5:18 As a beginner I can say that making a video before the season starts is actually very helpful. Because if I decide I want to make something similar I will have enough time to figure it out before it is the appropriate season. I am currently working on trousers for upcoming winter.
Thank you! ❤️ They totally love you back. (I have a feeling that ShoutyShepherd is kind of a player, but with the heart in the right place, for what it's worth 😉)
I am *A MAN* and I really like wearing corsets because I have no reason to wear a bra but corsets and stays, if well tailored, support my back pretty well and prevent me from slouching. Also I personnaly feel really body conscious when wearing women's garment without any corsetery (even though I'm really not soft and corsets barely do anything without padding) :/
I love the silliness! Regarding bras/corsets, in my experience people with larger breasts tend to prefer support, and people with smaller ones tend to prefer to go without, or simply hate wearing bras. That said, I know of exceptions to this “rule”.
In high school I took a bus to school. It was about a 45-50 minute ride. There was a small group of friends I made that we'd bring projects to school so we can work together on the ride. I'd bring crochet projects (using beanies or drawstring bags). Emily hand sewed ballet slippers (which was wild to watch her make) Mandolin made dolls from old socks. Candice knitted. Emmett made tail keychains from yarn and his girlfriend, Jules, took most of sophomore year making movable parts for a wolf costume. She'd do the sewing on the bus. It was pretty cool. Some of the best parts of high school 😊
This was fascinating, and I'd love to see more videos about folk costume and folk costume history! Also something about pointing to your mustache to show your intended gender makes me crack up every time. I also hate bras and hardly wear them, but I love the support (both front and back!) of corsets and folk vests. I wore my first corset mockup all day yesterday to check the fit, and today I feel weird and sad without it :P
Thank you! I'm immeasurably happy that so many people are interested in my folk costume history tidbits ☺️🌿 I love sharing more knowledge about this subject, so I can promise there's more to come! 🌷
I think I love you (in a non-pervy way). And I think that song was about me, lol. You have sparked an interest in researching the folk costumes of my own heritage. My grandmother's family were tailors who made traditional clothing in Macedonia and I hope I can follow in their footsteps. Thank you so much for this inspiration.
Wow! That's wonderful! From the very little I know about them, I must say: Macedonian costumes are superb! I am happiest when I get to inspire people to look into their roots! 🌿
Thanks so much for making this video! I’ve been finding it super difficult to start researching folk costume, and it’s amazing to see someone present it in the costume UA-cam format I’ve grown so fond of. Also I love your little skits! As for bras vs corsets vs folk vests, I’ve been using vests (some folk, not sure where from since thrifted) to hide and support my chest until I can get top surgery. It’s great to know that other people also used vests for support!! I find them much more comfortable and convenient than bras or binders.
Hiya Anna! You have inspired me to do research into my heritage and learn more about my father's home country: Romania! Thank you so much for sharing this and hopefully I can make my own traditional vest as well and wear it proudly in Australia (where it is winter right now.) :)
I loved every minute of this video. Your vests are gorgeous. The other pieces of garment, too. I love folk music and the Kodály collection of them in Kecskemét.❤
Once again such a great video. I'll go watch part I again, just for the pleasure of it. Getting to hear about folk history is so enjoyable. Also, both the song and ShoutyShepherd were appreciated.
Horrible Histories for the win!!! This is such a fun video and I loved the information. I am a shameless sponge for this kind of historical illumination. I would definitely choose the vest over bras. I've had quite an issue with bras lately and I realised we have never gotten along. I may make myself a vest now. . . out of old sheets first because the moral of your story has scared me straight. Please keep the content coming. You have a natural talent for this!
Haha! I'm glad you can learn from my mistake! 😁 And thank you! I'm so very happy that there's so much interest in the folk stories I have to share 😊 also, kind of relived that my reference was recognisable! 😁
Thank you so much for this series and please do more! I am Hungarian with roots in Kolozsvar (romanian gypsy grandpa) and Bosnia (from dad's side) . I want to recreate/inspired clothes of my ancestors. I am also a 17th century reenactor (living in England and reenact the year of Civil War) I discovered that the bodice/vest is very similar of different nations and throughout centuries. Up until the 18th century not many things changed in shape.
