    I really like DC multiverse figures for this main reason. You are getting what you pay for. Usually every figure has a new sculpt or a main body for a specific character. That and female figures have had equally good articulation since the line started. And it’s all for the reasonable price of 20-23 dollars

    Painting web lines shouldn’t be an issue or considered a “deluxe” feature/treatment. If one is going to make a Spider-Man then it is standard to add his web lines or else it isn’t Spider-Man. You can’t make a captain America figure and say we didn’t add the star on his chest and A on his head because deco is expensive. In order to represent the character properly you must include his most basic prominent features.
    Cap isn’t cap without his star
    Spidey isn’t spidey without his webs
    And so on.
    A full basic paint job is required and expected of every character one chooses to make.
    When you start adding air brush shading or washes or cell shading or even the fancy face scan painting they do on MCU figures those things could be considered a “deluxe” treatment.
    Whether or not they make a Spider-Man with sculpted webs, recessed webs or plain body painted webs…. Spider-Man must have all his webs prominently painted to separate the webs from the sculpt itself.

      "Weather or not they make a Spider-Man with sculpted webs, recessed webs or plain body painted webs…. Spider-Man must have all his webs prominently painted to separate the webs from the sculpt itself."
      I disagree. The natural lining of the sculpts, whether raised or recessed, can sometimes make it so that the shadows give off adequate representation of the web lining. I don't always want/like thick painted webs as it can look very cartoony AND be poorly applied. On top of that, it's a different aesthetic that does a good job at being a comic-accurate representation of Spidey in movement, when you wouldn't be able to distinguish the lines clearly due to motion blur, and I dig that.
      In your comparison you used Captain America's A symbol as an analogy but I think you'd compare that to Spidey's web logo to be a suitable comparison. Spidey's web lining is more comparable to Cap's "feathered" texturing on the more classic versions of his costume, which have also been represented in different ways across different figures.

    • @Poundz978
      @Poundz978  Рік тому +3

      @@CouchCit only recessed lines can give the illusion of a shadow but even then it’s not enough … a wash isn’t clean enough (its possible tho) painting in the sculpt would look best.
      When I was comparing spidey to cap.. i was comparing “what’s part of the costume” cap will look fine without the feathered sculpt as long as you have his most noticeable features painted the A and star…. Same with spidey..
      Hypothetically, If captain America was always shown (in comics) with featherd texture that also had a tad of color on top that separated it from the non texture part… then it would have to be painted just like web lines
      Sculpted Web lines
      And sculpted feathered texture don’t compare equally because one of them (webs) has another element -black web lines
      In other words, you can have a sculpted cap without having to paint on top because that’s how his design naturally is
      But you cannot sculpt web lines and not paint them black … it’s part of the design

    The Black Widow is a good point in terms of tooling/price. A standardly priced figure over here,to my eye it’s a retooled Deadly Origins torso with butterfly so the reuse is still there,with an element of upgrade. The 2pks are a good example too I think. One figure is brand new with loads of detail,while the other is a reissue that doesn’t match up. It all comes down to profit though,doesn’t it? You can’t offer a great figure with all the elements people want,but also raise your profit margin by what was it? 50%?

    ML aren’t painted. They’re more like printed thermo film that’s applied. Think of water slide transfer, but applied using heat. That’s why you can see on some parts there’s obvious line on a lot of spider-man that are just cut off or missing. These are mainly applied by factory workers. All they need is to just design the print sheet for the web line properly and apply it properly it’ll be fine, but that’s the main issue. They aren’t willing to spent the time & money to do it properly.

