Im with Andy, this needs a lot more Coffee. Cheers
Hey Brad! Great to hear from you buddy! This is Todd, and I will.let Andy also answer but that was his initial critique and I came to agree with him. It tasted to close to a really nice base stout. Needed more coffee. Cheers buddy and hope all is well.
This year’s coffee was more boozy than year’s past.. however when this coffee warms up I loved how the coffee lingers on the palate IMO.. need to see how this holds up in a couple months
We always drink our BA stouts room/cellar temp and still thought this lacked coffee flavor. Not horrible but wanted more coffee.
Another banger in the books 📚
Cheers!
If I see this one, I'll try it for sure. Great review! Cheers guys and Rock on!🤘
Todd loved it, I'm on the fence, but wanting more coffee...you may just be the tie breaker, Shane! You'll have to let us know what you think when you try it! Rock On!
As a coffee lover, I am really looking forward to this one. I do like breweries that lean towards subtlety. Too many tend to OVER DO things these days. I have a 2019 BCS with Coffee, Cassia Bark, and Orange Peel. Should be ripe. Great review. CHEERS ! Hey Andy, if you like Coffee Stouts look for REVE from Parish Brewing. Get it fresh. It does NOT age.
Hey Gregory, I'll definitely be on the look-out for the REVE! I love coffee stouts too, and if you like subtlety, then this may do the trick for you. I think for me it was just too subtle. The traditional roasty notes that come from stouts always carry a some subtle coffee notes anyway so I was hoping to really get more out of this. Todd, on the other hand, really loved it, so who knows. That's the fun of reviewing these. I did love the Special #4 BCS in 2020 and really loved the 2019 as well. Both of them had some additional adjuncts to help carry them, with the Cassia Bark and Orange Peel and then the #4 had maple syrup as well, so maybe that was what was missing this year... it just needed a little help :) You'll have to report back and let us know your thoughts! Cheers, Gregory!
@@2TEN90 The coffee in the REVE was really good. I aged one for a year and it was not as good. Hope we see it again. KBS Expresso is another good coffee stout.
@@StudioGREGORIO The Expresso is great too. I think there are other bigger breweries doing some great barrel aged work on a national level that don't get nearly enough attention, mainly to the hype around BCS's Black Friday release. We'll be doing more over the next few months to spotlight them. We're also thinking of doing a 10 year vertical with some older coffee BCS releases and compare them to this years offering which should be interesting. Fun stuff!
idk, I opened one of mine on Saturday and thought it was world class. Way ahead of the base (which is thin this year so it makes sense that this one is too) and ahead of Sir Isaac. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews online so maybe there's some batch variations?
Hey Michael that is interesting as we just wanted way more coffee in ours. But we also thought thr base was very viscous so maybe it's bottle to bottle. Did you try thr Barleywine?
@@2TEN90 Not yet, possibly for Christmas
Great review guys. I recently cracked open a 2016 BCS coffee stout at a bottle share, and it held up pretty well. A bit disappointed that the 2022 coffee variant wasn't in your face. Will probably grab it anyway. But thanks for the heads up.
Appreciate that, Dave and Happy Thanksgiving to you! Yeah, we definitely wanted a bit more coffee on this one, but I will say, when we cracked another one for our live stream the other night, the coffee notes were a bit more prominent, so who knows, maybe this will be a winner for you. You'll have to comment back and let us know...we'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Cheers, Dave! ~A
We like um Thick , we like um Chunky ! I am really excited about this one . I may need to network with you all a little to get one . Time will tell . We typically do not see a lot of the releases around here . Nice review fellas , cheers 🥃🥃
Haha... you know you where to find us! Cheers!
So these should not be had coming out of the fridge?
Let it sit room temperature?
Yes, let these come to room tempos of about 60 degrees before drinking. All the aromas and flavors will pop. If you drink them cold, all those aromas and flavors will be muted. Cheers!
Hope to sample one of these soon, cheers!
Stay tuned for Sunday Mike!😁
LOL, I bet I would like that one. It appeared that this was not the first review of the night.
Ha! Glad you enjoyed it because this actually was the very first review of the night. Stay tuned, you may like the next two BCS reviews even more LOL :). Rock On, Jimmy ~A