I'm a "bra burner" they are pinchy, constrictive, and just over all uncomfortable....but since I live in the west (U.S.A.) going braless with greasy hair is frowned upon....you have given me the strength to fight that nonsense and be true to myself....thank you!!!...
I am freaking out! I recently discovered your channel, have been watching 2 videos and this video came in my recommendations! You are hungarian aswell I am freaking out!! Loved the video and all the background information you gave
Corsets are the way to go! I normally wear a bra, because I have a big chest, but corsets and tight vests and such are so much more comfortable. Plus the back support and poster help is an additional plus. Also, this video was hilarious, I couldn't help but laugh at the advertisement. :)
I love shouty shepherd (It's the twirly mustache that does it for me ;P)! And I super appreciate all the historic background you're giving us. It definitely got me interested again in researching my own regions folk costumes (Trachten)...And I'm also Team No Bra Never.
Was that a Horrible Histories homage?! Loved it. Also, would much rather wear a corset than a bra for the support it gives, the nice hug feeling especially in these distancing times, the silhouette is so flattering, and the item itself can be so pretty. Since they aren't really socially acceptable I usually wear sports bras for a similar feel, but they don't give me the comforting exoskeleton I want.
I love the hug feeling I get from corsets. I’ve found it’s even helped with my anxiety- it’s like a weighted blanket for my torso. I know of autistic people who like corsets for that same reason - though I also know some that hate them because they can’t stand anything tight. Mileage may vary, obviously.
This was so fascinating! I'm *so* glad I found your channel as I'm doing research for a reconstruction project of folk costumes from my native region (Alsace) and resources and people working on folk garment are so rare! Can't wait to see your video about the decoration of your vest 😊
I Love discovering Your Channel! Sooo my style! I'm looking like a modern peasant today the way I dress with my Vest, and Traditional Gypsy floral slirt/ Alpine style.
I finally have a well-fitting corset that I'm wearing correctly and I really like it. I don't wear it everyday, but it's a nice alternative when I don't want to deal with bras
5:10 reminds me of BB, who had her Lady Sherlock ensemble ready for summer, and her adapted 18c summer dress for autumn.. 😉 I’m subscribed.. you’re too funny,! 🤣
Nay to bras! I'm making a Symington corset to replace my bras 😊 This video was so informative, I have a costume made for a Hobbit look but this helps me understand *why* the look works.
Thank you! That's such great feedback! When I started wearing folk costume inspired outfits on a day-to-day basis, I had a similar experience and now I'm so happy I somehow managed to convey that in my video! 🌷
I'm really glad I wasn't drinking tea as ShoutyShepherd appeared, I laughed so hard (where do I order? ;) ) I stopped wearing bras like a year ago and it's so much better for my back. I still haven't finished sewing my corset, so no opinion on that topic so far. Thank you for the funny and informative video, I'm looking forward to the next part and the hair tutorial! :)
Hello Anna, Nice video. Love the historical aspect of it (more of it please, pretty please) Otherwise, I have to wear a bra but more the time goes by, more I'm thinking of a corset.
Corsets are great. I made my own pair of stays a couple of months ago (which I had to adjust later, despite having made a mockup), and I love my stays so much! One day I will make another one. As for bras: part of the reason behind me making stays was that I wanted to have a bra-alternative. I would say that I'm somewhat of a medium size, some support is nice but I can go without. Especially the bra straps that *always* come of me shoulders are really upsetting. Usually I do wear bras though. (Due to some coincidence not right now...)
This vest turned out so beautiful ! I like how the broad black velvet area at the bottom and the tinier thin ribbons create a transition to the stripy wool area ! The advertisement - sketch is extremely funny ! I'm very convinced to give up my bra for a fitted vest ! I love vests for disguising and improving the appearance of the figure . Actually , I sewed a historical Venetian bodice ( after a commercial pattern ) with a lot of plastic zip - ties boning in the front but that's not necessary , one can get supporting layers by stitching layers together . I buy second hand dirndls and try to fit them to the upper part to my torso , wanted to slap on funny embellishments for fun ...
