Saying Goodbyes in Agonda, Goa as I travel by taxi to Dabolim Airport to depart India after 8 weeks.

- I've spent December/Five weeks in Agonda. Where would you rather spend the winter months? In a cold country or at a paradise beach bathed in sunshine? I first visited India in 1987. Spent that Christmas at Colva Beach in Goa. Have been back to India and Goa many times. My favourite beach in Goa had always been Palolem which I first visited in 1997. Agonda is around 7km from Palolem and on a day trip to Agonda in 2009 I fell in love with that beach. From Nov 2017 - Jan 2018 I stayed in Agonda for 2.5 months.
Due to covid restrictions I have been unable to return until 2023, so this is my first visit in 5 years. I've stayed in Agonda for 5 weeks on this trip. Have now moved to ChrisJoana, a Guest House near the Church where I've previously stayed in 2009 and 2017. It has a fantastic balcony and I feel comfortable there paying 1300 Rupees/£12/$15.50 per night.
I now have a 5 year India e-visa allowing me to stay for 180 days per calendar year. How wonderful is that? India finally became open to non-vaccinated tourists in November 2022, but I haven't been able to return to this magical country until a year later.

Lovely ending, I thought you might have stayed longer. The food looked great, having a decent curry every night would be heaven. Just not sure about the masala omelettes and tea though! 😅

I have a part time tutor job at a college in the USA. I met a nice young lady from Sri Lanka who is dating a young American tutor here. Her aunt from Sri Lanka met an American while his boat was stuck on Sri Lanka for several months for repairs. While he was there, he fell in love with the Sri Lanken people and ran an ad in the newspaper to find a wife. He married a Sri Lanken woman and moved her to the The USA. This is how her niece managed to go to college in the USA. I told the American man he will need to marry her to be able to keep her in the USA. He is not old enough to retire there since he is young. I asked her if Sri Lankens do age gap relationships like Women of other Asian countries do. She said age gap relationships are shunned in Sri Lanka.

Great story Roland. I met a Sri Lankan student whilst I was working at a University in the UK. I was 30, she was 25. We dated for 3 years. I love Sri Lanka and have been there numerous times. My 2009 trip coincided with the last bomb dropping (literally) in Colombo, as I cowered under a table in a hotel bar.
