    I don’t have a great relationship with my dad and sadly I don’t wish it to be any different, but one great thing he did pass down to me in my younger years was his love for U2 which gave me my first sense of pride as an Irish girl. Watching this was almost cleansing, what a beautiful relationship you two have, and how awesome you get to share music both ways! Ofc most of us are usually here for your dad’s reactions since that’s the main channel setup, but I’d love to see more of these reverse videos, and “War” would be a fantastic watch. That’s the real rock n roll U2 🤘🤘💚

    One little thing I wanted to add. One Tree Hill is dedicated to a roadie for U2 from New Zealand who passed away in motorcycle accident. Greg Carroll. One Tree Hill is a hill in Auckland NZ. Great reaction none the less to this classic album!

    Just FYI
    (1) One Tree Hill is a town in New Zealand where Bono's roadie, Greg Carroll was from, who died in a motorcycle accident in Dublin in 1986 (the Joshua Tree album is dedicated to him). NOT some native American landscape thing.
    (2) Exit - I've been attending u2 gigs since 1987 and have yet to see this song as an exit from stage song. In fact, it was rarely played after the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 (see Robert John Bardo trial in 1989) and only made a re-appearance in 2017 as part of the JT 20th anniversary tour.

    • @ursgeiser6570
      @ursgeiser6570 Рік тому

      Only now discovered the reaction of Put You On and my School English leaves "chopped off" something open; maybe that's a good thing. For me: TJT is atmosheric, spiritual and musically and lyrically so diverse - a masterpiece.
      AB contains catchy shorter to the point radio songs on a high level, which I still don't want to miss. But the balancing act of such structured pop songs is dangerous and didn't work at all on POP. I love Gone (inspired by Pearl Jam) and the experimental MOFO, but Starring is "stolen" by Oasis and the rest not worth mentioning, even the srcod side a little boring. U2 didn't played live songs in the last 20 years and that says all.
      Later I can state good worthwhile 10-20 songs (Kite, Sometimes, Miracle Drug/so a profounded background, Breath, Break. Cedarwood, Wolves .... ), but no 2000th album has this musical and lyrical atmosheric intensitiy as Boy, War, TUF, TJT+AB. All the best to YOU and have fun with all kind of good music.

    I don't know the dad's name, but I *highly* recommend listening to Bono's new book "Surrender". Each chapter is a reference to song, a total of 40 songs.
    He gets quite vulnerable and humble.

    From a time when Bono's vocal range was just incredible and his lyrics were just pure poetry on a level only ever reached by someone like Bob Dylan, U2 will go down musical history as one of the greatest ever, personally i think their albums Achtung Baby and All that you can't leave behind are right up there with The Joshua tree.

    I think now that your dad has realized the music that you like is more expressive and honest than he realized….it seems like he has become more open with his personal life and feelings….it could just be that he’s more comfortable behind a camera but whatever it is it’s making the channel even better….keep up the good work both of you

    I think U2 could have definitely aged more graciously, but this album stands up to time. I feel like their post 2000's albums sort of tarnished their public image.
    Also love how Kendrick featured Bono on Damn seeing how both have a well developed savior complex.

      Completely disagree with the post 2000 comment. If anything they were more personal and at times more intimate, with the exception to no line on the horizon, than any point of their career. Ironically their public image were starting to get "tarnished" when Rattle and Hum came out.

    • @sp0ngeb00b7
      @sp0ngeb00b7 Рік тому

      People are always going on about Bono’s “Saviour complex”, but then it’s “All these damn celebrities wasting their money!!1” when he pours way more of his riches into charity and benefit work than any other celeb I know… This dude funds US air ambulances, and he’s doing way more work for impoverished countries than some governments

    Not many know that U2 didn’t play Exit live from around 1991 to 2017. The reason was as follows - In the 1991 Murder case Bardo, a deranged 19 year old from Tucson, showed up at Schaeffer's apartment in Los Angeles on July 17, 1989 and shot her to death. He told a court-appointed psychiatrist that the U2 song, specifically the line, "The pistol weighed heavy," gave him motivation for the murder.
    As evidence, Bardo's defense attorney plays the song in the courtroom, making the case that his client is mentally incompetent. When the song plays, Bardo, who has shown no real emotion throughout the trial, suddenly becomes energized and sings along to the song.

      I'd recommend checking out Achtung Baby and Zooropa, those 2 albums (even Pop) are nothing like the rest of their work. It was definitely intentional on the bands part. Bono described The Fly (from Achtung Baby) as "four men chopping down The Joshua Tree".