Being the weird personage that I am, I watched these three video's in reverse. (I raised an eyebrow at your chiding, but continued to watch. hee hee hee) I found each one so funny and informative at the same time. It was enriching and wonderfully enjoyable. I am a no bra person, from being in an accident many years ago. Nor can I wear anything restricting my ribs, the pressure causes too much pain. If I try to lace myself up in a corset I have panic attacks. For me finding history full of non-restrictive peasant costumes was nothing short of a miracle. Not everyone bound themselves up in snug fitting garments. I used to do American Colonial Frontier historical re-enactments. All the other women dressed in corsets. Even tho the records clearly show, the frontier women didn't always wear them. I couldn't wear one, so after doing research on my Dutch ancestry, found that they too made loose fitting garments, from square's and rectangles. I made my costume after one of their styles and felt happy to be representing them, and their way of dress. I even bought a pair of wooden shoes. There are so many lovely historical garments out there to investigate. Which means there is always something out there perfectly suited to fit each persons taste's and needs. I love this vest! I have a slubbed silk suit jacket I think will upcycle very nicely into something like this. Now I wish I hadn't chucked my other wool jackets to Goodwill. Rats!
I hate wearing bras! I barely wear them now that I have an 1880’s style corset. The corset gives me way better support and helps my back pain so much, plus it gives me such a lovely silhouette!
As a person with chronic health issues, including back pain, my £15 shitty corset from Amazon is honestly my best friend. Back before quarantine when I was more active I would wear it multiple times a week and it was 10/10. I am considering doing what Jessica Kellgren-Fozard did in her corset video and getting a proper fancy corset made especially for me, which honestly I would probably wear every day
Yay for no bras! I've found that I'm always more comfortable in folk clothes. You don't need a bra to achieve the silhouette and often they are more uncomfortable if you try to wear modern undergarments with them. I've made a couple of dirndls and am incorporating more historical silhouettes into my wardrobe. The back and breast support is just so much better. There's a reason bodice designs remained almost the same for centuries - they're practical and really comfortable. Definitely going to make myself a couple of vests now! (It's going into winter in Australia, so a warmer pattern is appreciated!)
Haha! I figured there might be someone from the opposite hemisphere that this come handy for 😁 And yeah, I agree - the folk silhouettes are just so full of positives! 🌷
The traditional swedish folk costumes don’t use corsets or any type of bra either, at least the ones from the area where I grew up. There’s a sleeveless shift (which in some cases have a separate top front with darts but that might be a more modern construction), then a wrap blouse/shirt that supports the bust a bit, and over that a bodice/vest and a shawl to cover shoulders and chest. The bodice from my area is almost underbust and laced, so it also gives support if it fits right. For everyday wear or work wear, people would sometimes also use more vest-like garments with much higher necklines. If anyone is curious as to what these costumes look like you can image search ”Leksand folk costume” or ”Leksandsdrakt”. (Or ”Swedish folk costumes” I guess, but disregard the blue and yellow one, it is a much later construction). In Leksand, because of tradition, cultural interest and at least 150 years of tourism, people still wear the costumes sometimes for events, celebrations and graduations, especially village Midsummer celebrations, but usually the ”best”/sunday versions. I wore the costume a couple of summers for working at the open air home stead/village museum, and it is very comfortable.
