Lets give it up for MS.. They went from that trash dpad on the 360 to a semi usable dpad on the one to that work of art that is on the series controller.
This video feels like an experience. Love the editing, voiceover, and choice of music. I also wanted to say; I have owned an Xbox Core controller for about 2 years, and I haven't played fighting games for very long, but when I do, I used analogue stick (Zangief player). I'm trying to transition away from that, but the D-Pad felt really weird and a little uncomfortable after a while. I bought a DualShock 4 to use for fighting games, but it just feels a lot smaller and harder for me to handle. Is it a case of getting used to it either way? And is the DualShock 4 outclassed nowadays?
You just gotta get used to it (kinda late reply, but). I used to use a DS3 then transitioned to the Xbox Series controller, I also found the dpad REALLY weird at first because it has zero mushiness. It just clicks. I found it's an amazing dpad and got used to it when I started to use it by parking my thumb in the middle and rocking the pad to do my inputs. On the DualShock dpads you basically had to slide your finger to do quick inputs but on the Series, you're better off parking your thumb imo
@@JohnDoeWasntTaken I can't believe this was as recent as 8 months ago. I did get used to the d-pad on the Xbox controller, and I love it. Charge characters are a little wearing to play, but I still far prefer it to arcade stick or DS4.
its because your keyboard has a low key rollover. so it cant do many simultaneous inputs at once. you have to buy a more expensive keyboard that doesnt have this issue@@slothywun
finally a good video on controllers! how would you rate the 8bitdo Dpad in comparison to the others? i have wired c model here and it seems decent to me, about on par with ps4 controller propably, but i am searching for basically the ultimate xbox style pc pad thats great for modern games and for emulation alike.
The Xbox series s controller is a hell of a fighter controller. But if you play platform fighters like me as well the triggers and lbrb buttons wear out pretty easily
Logitech F310 isn't bad and it's need to be considered for a budget pad. It's quite durable and accurate for fighting game. one issue is its dpad is made of plastic not a rubber so if you are not used and play for long hours its dpad and grip design feels a bit rough for your sweaty thumb and palm grip.
I wish logitech still made their floating dpad like on the cordless rumble pad 2. I bought the last new ones on ebay. It is accurate and doesn't destroy your thumb.
I've just bought pro 2 (Xbox version) for MK11. D-pad is good, but needs more testing. XYAB are very good, clicky, tactile. But the best thing are L2/R2, they are just instant. I have xbox 1 gamepad and they are very slow (good for racing), but very annoying for fighting games.
After searching for a good and knowledgeable video on fighting game pads and having my time massively wasted by junk like NihongoGamer's videos, this was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for doing this service to fighting games, you're a blessing.
I'm on pc and I am an old dude so my affinity is to arcade sticks - because it's what i grew up with - however, the only pad I could ever play with is the madcatz fightpad pro. I even ordered 2 new ones for when this one breaks lol
Series dpad is what I've been using for fighters and it honestly feels pretty good for motions. You could always buy one and if you don't like it return it back to the store
Maybe I have huge thumbs...but I've always been able to press 1 to 4 of the face buttons with accuracy. So I don't need to lift my fingers for particular ABXY combinations, or I do quick slides for sequences.
How are the sticks on the 8bitdo pro 2? I play platform fighters and traditional ones so id like a controller that has a good dpad and sticks so its good for both.
Loved the video! I think having an overall best of all of them - at the end would have bern great! I know you started with a good all rounder, but pick your best, if you had to pick one would have been really nice to know about! Aside from that, I really enjoyed watching the entire video! I must say, one of the few channels where I don’t skip around!!! Great work as usual!
How are the triggers on the Xbox controller? I'm looking to upgrade from my Dualshock 3, and my main complaint is the triggers. Their position and orientation make it hard for me to get the explosive movements I need for FGs. I kinda wish i just had the same controller but with a second set of shoulder buttons in place of triggers.
Does the wired version of the 8bitdo pro 2 have input latency and dpad quality similar to the wireless version? I’m playing street fighter 6, and smash melee on pc, so I need a reliable controller. It’s cheaper so that’s the one I can afford lol.
The Flydigi Apex 2 properly configured with PC software reWASD ends up being the best for fighters, and probably anything that doesn't require analog triggers. All of the extra buttons can be programmed as unique buttons! Plus, reWASD lets you disable native buttons, which can be super useful.
I’m your fans now ! I have lot arcade stick Japanese Korean stick even hit box to play street fighter kof tekken no problem , but now I playing morta kombat ps5 version will no idea with that ,when I switch to ps5 controller that was terrible even I play with the pc version with Xbox x controller no problem ,consider to buy Wolverine ps5 may I asking that similar xbox x?
I play mortal kombat x and the dpad on the series x sucks. You have to do a lot of insta airs in that game and it makes it so hard to do with that lifted dpad
I'm trying to find a controller that has 6 face buttons or buttons that are identical to the face buttons as are the shoulder buttons while also having a good dpad but I'm having trouble. I thought maybe the Hori Commander Octa was my answer but the dpad on that isn't that good. I just really wish I could find a 6 button with a good dpad. I'd get the Razer Raion but they don't sell it in the states
6:06 He talked about the Betop Thorn Shadow, definitely a great Sega-style controller with the 6 face buttons like the Saturn and Genesis 6-button pad. I personally have really liked the Retrobit reissue of the Genesis 6-button pad (called the 8-button fightstick) which is licensed by Sega. Haven't tried out the Betop but it looks even better, might buy one myself.
I would say dualshock 4 is the best since it has no major flaws. xbox series has the dpad in the uncomfortable, narrow center left position. 8bit playstation style isn't quite as tactile as DS4, and also has an uncomfortable hard plastic feel to the grip. I think hitbox is the one true solution to the controller problem.
@@theelusivememe1772 which dualshock? I've heard dualshock 5 is inferior to DS4. I also liked the series X controller but wished it was placed where the left analog stick is, I have big hands so the xbox dpad position is not ergonomic for me

The face buttons are to hard, the d pad is ok if its not the cross one but any way it's in a really shity position for the tumb and the triggers have a really long actuation point same for the playstation but playstation is a bit shorter. Happy now fuck off.
@@FrameCounting If you’re playing 2D fighters that don’t have lenient controls, it’s horrid. The d-dap is stiff and uncomfortable for rotational based movements.
@@FrameCounting for fighting games like SF6 it's really bad for down right combos because of how awkward the motion is and using it for a long time the d-pad is too far to the right which is the cause of the awkward motion from how much you have to extend your thumb.
