- Here is the start of my “But make it Folk” series, where I create outfits for fantasy characters, reimagined with a dash (or a heap) of folklore. My very first subject is Yennefer of Vengerberg: powerful Sorceress and love interest to the Witcher, Geralt of Rivia. Join me as I explain why I chose each little detail for her folklorified look!

Don't you at me for the purple eyes and curly black hair 🖤 😸💟
i love it
I actually came from village named "Węgierska Górka" which means "Hungarian Mountain" in polish♥️😱
The coin necklace also calls to mind "Toss a Coin to your Witcher," so there's that in your favor!
I needed this comment in my life. Thank you. ✨
I love that in making an outfit for a character with a Hungarian and German name you managed to find a German folk costume in a Hungarian thrift store! It was fate!
I's much rather see this costume than the ones in the series. Your take on it is beautiful and so practical. Love it
Aww! Thank you! 🌷✨
Treu
Hell yeah! Reminds me of Rachel Maksy's "...But make it vintage" series, love this. Missed you! ❤
Very glad to be back! ☺️❤️
Please make it a series!!!
@@joannaszulc1496 good idea!
In case you were wondering, the coin is the Russian Empire coin which dates back to the Nicolas II time. The inscription (roughly) says "Copper Russian Coin 3 Kopeiki" (Медная российская монета, три копейки)
This is so cool, thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you! Very interesting indeed! ✨
Please do a tutorial of the hairstyle
Thift stores in Bavaria always have a section of folk costumes. Which they wildly range in quality.
Fun fact the first Finnic language to be written was Karelian and it was written in Cyrillic on birch bark in the 12th century.
Bist du auch aus Bayern?
Loved the mirrored pendant. That was what sold me as being a magick user’s outfit.
I let out a small squeal of delight when you whipped out the jhumka! It looks absolutely beautiful on you!! Also, the flower motif on the earrings are supposed to be lotuses as they're considered sacred to Hindus, owing to iconography associating lotuses with Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity!
Your hair looks amazing with the black and white outfit. A tutorial on it please!
I'm polish, I've read, played and watched anything witcher-related and let me tell you - I had NO IDEA Vengerberg is supposed to be derived from "Węgierska Góra" but it makes sense!
amazing costume btw!!! 💕
It's a cool theory, but the Wengen is also a real mountain (a 'berg') in Switzerland. So Yenn could just as likely be Swiss!
In one of the books there is a brief description of Yen’s childhood memory and her mother calls her “Janka” and “Janeczka”, which are derivations of a Polish name “Janina”, soooo… could be Hungarian, could be Polish or Swiss, I guess we’ll never know ;)
It's a wild guess, not anything that's "supposed to be" ;) According to the Witcher wiki, the town's name is derived from one prince Venger whose name it connects with French "venger" - avenge, revenge (I mean, you can see this connection quite clearly in English too: (a)venger). (The wiki calls its source unreliable, but it's hard to tell if they mean a certain detail about Venger or his existence in Sapkowski's universe at all; either way, the word "venger" exists in various forms in more than one language). Taking into account how much the Witcher is inspired by Celtic mythology and Arthurian legends, I find this "Western-European" etymology much more plausible than a random (is there anything Hungarian about Vengerberg anyway?), convoluted play on words. Why do I call it convoluted? Well, you admitted yourself that you had no idea about this connection. Because as a Polish person, "venger" and "węgier" do not sound similar enough to you at all. With all the respect for Anna, it seems like a really long shot.
@jamie the kid Yennefer of Węgierska Górka
It's a lovely costume you've put together, that reed stiffened bodice is amazing. Please oh please do a video on the hair style, its so pretty.
Something about the coin necklace and the hand belt just SCREAM Yennefer to me 😍 I love this look
I loved the addition of the belt and the coin necklace! The necklace feels like it's a collection of coins she's collected on her travel through all the regions
You finding that black dress in a Hungarian thrift store reminded me of when I found a German folk jacket (green wool with matching green suede trim and antler buttons) in a vintage store in southern France.
