I have a 12 year vw golf - 66k miles. Had it for 6.5 years and paid £7500. My family owned it since brand new. Only lost £3000 in value for 6.5 years - spent £1500 on repairs over the years. Want to keep for a long time. Live in the UK. Amazed by the mileage cars go for in the US 😊 Sue
I'm in the UK too. I think cars last a lot longer in some parts of the US because salts are not sprayed on the roads in winter, whereas you cannot avoid it over here.
I have a 05 Honda accord a d its more reliable then the new cars some of my friends a d co workers have I get basically 30 mpg it’s a 40$ fill up and it lasts me 2 weeks 🤷🏾♂️
A lot of these older cars, even with lower miles, will need maintenance and some parts replaced due to age and wear. That goes for Hondas and Toyotas even. Always go in prepared to spend more than you have to because that cheap 1500 price tag may not be the end of it...unless you get super lucky and find a car that was babied and taken care of religiously by its last owner.
Thats why ideally you want full service history and receipts for things that have been repaired, quite common to get a car with a cambelt due for change so that's very easy to factor in. Quite common to get a car with limited clutch left too.

People will find any excuse to not own a car that is brand new. I own two Mercedes both more than 20 years old. Love them.

Very true. Sometimes time and elements can be worse on a car than mileage!
