    It looks like he had trained to fly over his two story home on a 30' runway is his back yard. The Hp / torque / to weigh ratio is impressive.

      Balsa wood and nylon fabric, with a few bits of carbon fiber and aluminum.. Probably under 500lb including the engine.

    Incredible !!!! What would ..... Richard Pearce say from New Zealand or the Write Brother's from the U.S.A ... Both Respectively deserve a mention . GOD bless these men for being the forefathers of powered controlled flight . Richard Pearce actually had aleirons and the Wright brothers wing waulping .. I'm in oar , and have now watched this short at least one hundred times 🤪 seriously at least !! I'm still getting a thrill every time I see those wheels roll not even twice!!! And that amazing prop sound ,,. Sounded like a Rotax at first but boy that is amazing ..to see the power on , flaps down ... Airborne.. flaps up...😳. GONE ! !!! !!!

    I saw a piper cub fish spotter plane do this many years ago but the plane went backwards after takeoff. When the pilot eventually made it back to Merimbula airport, he landed on the taxiway in under 10 meters

    That Piper Cub design is 100 years old. Fighter pilots trained in them for WW2 you could fly it from the back seat.

      Not a Piper Cub, it's a Highlander Super STOL. Far lighter and different aircraft, plus his is highly modified, including engine.
      It only kinda looks like a cub only with your prescription glasses removed 100 yards away....

      Yamaha modified snowmobile engine cranking 300 hp at 11,500 rpm. The engine can put out more, but the strength of the gear reducer limits Steve to 300 hp.

    Depending on how light it is, and how much surface area there is for lift, combine with wind speed, ya, that’s totally doable!
    In fact, if there is a steady wind at 20mph, he could conceivably land the thing vertical relative to ground speed.
