Man, it’s crazy how weak the cannons and gate are for how much effort it takes to use them. This truly is a quest that was not designed to be accomplished solo (aside from really good bowgun play), which is rough considering how many quests in the series can be solo’d even when it comes down to the last minute.
Then again, only 15 minutes to repel is a very tight window of time compared to later appearances. Now I’m curious what it was like in Freedom, since that game only has local multiplayer and the Town is available offline.
it was honestly super disappointing. Fatalis isnt so much of a threat, as much as his time limit is.

Actually, there is a way to enter to the city as it originaly was, there's fan servers, but they only work with the japanese version of mh1 or monster hunter G if my memory don't fail. I have no much time now, but when i can, i will share you some tutorials and how i know this

I'm sure you've been made aware of this by now, but there's working servers for MH1, and MH1G now
Couldn't tell you how to get em running, emulation is too much of a pain for my blood, but there's a whole discord server for old school MH. Pretty sure they just got DOS working online with an english translation as well

Finally, not sure how hard it is, but i thoufht i should mention to you that there are actually working online servers for MH1 that fans have gotten up and running. Im just not sure how much of a hassle it is to accomplish vs the stuff youve already done so far.

Ahhh, so this is what you meant by "We took a detour" lol Journeyed through the nine circles of hell looking for charms and didn't even succeed. I like how the game lets you give yourself Za Warudo but it doesn't have a way to just give yourself the charms directly into your inventory.
I know that the playthrough is over now and we're just watching the final edits after the fact but it would have been cool if you done the steps to get you into the actual town. Not that I know how to do it but I've seen people doing MH1 online hunts as they were meant to in 2023 so I know it's possible, and the internet told you how to walk through the void, I'm sure you could have found the steps. But it might have required you to join a private server or something and who knows how that would go. Either way, this was a very enjoyable experience. Might I suggest sticking with the portable versions of any upcoming MH games you'll be playing, just so you can get the full experience built in and don't have to bust out the rift walking skills again.
