- In this video I demonstrate how to play the song Jessie's Girl Boy Rick Springfield. Why you may ask? Well, this song is a great tune and also a crowd pleaser.... plus there are some cool part to learn in this tune and it's fun to play. I cover all the parts and also include tips on how to solo in D Major/B Minor with two popular pentatonic positions and provide incite on melodic soling phrases and how to dial in the right sound and feel. As musicians, we often have to play songs we don't like or are cliche. Remember, our job is to provide entertainment, and if the crowd loves it, chances are you will have a great time as well, and the club will as your band back to play again. And hey, you might just get lucky. I hope you enjoy the lesson. Please subscribe!

Neil Geraldo, Pat B’s husband, played on the original track.
I think Tim Pierce played on this song.
Neil Geraldo, so much underrated, played Bass and guitars on the track❤
Seen Spyder live many times. So good.
True. Neil played bass and lead on the recording. Rick was an accomplished guitar player prior to this, a popular band in Australia called "Zoot"
@@user-jq2pc1ff3c Tim toured with Rick for years but did not play on the studio recording.
Neil Geraldo was a monster guitarist!! Not only for all the Pat Benatar hits, but for this song and many others!
One of the best from the 80s 🤙🎵
More of the 80s. I can’t get enough of……Tim pierce was an awesome guitarist in this band. Still is. But Rick had some great guitar driven tunes that most people over look…..thanks man. Your the best dude
Thanks dude!! 😁🎸
I've always said this was the perfect 80s rock song...good to see a lesson
Remember turning up the radio whenever this song came on back in 81. I still do today, when music was real and creative.
You make a great point about playing to the audience. I live in S. America and people don't know most of what I'm learning/practicing - but how much CCR or AC/DC can one man tolerate?! This song surely fits for many events. Certainly not expected on this channel, but very welcomed. Thanks!
Although the chord progressions of this song are quite simple all the tricks involved make it challenging and interesting. Thanks for the lesson, Marty!
No way around it. You’re awesome. Thanks for this.
Still hear this on the radio regularly , yes, it’s catchy, we play Jenny Jenny , catchy poppy , and fun to play.
awesome lesson brother, that's definitely a crowd pleaser, and awesome bar song! brings back memories, another good one is the Outfield "Your Love"
Fantastic
Another great video! You are awesome, dude! Thanks!
Thanks 🙏 🎵
Love your channel🤘🤘
Thanks man! I really appreciate the support a lot. 😎🎸
love ya marty .!!! been playing this for decades , again , apparently wrong
Man., this song takes me back..rocking times👍
Wow thanks man your the best...
Marty
Thanks Marty! I remember people putin down on Rick back when because of the General Hospital / wall poster thing but what a treat it would be if new songs on pop radio had even a little of this old magic
I forgot about the poster lol
Thanks Marty! I hear 2 strums on the D in the main riff - but my hearing is getting worse as I near 60!
Yup! It's 2, not only one. The whole verse is 2x each cord!
Thanks@@AndyK.23!
Very cool this was a solid song.
Need to see how Pat benatar's husband spider had a little hand in it.
Cadillac I've done everything for you Sammy Hagar that Rick pretty much did really well.
I'm like you I think a lot of that 80 stuff pop rock too I really come to appreciate even though the two key members passed away the outfield again.
I would love it if you did a full lesson on You Gotta Love Somebody from Hard To Hold.
YES! This 👆
Keep these coming man.
Love these 80s rock tunes 😅
You bet man! It's a lot of fun. 😁🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
As a three man band, back in the day, there were a lot of songs that I would have to improvise the keyboard part on the guitar. Jump was one of them, but pulled it off convincingly.
Your lessons are the best!!! Great tune to learn!
Thanks so much man
Piviotal moment in Boogie Nights👍
She should be with ME!
👀 🧨
Great Job. Thanks. So far as i remember Tim Pierce plays guitar on the studio record.
My chibson looks just like yours! Only new! I got lucky ebony board! Fret nibs! Good build platform! Thanks Marty 🤘 😊
Way cool
😂 was just playing this yesterday with a couple friends...cool
Absolutely love that song! Great job!!
Super! Classic. Im with ya!
Too ironic. I was playing this last week but wasn’t on par.
Very cool, thanks Marty !!!
Thanks Marty 🍻
Do creatures of the night by kiss
I'm sure you are aware, but the "he" you are talking about is the awesome Neil Geraldo.
That one high part is tapped
True but the way Marty played it is easier. I've played this solo many times in covers and it's just easier not to tap the note.
Did you know that Neil Gerald Gerardo? Actually wrote the music for that song. Jessie's girl he played all the guitar parts on that whole album And he produced it Springfield. It was not much of a guitar player. New Gerardo. It's a very underrated guitar Player, he is played on.
So many albums is not funny and produce them
Sorry, but that's not actually correct. Neil played lead and bass only. Rick was the sole song writer, Keith Olsen was the producer. Rick was quite an accomplished guitar player, check out his previous band "Zoot" and their cover of Elenor Rigby.
@@theblacksquirrel.cool 😎
I watch Rick play this and fingering is different
Great song, but you’re missing a beat on the last D chord. That chord is played like all the chords before it. DD-AA-BB-GG-AA-D(D)
Every Jesse I’ve known hates this song…..
I bet! 😂
You didn't go over the solo you just tried to give a scale lesson. Teach the solo?
Yeh, the solo to me is one you can improvise over live (for me anyways). I showed the start and a couple signature bends. I just didn't feel that the solo is iconic enough for note for note replication. But that's just my opinion... I figured it may be more beneficial to show how to fish vs just serve the food in this case.
why would you want to?🙄
