I just had a 2017 basic edition. Doooooode. It kicked my ass. I was knocked out! I didn’t even hear the wife call me on the phone nor I did I hear her come home. It was like drinking a 5th of bourbon straight.

Great review. Just curious do you drink it chilled or warm?
We like our close to room temp, around 60 degrees. Some will go higher, and some as low as 50. We like it closer to 60 to really enjoy the aromatics and let the beer open up. Any luck scoring some this year, Matt? Cheers, and Happy Holidays to you!

The Eagle Rare is fantastic, but at that price and with limited availability you can't go wrong with the base this year. It just feels like a slightly older and more refined version than base releases of the past. Cheers!

We always drink out barrel-aged beers at cellar temp which is around 60-65. Cheers!

Kinda miss the hunt of the old days. We would often the luck up with obscure hippie grocery stores in the area. Scored a case of Regal Rye one year. Unfortunately, this stuff is on shelves for months nowadays. Just lost the magic... Saddens me.
We were actually talking about that the other day. While we still look forward to it each day, the excitement of the Black Friday release is gone. I think anticipation for the variants is what keeps the spark from going out. A year like this should help...stellar year! Cheers!

Honestly, it was outstanding. I think the base was so good this year it hurt the Eagle Rare a bit because some of those traditional notes found in longer-aged stouts also came through on the base. Where the Eagle Rare really shines is in the barrel influence. Whiskey drinkers will love this...which we are, so it's a winner in our book. These are initial reactions, and honestly, as soon as we got done filming, we both said this is gonna continue to get better with each sip and also to age. Great pour IMO! ~A

It was! I'll say it all year... a bourbon drinkers stout. Tons of barrel influence and all the goodness of the base enhanced. Pricey but damn good...and it's only going to get better with age. Cheers ~A
I was pleasantly surprised to just pick up one of these after deciding to chill by the river rather than chase beer today. Out in Oregon we typically don't get much. I opened a BCS base tonight and it's a 14.1, didn't you get the a higher something like 14.6 base? Mine is just a little on the cloying side. I could see the extra abv balancing out things better. As of right now the 14.1 base doesn't hold up to last years base. The difference very could well be getting the low abv this year. It's a special time of year and I always appreciate your BCS videoes this time of year. Cheers
We did get the 14.6, which really has us intrigued now. Based on your review, we'd love to find a 14.1 and compare it. It was definitely heavier on the chocolate side this year, but we felt it also had a bit more barrel presence than in years past as well. Thanks for sharing, and hopefully, we can score one! I hope you can find it... BCS is so hit and miss state to state, so you never know. I will say, we really enjoyed this one. Whiskey drinkers will love this pour! Cheers!