    I want to start by saying that I do not work in the toy industry. But I have spoke in person to a handful of individuals from various toy companies. One of the conversations, on a few occasions, was paint.
    It's not like when we sit at home and paint a figure ourselves. I would highly recommend that everyone get answers from a toy company, about specific details before stating something like Spider-Man doesn't have that much deco. He does in fact have a TON of deco if you're painting individual webbing lines.
    Take into consideration, Spider-Man has white eyes with black outlines. That's already 4 paint "Decos." Each of those decos have an individual price tag from the factory. If a button on a jacket is to be painted, that's an individual deco. But lets say that you're painting 6 buttons, that is 6 individual decos that you're being charged for.
    So when you're talking about paint Decos for Spider-Man's webbing, every individual line is a deco. They don't just look at it like 1 more deco charge for all of the webbing. That webbing is numerous lines, numerous decos, numerous individual costs. The hands have Multiple painted webbing lines on each finger, each with their own independent cost. The cost multiplied across interchangeable hands included.
    And then there's lets say Black Suit Spider-Man, with like 2 eyes, 2 logos, and a white spot on each hand. Even without knowing the specific price, you see the MASSIVE difference in paint deco cost between those 2 figures.
    Regardless if it's only 3 colors used, regardless if the deco is applied by hand painting, using a tool for masking, or applied by a machine, they still charge in individual price per deco. It adds up with certain figures.

    • @Poundz978
      @Poundz978  Рік тому +3

      I appreciate your comment. Its hard to believe each web line is considered 1 deco. Paint costs should be charged per amount of paint or type of special paint (whether gloss, matte, metallic, pearlescent, strips of vinyl like paint ect) used.
      If one is painting 5 buttons (silver?)
      It’s expected one will pay the amount of paint to cover 5 buttons.
      If companies practice your description of how they charge per deco than Spider-Man will always be a problem and too expensive to profit from.

    • @BillyBob-ee6xx
      @BillyBob-ee6xx Рік тому +1

      @@Poundz978 Basically the way you're explaining it, is exactly how it does NOT go. Decos are determined by individual paint applications, opposed to just each color.
      That is very much in tune with what they were trying to explain with the spider-man fingers example in the video.
      I'm sure the quantity of paint used also becomes an additional factor at some point, but it certainly is not the only aspect involved.
      Which is why I urge you to talk to a professional insider about the matter. The way that I explained it, was exactly what I was told.
      Being charged to paint spider-man in this manner wouldn't necessarily make it "too expensive to profit from" but rather, this is the difficulty in how they have to approach balancing multiple figures within an entire wave. Some may have more elaborate paint schemes, while others will not. They can find a way to balance it out.

    I always try to remind people that Dan, Ryan and Dwight are not in charge of price. They are marketing and Design. They don't control the money, Disney and Hasbro execs make the budget for them and then hasbro has to make money for shareholders. Its greed from the higher ups. Look at Diamond select Apocalypse for only $30 or some other Diamond select figures. Then you Marvel Legends Blob for $60. Both are about same size, unique tooling, and more if not the same amount of accessories packed in a Diamond select figure.

  • @kwamintaylor4247
    @kwamintaylor4247 Рік тому +3

    I’m surprised we didn’t highlight Dwight’s key answer to the root of many collectors gripes .
    Dwight “If collectors want black widow articulation to be standard, all the deco, accessories, and detail to be stand.”, you will only get the main characters, that means a higher price point, which means less figures a year, which means only Deadpool’s and wolverines, definitely no doppelgängers”
    Pretty much that is the Mafex business model. (Who makes marvel figures 🤷‍♂️)
    So maybe collectors just aren’t listening to what the legends team has been explaining every year.

    • @Poundz978
      @Poundz978  Рік тому +4

      I only wanted to critique the spider-man questions….. but yes that was a good point from Dwight. Some people would prefer 30 quality figs over 100 mediocre figs and there’s some people who just want every character marvel legends has to offer

    • @kwamintaylor4247
      @kwamintaylor4247 Рік тому +3

      @@Poundz978 I have heard that request "less figures, better quality at a premium price", but we already have that line, Mafex, who already gives collectors Marvel figures with everything at high pricepoint,, limited to only popular characters.
      Hence Dwights point
      ….so still, collectors don’t truly know what they are asking for.

    Random thoughts:
    The dude spent 5 minutes at the end of his interview asking _what do fans want?_ This is the question he wastes their time with? As the interview progressed, I enjoyed them shutting his ass down
    The Marvel side of Hasbro has always been wildly inconsistent with articulation & pricing. Makes me appreciate the consistency of lines like Mattel's WWE or even GI Joe Classified,. When Mattel WWE chose to implement extra hands, EVERYBODY got them. When double jointed elbows were introduced, most if not all the figures got them.
    If they're not going to paint it, I do prefer having recessed webbing. At least, we can fill it in easier than raised webbing.

