Business isn’t just about immediate success, it’s also about playing the long-game.
Zelda Skyward Sword had a better polished story, more interesting game mechanics, and a more balanced “open world” than Breath of the Wild, but Breath of the Wild further developed the enemy design from Skyward Sword, where Link has to be smart and sneaky to capitalize on the enemies being cute but tribe-like and not very developed mentally. Skyward Sword motion controls were ahead of their time, but the art style and motion controls got polished with the Switch remake.
Nintendo (at least until now) seems to take the long-game in focusing on innovation and fine-tuning later as they have more resources.
Also, yeah they were really rude to Shigeru Miyamoto. He’s a great marketer who seems to take a real interest in the series not getting completely sabotaged, and it’s a shame that just trying to do your job well gets you this.
Eye Toy? You mean that PS2 camera? 😅
Sony really did try to innovate back then, at least in a different way than they do now... I thought it was a pretty neat thing.
You'd never think he was on a cruise ship!
I’m not anymore. I was when this video was made. Took UA-cam 3 days to approve it.
For Pokémon games, I personally combine the sales of the 2 versions together to count it as one "game" in terms of sales data
I am a nintendo employee and have a secret
Everytime developers do something new with zelda
Like open world for botw and zelda as a main character .... the hero in the intro scene is known on a cliff which you all missed 😂
Just a secret ❤ nothing else :) or is it . Maybe maybe maybe
Itoi is not pronounced "eye-toy" rather "E-toy"
6:22 I am ready for this game on July
This is a really interesting interview. I really like hearing it broken down.
Yeah the one line made all the headlines but the full convo provided context.
“Itoi’s” pronounced “ee-TOY”.
I hope MP4 breaks numbers... I love this series. Second only to Zelda
Same, but we need to be realistic. It's not going to break 3m.
@@Grant-wy4uu Dread broke 3 million and this is a 3D game with more of a marketing build up. I think it'll break 3 million easy.
@madcorndog it took dread a while to get there. Prime 4 isnt gonna break any records. Prime remastered only barely crossed 1m.
@@Grant-wy4uu the most recent sales figures for prime remastered are over a year old. It will break a record. It will be the best selling Metroid game.
Well my thought on this is this…….being profitable and being a huge success are to different things. And rapport in this line of business is crucial. Demos or a NSO mini game could go a long way. Multiple birds with one stone.
There’s an entire community or communities that have dedicated themselves to this. Contact them
"eat'toy", not "eye-toy" (Itoi Shigesato)
Small correction: Monolith didn't work on any Pokémon game.
But yeah, they do provide support on many games: Pikmin, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, even Smash (Brawl only) and possibly the new Mario & Luigi...
im pretty sure Itoi is pronounced as E-toy, and NOT I-toy
in japanese the vowels "a-i-u-e-o" are pronounced "ah-ee-ooh-eh-oh". also i wish more companies have that kind of mindset. cause that's MUCH more sustainable
I’ve heard Mario Kart 9 is going to end up being the most expensive game Nintendo has ever produced… I can not WAIT to see what that looks like!
Hopefully VR
@@johnmcenroe3000 I seriously hope not. I can’t do VR more than 5 minutes before getting sick. It would limit their consumer base by the millions and would go directly against the business model Miyamoto just talked about in the interview lol
@@RonnyLive19881 they can offer the option why not? Yes it’s not like implement gyro controls but somehow I hate the fact that most software houses don’t give us all range of options
Pokemon is a big seller too. 24 and 26 mil are close enough to count. Especially since theyre still being sold
Hi Nintendo Prime. I hope your enjoying your vacation.
What a superficial definition of success
Would someone please explain this to EA
Wow so HUGE and SHOCKING 🙄
Dude nintendo will get sells 😂
Try the all new iToy
its i-to-i not i toy btw
E-Toy not Eye-Toy
Eye toy
Well, if they can make animal crossing a better farming sim, adding comfy rpg elements to it, and more open world, I'm gonna buy it. For now it's just a cute game with crafting
Buy it anyway. It’s still really good
Thanks for the video!
If Nintendo games don't constantly hit 30 million+ copies, you're gonna slowly see the repercussions over time, this goes in tangent with new hardware, new hardware means that they can do more, which is great but the budgets will go up, Nintendo does not know what its truly like to spend 300-500 million on game development but they'll get there.
Then when games don't start selling like they want with increased development costs, they'll either bury the i.p. or port it to other eco systems to get the return on the development cost.
Console exclusivity doesn't mean as much as it use to and Nintendo are still trying to hold out.
Yeah the only game touching that kind of budget at Nintendo is Zelda.
Everything else is being made for 50m or less. More powerful hardware isn’t going to jump those costs 1000%.
Nintendo doesn’t do what the other companies do. Outside of retro studios they don’t do these temporary contract hires. That’s what leads to most of the inflated budgets.
@NintyPrime Game development costs are only going up, Nintendo is gonna realize this when they start making games for the new system and see budgets go up, and they'll slowly creep up more and more.
You might not see the damage it does with this next system but whatever is after the Switch 2, Nintendo are gonna realize how its not sustainable.
Do you even understand why the budgets are overinflated on the industry? What games does Nintendo make that to you, looks like a future 300m budget game?