The outfit is really fabulous! I especially like the bodice on the black dress 🖤
However, I think the flowers on the earrings are lotus blooms, rather than tulips.
that was I thought too!!! but hey, they look good anyway lol
Perhaps the lotus blossoms are cosplaying tulips.
Once things are stylized, it's easy to have multiple interpretations
Did you just use Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody no. 2 when explaining why Yennefer is Hungarian? Well played, I guess. Oh, and you already talked about that hairstyle on your channel! I wear it now, I really love it. The wrapping of the braids is genius.
Indeed I did! I almost forgot 🙈
Which video? I love it and want to try it out myself!
@@PS-qf9fj A livestream about folkloric hairstyles for different ages!
Please tell me it's gonna be a series. I loved your outfit so much! I would LOVE to see different characters, even "less appropriate" for Eastern Europe folk style
It looks fantastic. And yes, please do a tutorial for that beautiful hair do.
The detail on that bodice is like nothing I’ve ever seen before, what a stunning piece!! You look gorgeous!
Oh my gods, I love the texture of your dress - those stitches and lace are soooo beautiful. It's one of these dresses I'd like to put on the hanger and just stroke it for hours just to feel this gorgeous textures ❤
Fényt hoztál hozzánk ezzel a kedves videóval az év legsötétebb napjaiban. Köszönjük!
The scene with geralt selling ciri made me cry xd xletalis would be proud of you
Omg the hair is amazing! Please do a tutorial
This is so so cool, I am from the north of Spain, so we don’t have the same kind of folk coin jewellery you do, although I find it stunning and I’ve wanted some since I went to live in Bulgaria years ago and saw some there (I’m back home now). What we do have and I vividly remember my mum doing when I danced traditional folk dance is aprons and this other piece that rests across the shoulders and crosses over the front of the body (it’s called dengue so idk what you’ll get if you Google it) embroidered with jet beads, they are so so beautiful and very heavy and they chime when the dancers move, sometimes I’ve also seen the head scarves with bead trimming but that’s rarer.
This has nothing to do with Yen or the Witcher but I am writing some stuff and I really like your videos not only for inspiration about outfits and jewellery for my main character (she’s Romanian raised in the UK) but also for the little tidbits of history garment making you include, like using reeds if you can’t afford whalebone on your stays.
I love the outfit so much! But more than anything I'm OBSESSED with this necklace. I wish they still made them these days, I'd totally wear it daily 🥲
Heyyy !!! The way u put together every detail of the outfit is so creative. ❤️ You look beautiful. ❤️
Was delighted to see a jhumka on you. Love from India 🇮🇳
I love it! I wore my new folkloric outfit to church this morning! I feel so pretty in it! I love the lace trim on that apron! 😍
German person here! I always love it when you get excited about Tracht.
Love this personal response to the Witcher, so individual and creative! The little peeks of purple lining to the bodice are also very Yennefer;) reminded me of her eyes. the coin necklace was a great nod to the show too. It was thanks to watching your videos I got into the Witcher and now I’m turning into a die-hard geek for it. So looking forward to season 3.
the entire "costume" is on point and amazing. i love the lace detail on the blouse, the bodice is *chef's kiss* perfection, and the apron is like it was made for this. love, love, love! and i too believe you should make this a whole series "...but make it folk" would be a hit!
It looks so pretty! I definitely agree that this is something Yennefer would have worn! Also lol the cat.
Yay! You're back!
Wow, it was such a shock to hear you say "Staphorst", as it is a town quite close to where I live and I had not seen it coming that you, a person across europe, would mention that haha! How small the world can be ;)
Yes Witcher content! 🖤💜🖤💜🖤
I could not love this outfit more.
actually liked this a lot more than her outfits in the series (though i loved her "coat"-like dress in the last couple shots) - well done!
