    Thank you so much for providing this video tutorial for inexperienced people like myself who knows nothing about back flow preventer. I drew the valves on a piece of paper how they need to be positioned on the unit in order to be drained. I followed your instructions exactly like you said, and the back flow unit has stopped dripping. The plastic piece on top of the one way valve broke due to the freeze, and I was in panic mode, water was pouring out. This was a very easy and simple video to follow. THANKS!!!!!

    If you do not leave test cocks and ball valves on the backflow preventer at 45deg they may still freeze as they trap water when fully on and fully off...

    I believe some systems don't have that kind of backflow prevention. Only a water meter under ground in a box.

    So you don't need to shut off the two backflow prevent valves?