    Hasbro lies a lot.
    They can give us better figures, they just don't want to.
    Why can't we get a definitive Spidey? Because they need to milk the character as much as they can.
    If they released a definitive one, a lot of people wouldn't need another.
    They always do that:
    We got a nice Symbiote Spidey, but he had pins. Then they release the pinless one, BUT it's cel shaded and exclusive, so they can still make another one to sell.
    Same thing with Captain America:
    They give us a nice looking Cap but still has pins and the shield has holes...
    I know nothing about making figures, but I don't believe their "we make characters with the available molds at the moment and if there's demand we see if we can release a better version" excuse.

  • @busdriverguy
    @busdriverguy Рік тому +1

    I kinda wish they focused on recessed lines bc raised lines with paint is more plastic and it's gonna cost more, however a good classic Spidey figure wouldn't have raised webbing. Also if they just went ahead and made a decent webline that wraps around the hands, they could get away with not putting sculpt and/or paint on them.

    • @Poundz978
      @Poundz978  Рік тому +2

      The issue with recessed lines is the lack of painting them…. They tried to black wash them in the past… it didn’t look too clean…. So they’ve been lacking on adding to recessed webs. They tried again with the no way home 3 pack and the web line paint is much cleaner than a wash but it’s not that great or sharp enough, plus now they want to consider painting recessed webs as a deluxe treatment. I don’t want to pay deluxe prices for toys that don’t get deluxe treatment.

I've worked in factories before so I know from experience that when a machine in the assembly line isn't performing properly, technicians have to come in and fix the problem, which can bring production to a screeching halt and repairs can take up to an hour. That's an hour's worth of production on units that has to be made-up for and sometimes that just can't be done in the expected amount of time.

Take the 2 packs 6 arm Spider-Man & Morbius, basically small changes for a high price. I have really cut down & try not to buy what l already have like the X-Men 97.

    By “lots of deco” they probably mean, 24 individual pieces of that figure will be required to get digitally painted and on Spider-Man, most of those have to go in for deco twice (red on top of blue then black lines on top of the red).
    It’s still a crap excuse though. As consumers we shouldn’t have to cover those charges.

      @@Poundz978 Again, I’m not justifying the prices or lack of accessories, just trying to explain their meaning.
      On that specific figure (Retro Animated Spider-Man) there’s 32 individual pieces that have deco.
      8 have 3 colors
      8 have 2 colors
      16 have 1 color
      That’s 56 paint applications total.
      Upper torso, abdomen and crotch count as 2 pieces each as they are painted before being assembled.

    I think if they made better figures with more accurate deco and better articulation and effects they would sell just as well or even better and they wouldn’t be as many peg warmers I would rather have 30 awesome figures than 100 mediocre figures and I wish they did better character research often times it looks like they look at the first picture and go with that, what I don’t understand is why dosen’t Spider-man come with a spider-sense, or why don’t they put out better power effects often time it seem stale and lazy last time I think they did any thing innovative with power effects was the Kirby Crackle.

      The problem rn is that what shart says about “30 quality figures a year” is what MAFEX is doing rn, they’ve really gotten into the marvel groove this year and it’s great, hasbro is filling the space that MAFEX and SHF can’t, they can release on mass for a lower price. But in my opinion that lower price isn’t a better deal for what you’re getting.

    it cost more due to the tools they use that's costing more to make the figure that's something. that's overlook which. Has to do with the pricing as well. it works both ways the company has to understand the consumers. and consumers needs to understand how toy companies work. after all marvel legends is not just for adults its not mafex it's for kids 4and up to adults and its harder to please adults. kids don't mind it that much.so i don't cry over.it on how they make it because as time goes on toy companies will advance eventually. I can't complaint. i have to worry about my wallet and this tough inflation. And as a grown man. no toy is perfect, but they are wonderful to collect. so, i don't care much there has to be a balance. it has to be affordable for the younger collector as well. that depends on their parents to buy toys for them. for the kids the teens collectors so by wanting more it leaves them out so i don't go bonkers over figures. there are bigger problems then a little paint mistake on my figures.in this world. The more we ask the toy gets get pricier. Because the toy companies need better tools that cost more so it gets more expensive, so you get what you ask for.