Wow, what an amazing outfit you put together. That bodice! That hair! Just incredibly inspiring!
That white highlight under your eyeliner is so pretty!
I see Yennefer, I see Węgry, I watch. Sending love from Poland!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH THAT'S THE RING I SENT YOU!!!!!!!!!!
I was hoping it would make an appearance!! I'm so honored!!! 😭❤️🙌🏻
Beautiful! It makes me want to read the books. I really liked all the descriptions of each item, its history, & why you chose it. I would definitely like to see a video about how to make the hairstyle!
So perfect! And please please please do a hair tutorial on your 'do!
Beautiful - thank you for sharing
That apron is so fantastic…just gorgeous
Beautiful outfit, I would love to see a tutorial for your hairstyle! Merry Christmas!
I‘m from Albania and in my culture we also wear coins as a part of our clothes and hair accessories. But I love the idea of wearing it as a necklace! I‘ll totally try it out! I subscribed after watching this video immediately because your channel is so magical! ✨✨✨
I hope you'll do a Geralt version of this as well, you already have the hair for it!
The belt really was a gorgeous detail to add
Loved this one. ❤ Enjoy the witchy-ness.
I found you a while ago by looking for Gibson girl hair tutorial and I immediately knew you're my kind of person when I noticed Geralt's figure in the background
Omg I absolutely love everything about this!!
SOOOOO glad for another video. Missed you❤
I loved this so much!
As always, Love. Love, Love your video! I REALLY REALLY Like the way your Beautiful outfit came together ❤ 😍 Thank you for sharing SisStar 💖💫
Thank the UA-cam gods for recommending your channel! I'm in love already and you have won a subscriber!
Lovely outfit, I'm austrian so our folk costumes are pretty similar to Bavaria and Hungary (that latter one for obvious historical reasons). Just a note, I think the flower on the Indian earrings are lotus flowers rather than tulips.
Loved this! Thanks so much for making this! Can’t wait for more Witcher stuff!
I just found you and Styx do I love you already!!! Witcher AND folklore? While sounding like Aurora?? I was bound to love you💖
This was so amazing!!!!
LOVE!! I’ve been so thinking of you lately - I finally got connected with a cousin in the Czech Republic and she had photos of some of her relatives in the local costume! Czech project ahead!
Enjoyed the description and the dress is beautiful!
The hands belt! Nice.
Oh what a gorgeous outfit and as for the bodice - that is beautiful! All that stitching is amazing!
Oooh I would love to see a close examination and analysis of that German bodice and skirt! 🖤
Aahhh i love this so much!! Thank you!!!
More please I am also a Witcher fan both books and show.
Her hair color reminds me of Sophie from howls moving castle❤️ looks just like starlight.
I adore everything about this!
It's a fantastic outfit!
I admire how much thought and effort you put into it!
Nothing to do with this vid but Annaaaaa you HAVE to see "Rimsky Korsakov The snowmaiden 1952 Snegurochka", it's SO GOOD. It's an animated movie from the 50's and the whole thing is incredibly gorgeous. Such talent!!!
I love your hairstyle videos. Please make one for this hairstyle it’s awesome.
This costume is great too!
And now we need a tutorial for that hairstyle 😍😍😍
She provided the link 😉
Take a look at this link for the hair: ua-cam.com/video/RUDXEF_V6VI/v-deo.html
The secret santa gift unboxing video was what brought me to your channel :) I just love how passionate you are about vintage treasures
wheeey! Loved the video and the belt buckle and fantasy accessory were great additions. If I had to critique anything it would be the colour of the earrings, I personnaly really dislike mixing jewelry materials/colours and the mix of bronze and silver bothers me (though the earrings themselves are gorgeous!)
Love from Germany!
Oh my lord that *dress*! Swooning!
Holy shit your back. I have missed you.
Beautiful! No other word fits!
U are back!!
Please yes a hair tutorial it looks so goooooood!!!
Yess wow 🤩 so stunning ❤
