beautifully. I bought another set last year and the chrome had flaws in every wheel and the ride was horrible. I even had the tire shop put a wheel with no tire on the machine and you could see it wobble up and down. It called for 6ozs with no tire.

I know someone with a highly modified big block Chevy humvee, uses balance beads. Huge tires over 40’s, smooth on highway with balance beads.
I know someone with a jeep, stretched wheelbase, massive differential housings, custom suspension and huge coil overs, custom suspension links with solids rod ends, it’s a serious rock crawler, beadlock wheels. 44 inch tires. drives it to work sometimes. No issues down highway at speeds faster than most people ever drive. Also uses balance beads.
I asked them both about balance beeds cause discount tire is getting stupid with prices to buy street tires for regular trucks, and I refuse to use clip on weights, I use adhesive weights in the inside.
I know many performance street cars run forgeline wheels, and they have said they can throw a tire on those wheels without balancing and they are smooth to 135 all the time.
Motorcycle tires have a yellow dot. When I rod many other owners would mount their own tires with the correct tools called spoons. You align the yellow dot on the tire with valve stem on the wheel and don’t need to balance. Motorcycle wheels are balanced.
So quality of wheels and tires and size is a direct correlation to how well they balance.
Not to mention huge tires and wheels weigh a lot. Bearings and hub assemblies take a beating from oversized tires, and parts wear out when vehicles are modified beyond what the factory intended.
I have seen big 2500 series diesel pickups that drag race, every 6 months, they replace bearings in the axle housings. People should learn that when you modify things parts wear out faster and periodic maintenance increases.

Under 40mph a tire balance doesn't seem to matter and if you feel shaking at lower speeds, then its the tread on tire or something else. I removed 3oz of balance weights in my 20's and immediately noticed an improvement with 5oz of beads put in all my tires. I like the idea that as you pickup rocks and ice, the wheels with try to balance through the life of the rubber. Wheels before I had always gotten choppy on 2 different vehicles. I'm hoping beads are thee answer going forward. I've heard great things from a number of drivers who used them for years.

What brand was used? A LOT of people don't use the RIGHT tire balancing beads. DO NOT USE substitute airsoft BB's for tire balancing beads! True balancing beads have a specific size, they are coated to repel moisture, some are electrostatic, they don't break down etc.
Also use the RIGHT AMOUNT of balancing beads! Better to go too much rather than too little, but way too much is not good either. Companies that have balancing beads will tell you how much to buy. More often than not people don't use balancing beads correctly.
Having said all this, there may be an issue with low profile extremely wide tires....I'm not sure. I use them in my RV because I have valve extenders on my duallys (permanent kind, not screw on) and the hood does not close on a traditional tire balancer.

Good info. So I have a question for ya. I used to have toyo open country rt 33 x 12.5 18s amd had beads put in at the dealer with zero issues. Truck road awesome. I just recently bought venom power trail in the same size and the dealer put 6 ounces of beads in them and at 75 or faster it shakes so I went to another local shop and he removed the beads out of one tire amd put it on the balancing machine amd it called for 12 ounces on the outside of the rim and 6 on the inside so he just put 12 ounces of beads in all four tires and it's worse. Do you have any suggestions on my next step?

  • @strokerta1986
    @strokerta1986 Рік тому

The tires and wheels are probably imbalanced at the same point and causing an imbalance that the beads can't balance out.
Spin the tires 1/2 turn on the wheels and try again.
*wheel weights can have the same issue... this can be seen when a lazy installer sticks 2 lbs of weights on a wheel trying to balance it.
If you are hub centric check the hub sizing, and still follow proper lug tightening to help ensure center.

Why am I not surprised? Because for balancing beads to work they would need to defy the laws of physics. A wheel of a vehicle is not the same as a drum of a washing machine. The wheel is forced to rotate around its fixed rotational axis. The washing machine drum is allowed to rotate (nearly) around its centre of gravity. An initially unbalanced wheel will create forces working on its axis as soon as it is set into motion. The forces will try to deflect the wheel in the direction of the imbalance. To prevent the deflection you add counterweights. With the inside of the tyre assumed perfectly toroidal and the wheel not rotating the beads would all sit at the bottom. Once the wheel starts turning the beads would eventually distribute themselves evenly around the inside of the tyre. If the wheel is imbalanced it will try to deflect in the direction of the imbalance by bending of its suspension and compressing / stretching of its suspension springs / flexing of the tyre. The beads would if moving at all actually follow the imbalance and increase it. To balance the wheel they would have to roll uphill. Between 1842 and 1847, Julius Robert von Mayer , James Prescott Joule , and Hermann von Helmholtz discovered and formulated the basics of what we refer to today as the law of conservation of energy and it's been universally accepted as accurate ever since. Dyna Beads functioning would be a direct contradiction to this law of physics.

If you want wheels with rediculous offsets like this to balance properly and ride smooth, you have to accept that it will require adhesive weights on the outside rim. The closer the weights are placed to the edge of the tires, the more accurate and less weight will be required. If you dont want to have weights on the outside rim of these kind of wheels, then you will just have to accept that they are probably going to vibrate. If you arent willing to put up with the vibration and not have visible weights on the face of the wheel, then these are not the wheels for you. Its a tradeoff of these wheels look cool, but ride like shit. If you allow balancing weights on the outside though, they will ride smooth at 120MPH.

hard to judge balance beads on your mall crawler vs those of us who have more rubber then rim. I have 285/75R16 Steel Wheels on my 4Runner and have never had issues with A/T, M/T tires of various brands from Toyo to Milestar.
I totally understand you have issues before, but it's exactly that. Just YOUR issue in this specific circumstance. No one should use this to help sway their decision.

Quite honestly me, and probably everyone else watching this video, don't give a shit about your 4Runner on steel wheels. How is it "hard to judge"? Balancing beads are still balancing beads regardless of the set up they're in. They were recommended and installed by professionals who deal with wheels and tires everyday. Why shouldn't this be used to help someone with their decision? Some people have great luck with them, including myself when used in my semi tires. Some people have bad luck with them too, like I did here. I never said to use or not to use them, I just shared my experience.
