  • Heya Pals, we're back with some more pixel art content for you. This time we're taking it easy with a live design session / timelapse with some commentary. This one took quite a while to get right, probably needed a bit more reference work to avoid all the pixel pushing in the middle of the process, but I'm happy with where the character ended up, for now!
    Hope you find the process enjoyable and informative.
    Thanks!

    Inspiring work! At first I thought the chain was a pocket watch, since he's a conductor. Really cool how much you can do with such a small canvas! Thanks for sharing!

    "You can't make decisions on something that doesn't exist" is something I really needed to hear. Has helped me so much just starting with some kind of blob, and then tweaking it. Great video as usual!

    The bright red hair is something so specific I'd keep that for the main character only. The red highlight on the conductor's hair makes it look like he's the main character's dad or they could be related. It's always fun to watch you do pixel art. Great video.

    Amazing, I really like the character noticeable in this sprite. You can immediately imagine what kind of a guy he would be. Very nice!😎
    Anyways, I reeaally enjoy this kind of videos, keep it going😁

    I really like him. Was a fan of the tiny hammer to give some contrast with how huge he was, but if this is the context we meet him it's the right call - he's definitely more conductor than jeweller.
    Also can we talk about the steam-mane on the train horse?! Outstanding.

    Dude the speed it took yoy too make it was amazing 🤩 honestly its fun watching your process, usually when i draw i dont try things out becuase im scared im gonna make it worse somehow but just watching this has kinda inspired me tok try out allittle more 😂

      The video has cuts and is played at fast speed most of the time.
      And there's no need to be "scared" drawing. Just do it, and make copies when you don't want to spoil the last result. Just make it simple.

    So inspiring man. You might be the most talented and skilled pixel art artist ive ever seen. Just wanted to ask what color palette you use? The colors just seem wonderful and i want to test them! Goodluck and i will definitely buy Insignia when it drops. I recently got aseprite and ive been trying to learn pixel art and you have been my biggest inspiration. I thank you on behalf of all the people that youve inspired!

    Like another comment said, I really think that chain should be connected to a pocket watch. Goes with the train/conductor/engineer vibe. You could even add in an (idle?) animation of him checking his pocket watch.

    Alright, leaving this here in hopes that you might see it Adam. I am trying to figure out how you did your preview window for this video and after scouring the internet have turned up nothing. I know how to get it onto the second monitor but not how you have it large enough for this video. Thanks in advance for your help! Great video btw :)

    • @AdamCYounis
      @AdamCYounis  7 днів тому

      Aseprite v1.3 and up allow for the preview to be dragged out of the aseprite window, over to a second monitor. So I just scale it to the full size of the other monitor and record there using OBS.

  • @Selrisitai

    Yeah, I think making him a bit taller would be helpful. While his bulk is obvious, his height actually comes off as short. Even though he's taller than the main character, if they're not side-by-side (like in the horse-head train example image) one could get the impression that he's actually shorter.
    I know it really sucks to be compared to someone else. "Hey, you know Brandon James Greer? Do videos like him!" I've had people say stuff like that to me and it makes me want to put my head (or theirs) through a wall.
    Buuuuuuuuut. Good advice is good advice, right?
    I think you have a great personality, great soft-spoken voice, and you're enthusiastic and engaging; however, you might allow yourself to be TOO rambly. It lengthens the videos with fluff, and if I weren't just completely fascinated by what you do, and how well you do it, I don't know that I would keep watching. Maybe UA-cam isn't that big of a deal for you, or you have other revenue, or maybe you just really like how you do things now, and that'd all be good, but assuming you want to push your channel and viewership?
    Perhaps coming in with a voiceover, even a non-scriped, but EDITED voice-over, could enhance not only the pacing, but it would allow you to apply music or otherwise play with the video editing in a way that presents your particularly stylistic flair in a more freeing way. Right now you obviously have your overlay and your intro. You have a kind of brand and it works really well, but because your videos are so off-the-cuff, well, I wonder if you're not even conveying the information you have in a way that really allows you to spread your creative and didactic ("teacherly") wings.
    In closing, I believe you have a lot to offer, not just in the way of entertainment, but in skills and tips to help others improve, and if making your videos more entertaining, with better pacing and a strong style would do that, then what's the downside? Well, we know the downside: Time. Editing videos takes time. It might just not be feasible for you to make more refined (not an insult!) videos, but I think it would be a boon to you and your viewers as well.
    If nothing else, perhaps it's something to consider?
    Love your work as always, pal.

      His main goal is to finish Insignia. He streams on Twitch while he works on the game. He's aware of Brandon James Greer. Adam knows he needs an editor, but can't afford one. He would like to grow his UA-cam channel; it's just not feasible at the moment. Everything you said here, he already knows.
      As for the "TOO rambly" comment, I prefer his "pal" vibes, just chit-chatting while making art. I don't need him to become another "content creator," trying to pass scripted jokes as spontaneous. I rarely watch BJG anymore, but I watch Adam on Twitch every week; he's doing a great job there. Like I said, it's a preference.

    • @AdamCYounis
      @AdamCYounis  27 днів тому +1

      As @tzeege mentioned, given I have limited resources, I have to go for the most feasible format that I can produce comfortably. For this video, I'm leaning a bit more into the "bob ross" format of casual performance art. It's definitely a more laid back format, but it's one I can produce in an afternoon once a week, as opposed to a more scripted format which may take 20+ hours of scripting, recording, editing etc. As you'll see in the channel, I do put that kind of effort in when the situation calls for it, it's just not something I can do with the same degree of consistency given that I'm a streamer / game developer first and a youtuber second.
