I have been listening to Duran Duran since 1981 - before most in the USA One day they will get the notoriety they deserve for being brilliant composers and musicians This is spectacular!
Oh, you speak from the bottom of my heart! You must not be ashamed that you liked DD, they were ever a great band. And MTV was a great tv-programm. I saw Ray Cokes every evening. Do you remember the U2-competition? They played a gig in Sweden and it was broadcasted to an english blokes house! I wished I was him:) Now, MTV is crap! Poor children!
I respect this group! They made that song sound like their own! But no body has ever done it quite as good as the Animals! The animals version sounds so mean and powerful, i have never heard anyone duplicate it quite as good!
Fantastic rendition of a song with a ton of renditions. Coincidentally, I saw these cats in New Orleans a number of years ago. Stellar work... they make great original music, and they can get down, too. More than just pretty boys, even though that's the image that made them famous. They can belt out some really great music.
For those who may be unaware, Arguably one of the best band to come out of Britain in the eighties. you couldn`t turn **Mtv** on back then and not see a heavy rotation of them. ** MTV was a television program that played only music all day all night. By 1989-1990 was destroyed by corporate greed. U can still see a small version everyonce in a while when they play 1 song out of a 24 hour day.
This is an awesome version. Love how they injected their own style to it. Coming from a huge DD fan, I'd say the Animals still did it best. This come real close though.
With Simon's voice and Duran Duran's talent, they can take any song and make it amazing! And a special thank you to Simon for wearing such tight jeans. Yum!
mtv use to be great now well never watch it my kids dont either i have lisened to dd scince early 82 and have allways loved them scince the first song and sight simon is fanntastic,in looks and sound and this song was great.
Thanks for posting this. (good vid too!) A friend of mind heard them rehearsing this before a show that they didn't play the song in. I guess they were going to play it in the next show they were heading too. But anyway, to be honest, I love the boys, and I love the cover, but they just don't do a very good job here. Sorry Guys. It looks like J. Taylor was really struggling with the bass line. Good effort though boys!
This is really cool and interesting. I'm not sure in what context they chose it but it's a nice take with the crunchy, low tonal rhythm section and lilting vocals. There were a lot of references to various bands covering this song but The Ventures version is one of my favorites.
@seansennstrom I don't think that it's possible to say that one is better than the other. As is the nature of a folk song, each succesive interpretation adds to the song. The Animals version is a completely different interpretation than that of Frijid Pink. I say that the are both very good interpretations.
I actually heard on NPR recently (in an interview with a fellow who just wrote a book about the origins of the song... there was actually a recording of a woman earlier than Clarence Ashley singing.. and its evolution through rock history) and while they were building some new big something in New Orleans recently, they unearthed, and this of course is in an old part of town, a sign of The Rising Sun Hotel and also found things like pots of old makeup. Pretty interesting!
@chimpbottle Whoever is of that opinion is quite wrong; the song is a piece of folk music that was heard by Eric Burden at a club in Newcastle. It is a mystery as to who wrote the song; much like many other folk pieces. The song is incredable, though; and I take a bow to whoever came up with it.
Lots of people consider the song written by Alan Price (of the Animals). any versions older then that is just a tottally different tune. Listen to Lead Belly's. The lyrics were not the Animals but most of the tune was
@robot4me Everyone bashes Muse version, I mean sure its not very strong but its just one take on this classic. Its been covered so many times and each one is different.
@MikeIvensky What do you mean Dylan wrote it? You mean the words? Certainly not the music. Besides, I've never seen Dylan credited to this song. it's an old old old song done by countless people.
@greatestxgift The guitar riff was created by Hilton Valentine of the Animals which makes their version unique from the original folk background of the song. Hilton Valentine is in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because of it. Most of the covers of the song copy the Animals/Hilton Valentine version. Sadly, he makes no royalties from it because of how record companies and Alan Price screwed over the rest of the band members by getting the rights to their songs behind the rest of the band's backs.
@greatestxgift Deep breath, big guy. We'll get through this. Together. I still think The Animals shaped the song to the familiar tune we know today more than any other musician/group lol.
Life has been good for the Durans.
Wow! Great version of a classic song. Love the Duran spin on it. Simon's vocal is awesome.
Go John! Great Dom!! And Simon what else can I say but amazing. And wonderful Roger and Nick!

@robot4me Everyone bashes Muse version, I mean sure its not very strong but its just one take on this classic. Its been covered so many times and each one is different.
very nice
The Guitar Riff/chords at 2:48 - 2:50 reminds me of a Stones song BUT can't quite remember the title.
Simon LeBon the great

@arflar ya but the animals made it sound badass
@greatestxgift
Deep breath, big guy. We'll get through this. Together.

"There is a house in New Orleans. They call the Rising Sun."
Kinda ironic that they did this song in New Orleans. LOL!
@shockinyou2 : thanks for the info =)
not a fan but this is actually pretty good
simon is gawjus
The Animals
@greatestxgift
Talking about the song "House of the Rising Sun" lol
@greatestxgift
Nah, I've listened to Bob Dylan's version. Didn't sound very much like what The Animals did at all.
nd it was from the point of veiw a female. The animals did it from the males point of veiw. Animals is the better know one
no one really knows who wrote this song
666 likes...creepy.
That was cute,,,but NOT as cute as John Taylor!!@
