I picked up an Odin recently; it was on sale for 36% off and so given its looks, I couldn't resist! I have to say, they did a nice job with the detailing - the embossed doors; flat base plate with raised lettering; the two tone finish... a very handsome razor! And the extra thickness in the base plate and lower profile doors makes it sound more like a three piece razor rather than a TTO. I like a razor on the high side of medium, so this razor is bit on the mild side for me; first outing with an Astra SP was DFS, but second outing with a Feather got me to BBS. That's three passes plus touch-ups. I'd put it at about the same efficiency as a vintage Super Speed. As you note, a very nice shaver that gets little feedback from the alum. So not one that will be in heavy rotation for me, but anyone who likes a Super Speed would likely find this to be an excellent addition to their collection.
Just shaved with this exact razor/blade combo today & wow! Magnificent shave. I put the aggressiveness on par with merkur 34c hd. However this is a heavy razor which I love because it keeps me from applying pressure. I LOVE heavy safety razors. I just jumped down this rabbit hole I only have 2 safety razors but I think my collection will grow 😂

One thing I noticed right away after switching from a cartridge razor to a safety razor is I’m not getting razor bumps on my neck anymore whenever I always used cartridge razors I was always getting razor bumps on my neck wish I would’ve switched to a safety razor years ago I know that’s all my Grandfather used was a safety razor whenever he started shaving cartridge razors hadn’t been invented yet you know they always say that new is better but whenever it comes to shaving that’s not the case at all the old traditional way is much better.
Hi Mark I have the Vikings Blade Chieftain razor but the head on mine looks like yours except mine is chrome platted. I like the razor but it’s going to take awhile for me to get use to the heft of it and how aggressive it is.

I have been using Gillette cartridge razors (the likes of Gillette proglide razor) for over a decade but recently become aware of the merits of safety razors (closer shaves, less irritation, more economical, less ingrown hairs, more eco friendly, etc). I was considering getting Gillette proglide power (never used the power variant) but now am also considering getting a safety razor. I am thinking of purchasing a safety razor to try it out. Since I'm new to safety razors, which safety razor would you recommend? Also found there's single edge safety razor and double edge safety razor, what might you recommend to a newbie?
Yes, I sometimes use the Chieftain Odin for head shaves. Its redesign makes for a bit milder and smoother shave and I like that kind of razor for head shaves. However, my real go to fore head shaves is the Supply SE.:)