The reason Nintendo isn’t falling into that trap is because they make AA games and sell them at a AAA price point and people don’t mind paying it because the quality of the experience remains high.
Yes dev costs rise and Nintendo said as much and they noted their counter is… make more AA games.
They have hired 400 devs over the last year.
To put this in perpetrate, Activision hired 400 temporary devs in the last 6 months to finish call of duty.
western development studios are doing things in unsustainable ways. Nintendo retains their talent, doesn’t need to do massive temporary hires, and budgets accordingly with their corporate people not taking in shit loads of money like the corporate people do elsewhere. They are paid well… Nintendo’s top
Exec makes less than 3m dollars USD.
Just do you fundamentally understand how different Nintendo is. Their budgets will rise but not like everyone else did.
@NintyPrime Their budgets will keep rising and when they eventually get too high, they'll start porting games to other platforms, exclusivity is a dying market in gaming.
All companies will eventually put games on any device that has a screen or can be put onto a screen
Nintendo are fighting an uphill battle that they will eventually lose, don't be surprised when you see their games on PC and other systems in 5-10 years
Which is good because the console fanboy mind set is nothing but harmful to the industry and ya'll get mocked constantly for worshipping a piece of plastic from a corporation that doesn't even know you exist or care about you.
Look I am all for every game being everywhere. It's very pro consumer.
But Nintendo has shown they have no reason for it. Their exclusive IP just drove record numbers at the movie theatre (and that was POST covid, when many movies have struggled), they just had their fitst console ever move over 1 billion in software and counting, 4 new 30m+ sellers exclusively, and Nintendo is on the cusp of having their best selling console ever in terms of unit sales... meanwhile the last 6 years have been the highest grossing, most profitable years in Nintendo's 100+ year company history.
You can look around the rest of the industry and talk about how exclusivity is dying (sony is bringing their stuff to PC, third parties are done making things exclusive, Xbox is slowly going third party), but all of those companies fell into the same trap. Hollywood blockbuster level budgets chasing hyper realism. Notice what companies are rolling in the profits right now?
First: Minecraft's studio. Then you have Epic with Fortnite (a non-realistic graphic style), Roblox... and then you have the couple outliers that can truly justify the high end budget in Call of Duty and GTA.
Then you have Nintendo. Mosying along, making more money than ever, with their most "realistic games" selling the worst (Bayonetta 3, etc) compared to a side scrolling Mario that just topped 10m last year.
Exclusives are dying because the budgets rose so fast chasing the same damn thing that isn't impressing people enough to make them buy. They are now more interested gameplay.
Elden Ring is probably one of those exceptions as well, though Elden Ring notably didn't chase the most bleeding edge visuals, they settled well below that, while using the same art style. Keeping a solid budget in mind and not overspending.
And they dominated because the gameplay is so good.
Exclusives aren't dying for Nintendo, they are thriving. They are selling better than ever. This isn't really about console wars (and if you knew anything at all about me, it should be how much I DESPISE console warring), it's just about the facts of the video game business.
Nintendo's exclusive strategy is working, contrary to the rest of the industry. Almost as if the path the rest of the industry began heavily driving towards 15 years ago that Nintendo didn't chase, ended up not being a good long term strategy for company health.
Come on does nobody else see it. I love him but Miyamoto is off his rocker. New Horizens and Mario Kart 8 are on the top 15 and top 10 best selling games all time. 30 million is a mark something Xbox and Playstation have never done even with a 3rd party game. They could never sell another 30 million title and be just fine. Also 30 million titles are predominantly titles that are not very story driven and very formula driven like Mario kart, wii sports, smash, or wii fit.
Nintendo isn’t PlayStation or Xbox. Unlike those two Nintendo relies exclusively on their video game ip.
And Nintendo does typically have a 30m seller every 3 to 5 years dating back decades.
I know ur not gonna like this but Minecraft has outsold everything and a big reason for that is because Microsoft has put a lot of money into it…. And Sony almost every generation other than the switch has consistently outsold Nintendo in terms of console and first party software….
@@NintyPrime thats not true. How many 30 million sellers were on Wii U? Also the wii had a few 30 million sellers but other than that only mario and duck hunt. So it is an unrealistic expectation. The switch 2 probly wint sell 150 million consoles so it will be harder to hit 30 million. Mario kart 9 will probly but it is not easy
@@jameswalterthethirdMinecraft is an outlier. Greatest selling game ever. Take a look no other IP from sony or xbox sells 30 mil on one console. Not Halo not God of War not spiderman. Even COD doesn't sell 30 mil on one console. The 30 mil mark he is suggesting is not realistic. Yeah obviously Sony has been outsellling Nintendo in consoles for years and it would not surprise me if they return to that trend next generation.
@@pdubbs88 I mean they sell like 3 different cods every console generation that each sell like 20 mil…. That seems likes a more profitable plan to me
shocked!
I can tell Nintendo a secret on how to get more of those 30mil plus sellers…. Release ur games on pc… you’ll get like 3 more in a few days
Nintendo is a experience, they keep the quality within their very own ecosystem... they don't need to cross-port for greed alone, as long as the quality of their games remains high, plus they have a lot of ips to take advantage of
@@froilanrivero2826 nothing you said prevents them from porting their games and losing quality….
👍👍👍😁😁