I’m a big proponent of corsets. I’m very large busted and need a lot of support, but bras only distribute the weight of my breasts on a very thin band around the ribs, and the shoulder straps. Which is actually very painful for me, as I have a degenerative spinal condition that affects my neck all the way to my bottom. But a corset distributes that weight evenly across my entire torso, and doesn’t pull on my shoulders or neck, because it lifts from the bottom. It’s also a really great back brace, which I need. So no to bras, yes to corsets and stays. I especially love the higher backed stays of the 18thC, as they give excellent upper back support. But the silhouette they give isn’t appropriate for all of my clothes, so I do also like a mid to late 19thC style corset, because it gives a more “natural” (for me at least) shape that doesn’t look out of place for even more modern clothing. And yes, we definitely need to bring corsetry back! One thing I’ve noticed is that boned longline bras are becoming more popular in the modern bra world, and I think this is a more modern way of having that same sort of comfort and back support. If I do wear a “modern” bra, it’s my 1940s style cross your heart unwired longline bra. It’s boned at the sides and back, and finishes right at my east, and gives pretty good mid-back support, and doesn’t hurt anywhere near as much as a normal underwire bra. The only issue is that it doesn’t provide lower back support, and that’s where the worst of my back pain is. If I want to sit up in my wheelchair for longer than 30-45 minutes, or if I want to go out, or if I want to do sewing at the machine, I wear a corset.
I wear a very light bra. No wires etc. But I started to wesr no bra more often. But I realy like the idea, that a vest helps the back! I have to try that :) Thanks for your wonderfull videos. I just searched for Swiss costumes in the library and there are a lot of books :D
Oh my God, girl, you did a horrible histories sketch 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Love the video! Super informative, just like the last one, but still not overwhelming. And you present it in such an entertaining way - yay for folk costumes (and eye liner moustaches)!!!🧡🧡🧡
Bra person when not at home but not by choice. The amount of weight I have there really needs one but I'm looking to history for a replacement that's more comfortable. Perhaps a pair of stays might work :)
I like as little "bra" in my bras as possible, my favorite ones are like a shelf bra camisole but cropped. I've absolutely worn 18th century stays for shoulder support though! Made working with an injury much easier.
I either wear a tank top under my clothes or a sports bra. I only wear underwire bras if I'm getting dolled up for a wedding or something and the dress sits better with one.
Also no-bra girl here😂 thank you for sharing this video, it is hillarious, you are amazing and I've learned more about Hungarian culture in these 15 minutes than ever beforr in my life😂✨
😹😹I have been getting supplies to make my first Stays/corset as the bra is soo blooming hateful to wear as I’m so well ummm I’m a size E yuck but the past 10-11 years I have been wearing what is called the Ahh bra no wires no hooks and no major dis-comfort to wear😹😹😹 but alas also no support at all. I love the vest it’s pretty I never thought of a vest being supportive before 😊 might have to have a look at it later Love the video 🤗🤗🤗
Definetly in the BraClub, since I have a big breast and I love wearing fitted clothing with a retro style that does not suit me well if I don’t have the magical support of a bra. Also, I own a lot of cute bras, which cost a hell lot of money because I only like expensive shit (and I always need to buy them in stores that have a bra fitting service and a variety of sizes, because I don’t fit in standard sizes), it would be a waste to not wear them. Also I get super pumped and happy knowing I own and wear such pretty and good quality underwear 😂
I hate bras! But since I am overly "blessed", I must wear one or I look fat and awful. Corsets are great and, when well fitted, are quite comfortable; they are also quite expensive. When I was younger (about 40 yrs younger), vests were instyle and I wore them w/o a bra -- my mother was mortified. I think I will have to try your best. That is, I will make one similar to yours for myself. (Why yes, I can draft my own patterns.) Thank you! I cannot wait to see more about vests.f
I'm with you. I cattle farm and horseback ride and honestly my boobs are not slightly supported by a single bra. I have to wear two just to be safe if working on the horse. However, I have yet to make my corset or stays yet. I hope to work on that this April/May.
I laughed so hard at your song I scared my cat 🐈 I have worn bras all my life and hated them. They are just plain uncomfortable. I do like corsets. They support your back and an overbust one can support the bust. Looking forward to learning more about your best. I think it's beautiful.
The bit about swinging breasts was hilarious :)) I haven't heard any equivalent songs in Romanian, but I'm well aware that our traditional dress leaves little to the imagination... Add the fact that our skirts and aprons are inverse of Hungarian ones (flowy plain skirts, heavy aprons), and that underwear was not a thing for a very long time, and you get a LOT of exposure...
