Well done! You tackled my identical project I have in planning stage! Yours looks great and congratulations on producing an easy to follow project video! The quick shifter is also on my list so I eagerly await your help there!
I really like doing such DIY stuff on my bikes. But due to restrictions of staying in an apartment and not having a private covered garage where I can set these things up, I often dispose the ideas of working on something similar. Looking at your video I feel like moving into a house next to your and work with you 😄😄😄 Great video and lovely explanation. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
*Correction. Sport mode is full power and traction control mode 1. A lot of people keep saying it’s everything off like you just did, but if you check the owners manual there’s a table showing the flow chart of the settings. The only way to get traction control all the way off is through the Rider settings. Great video btw! 💪

I wish this was available as a kit for those of us who don't have such a large collection of parts or fabrication capabilities. Wouldn't new bars also do the same thing?
If you could find a different rise bars it would definitely do the trick. However there’s not a lot of options to get just what you want. I scoured a lot of parts numbers and really couldn’t find anything that would do the trick. Yeah I also couldn’t find a kit for this either. Maybe one day I’ll put a kit together! If I get enough feedback I might just do that.
I keep coming back to this video - it's the best one on risers for the 2020 Z900. If one were to not need the ability to swing back towards the rider, just up, then would it make sense that the OEM top mount work? You would just need to fabricate a flat bracket to connect the OEM mount in its new position, so it aligns and clams to the other bracket (for teh turn signals. right?
Allo Allo From South Africa I just got my Z900 a few days ago, and I need to do the riser mod. I will order from ROX, but I just need to know the correct "height" inch or cm, of the riser, so as to accomodate the available cable slack. Regards, Gerrit de la Rey
Excuse my ignorance, I just got this bike and was thinking the same thing about the riding position. Wouldn’t it be easier to get some new bars that come up higher? You could install them and everything else would bolt back up the same right?
Great video and thanks for sharing. You explain everything you do so well. I have exactly the same need for a comfortable riding position. After the mod your arms look more relaxed less stretched.
Nice moon boot, Kawasaki call the OEM screen a "meter cover" not a windscreen. I do like the look of that Puig screen please let us know what it is like once you can ride again. Good job on the risers and bracket for the instruments.
I've got the same windscreen. Not going to sugarcoat it and say that it turns the Z900 into a Goldwing or anything, but it certainly makes at difference at 70 mph and up. IMO you do get slightly more wind bufferting around your helmet, but if you're using earplugs then it's pretty much a none-issue.
@@osggarage5575 I sat on a MT 09 @ an independent bike shop here in the ft lauderdale area and it had a pair of bars with a 4" rise as they curved back. This on top of an approximate 4" spacer! I'm not a yami guy, just Suzuki and Kawi, so I'm not sure if those were stock, as the MT 9s & 10s are upright riders. Maybe another rider knows about a possible bar swap because of availability.
With the windscreen on it’s really not so bad. You still get a bit of wind around your helmet but it really keeps it off of your midsection. Makes it really easy to put miles on this bike with the more upright riding position. Next we need to get a more comfortable seat!
Great video, good job, I had the same problem with my GSX S750, I installed the risers, the Puig touring windshield plus a clip on from Amazon ($35) . For the break fluid cable, I pushed the whole thing towards inside by 2’’ , the break fluid container and mirror are one piece on mine, just moved the whole thing. Also I had to re route the throttle cable. I have the videos on my channel.
It’s not bad. Keeps the wind off of your core, but it still hits you around the helmet. For now it will be ok. But I will keep playing with other options. I will put up a vid soon about it.
Hi! Really good video, what a dedication. But I ask you something, I have the 2020 model, and order from EEUU to Uruguay the same puig windshield, how about the wind with the puig? Is a brake wind enough or still needs more height? Thank you.
Nicolas, it does keep the wind off of your body pretty good. But it really depends on your height. Im 5"7" ....if you are taller it might not work as well.
@@osggarage5575 thank you, I'm 6', almost, so I might hide a little on the shield I think if I curve a little, will see, thank you for the answer, good luck with this Achille problem. Bye
I’ve just got a low km used 2019 model - returning to riding and this is a bike I can grow with again - really happy with it - I’ve got long arms and the bar position is perfect (for a change - not cramped up) . Adjusting the foot pegs with aftermarket and clutch shifter was a worthwhile mod as well to consider. Looking out to hear your views on the windscreen as That’s something I want to do as well. Thanks for the vid and all the best for a quick recovery.
Thanks Steve! Well im recovered and can say that the windscreen is a big help. It takes enough of the wind off of your body to make longer rides comfortable. I hear you about getting the footpegs adjusted. The brake especially....totally will be changing the position of it in a video coming soon.
I just subscribed right after you said you're a Northern California rider. Looking forward to seeing your bike videos. By the way have you ridden hwy 49? I have 3 herniated discs so your video really interested me.
Man Im on this same project right now how about you make another bracket like the one you made for your self to hold the tft display and sell it to me how can I contact you?
Yes, I’ve put a few miles on it now and its really pretty good. You still get a bit of wind on your helmet but you do not get the blast on your midsection. Makes it comfortable to put miles on with the more upright riding position.
Loved the solving of the logistical problems of raising the handlebar! Fabricate what you need and/or adapt other on-hand parts. I sat on a new Z900 at a dealership. The deal breaker for me was the position of the footpegs. Too high and tight for an old guy like me. Loved the bike otherwise. Is there any significant adjustability in the foot pegs to get a more upright position or are there after-market brackets made for this bike that allow the lowering of the foot pegs + move them forward? Thanks...

Hello! I'm looking to do the identical on my 2017 version. Do you think the cable lengths will be the same on the older model? EDIT: Turns out they are, you have a lot of room if you take the fairing off and find the black clip near the front of the bike. No problem with these 2" risers.
glad you posted this, great video. I have the same windscreen on the same bike. I ordered a set of risers, but they are only about 7/8 thick. We shall see if that's enough, as I have a big trip coming up in June. Ultimately, I think I would have prefered your 2'' setup. fingers crossed.
I think this one will work OK for now. I still haven't been able to ride the bike since I ruptured my Achilles a few weeks ago. Once I can get on and check out how it works I might try a bigger one. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't look that bad if it was a little larger. But I will probably have to make the screen from scratch rather than purchase one.

interesting.concept. The mounting for the TFT display is based off of the top clamp. So if you preserve that it could work.

Why didn't you replace the handlebar with one in Versys 650? It could have solved the problem and quick and easier