In America women seem to be very judgmental of women that don't wear a bra. I am not sure about what men think because I have never asked, I guess because I don't care what they think. I assume they have a preference - without bras. Women are different and I don't really know why I care what they think. Anyway that is another subject. I prefer to go without however, to curtail negative gossip I choose to wear a sports bra because they are more binding and therefore cuts the "jiggle" down. I am however in my late 60s so I am more inclined to wear jackets or sweaters when necessary for coverage. Love all your videos.
Hi Anna, when you are on the train (5:47) you have a fitted top / dress on. And I was wondering if you have made it yourself and if you can recommend the pattern? I love you video’s and your aesthetic.
I also live on a farm and don't like bras! Bras are suuuper uncomfortable for me but I do like how underbust corsets feel. I would love to hear about what corsets/vest designs you like for back support if you have time in a future video (or like, in the comments here, whatever works!) 💚
I fully wish I had a comfortable work-a-day corset instead of my bras. bras never sit right on me and dig into my skin even if they do fit me. One day I will make myself a nice, fitted, comfortable, daily wear corset
I'm 💯 a bra person but that's because I need a lot of support in the chest area. But, I do find the vest very interesting, especially since I could do with some back support, as well. I guess I'm off to esty 😆
I lost it at the song 😂 this is so fascinating but so funny omg thank you
Haha! Yes, these verses make even long-time folk dancers giggle at times 😬
Your characters are the best 🤣❤ and yes, Bernadette and Morgan' spirits will haunt you for not making a muckup
Omg! You're right! 🙈
5:18 As a beginner I can say that making a video before the season starts is actually very helpful. Because if I decide I want to make something similar I will have enough time to figure it out before it is the appropriate season. I am currently working on trousers for upcoming winter.
Exactly - no one covers folk costumes. This is why I've landed in a pot of gold by finding your channel - thank you for all the quality information!!
I definitely think corsets should make a comeback. Bras never give me enough support but I am too large to go without like ever.
Omg ShoutyShepherd and BoobyShepherd own my heart (as do all of your characters, your sketches are always so funny!)
Thank you! ❤️ They totally love you back. (I have a feeling that ShoutyShepherd is kind of a player, but with the heart in the right place, for what it's worth 😉)

Yep! I figured that might be the decisive factor 🤔
Yeah, I wish I didn't need to wear it, like all the time, but I often even wear a bra to sleep in. Oh those genetics!

Thank you! You’ve inspired me to research the traditional dress of my region
I see you too are a woman of culture who enjoys watching Horrible Histories.
Haha! Indeed! 🧐
@@PrettyShepherd HH is my favorite show. Never met anyone who knows it. So amazed!

This history and culture is amazing!
I wear corsets for back support. And Ive done farm chores wearing one!
I can not believe you did the shouty man!! LOVE IT!! Also, the poem is gold hahahha
I wear a nursing corset every day. The back support is very welcome and it is much more comfortable than a nursing bra.

Hello Anna,
Nice video. Love the historical aspect of it (more of it please, pretty please)
Otherwise, I have to wear a bra but more the time goes by, more I'm thinking of a corset.
Hello, and thank you! There's a third episode already in the making 😉 and I have more planned 🌿

Your hair is so awesome. Please do a tutorial on it!
Thanks for sharing! I love Swedish folk costumes! I had the good fortune to visit Stockholm once and I drooled over all the folk/history exhibits!
It’s basically the bodice of a 15th century kirtle!
Hey totally unrelated but that's a cute hairstyle! Maybe someday you can show us how to do that one? :D?
Yes! It's planned in the near future! 😉✨
@@PrettyShepherd Plis, I love it ❤
I wear a very light bra. No wires etc. But I started to wesr no bra more often.
But I realy like the idea, that a vest helps the back! I have to try that :)
Thanks for your wonderfull videos. I just searched for Swiss costumes in the library and there are a lot of books :D
Oh my God, girl, you did a horrible histories sketch 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love the video!
🐐Nay to Bras! 🧝♀️Yea to Vests! BRAVA to Corsets 🥂🍾
I love the shouty man horrible histories reference 😂😂😂
I either wear a tank top under my clothes or a sports bra. I only wear underwire bras if I'm getting dolled up for a wedding or something and the dress sits better with one.
I hate bras and I'm looking for a comfortable alternative for when going out and about. I love all of your videos
^^ ShoutyShepperd! I love it!!
loved the horrible histories reference
Love the Horrible Histories reference. LOL
Also no-bra girl here😂 thank you for sharing this video, it is hillarious, you are amazing and I've learned more about Hungarian culture in these 15 minutes than ever beforr in my life😂✨
I love your hairstyle in this video. Do you have a tutorial of it, or maybe you will make a tutorial og it in the future?
It's coming soon! (-ish) 😅
@@PrettyShepherd I'll stay tuned. Keep up the good work
😹😹I have been getting supplies to make my first Stays/corset as the bra is soo blooming hateful to wear as I’m so well ummm I’m a size E yuck but the past 10-11 years I have been wearing what is called the Ahh bra no wires no hooks and no major dis-comfort to wear😹😹😹 but alas also no support at all.
I love the vest it’s pretty I never thought of a vest being supportive before 😊 might have to have a look at it later
Love the video 🤗🤗🤗
SHOUTY Shepherd! 😂💖😂
shouty XD XD a Shepheard volt a kedvencem :,D
Definetly in the BraClub, since I have a big breast and I love wearing fitted clothing with a retro style that does not suit me well if I don’t have the magical support of a bra. Also, I own a lot of cute bras, which cost a hell lot of money because I only like expensive shit (and I always need to buy them in stores that have a bra fitting service and a variety of sizes, because I don’t fit in standard sizes), it would be a waste to not wear them. Also I get super pumped and happy knowing I own and wear such pretty and good quality underwear 😂
HI. I'M A SHOUTY SHEPHERD.
Thanks for the video! Shouty shepherd and thrifty shepherd was my favorite part ❤️
Thank you! It was so much fun playing them! 😆
Hello, i liked so much your vest, do you know where can i find a pattern or a how to made a pattern like this? Thank you
I hate bras! (Why yes, I can draft my own patterns.)
Thank you!
😂 I'm glad you enjoyed it! I also apologise to your cat. 😸
Lol this is so entertaining.
Can you do a video about how you created your new bed. The one with the blue drapery? I'm dying to do my bed that way.
such good video!!! do u have any beginner corset recommendations? i hate bras but still want some support for my back, sounds perfect!!♥︎
I would like the order form for such vest, thank you.
I hate bras I only wear them when I'm leaving the house
Sometimes not even.. 😂 I wear supportive soft brassieres or nothing.. I don’t even have small ones.. underwire bras are just the worst..
It scares me how many women hate bras so much.. I like bras
@@Yan-ri2jg What is scary about that?!
@@Yan-ri2jg it's just so unhealthy so yeah, kinda normal to not like it :)
I also live on a farm and don't like bras! Bras are suuuper uncomfortable for me but I do like how underbust corsets feel. I would love to hear about what corsets/vest designs you like for back support if you have time in a future video (or like, in the comments here, whatever works!) 💚
Definitely not a bra fan, but never have had the opportunity to try a corset or stays. I think I would prefer them.
I fully wish I had a comfortable work-a-day corset instead of my bras. bras never sit right on me and dig into my skin even if they do fit me. One day I will make myself a nice, fitted, comfortable, daily wear corset
Nice
I'm 💯 a bra person but that's because I need a lot of support in the chest area. But, I do find the vest very interesting, especially since I could do with some back support, as well. I guess I'm off to esty 😆
I could really use some more back support
Oh my god, a reference to Moldova 😭 finally 😭
I know that ikea dresser anywhere .. mainly cause I have the same one
I cant wear Bras due to chronic pain. Corssets and stays help but i dont have enough yet
❤️
