I like it a lot. It's like having EQ, comp, DI box with IR all in one pedal. Good if you don't feel like bringing too much gear to a gig. I'll get one for sure.
Yes, there is no such thing as "expanding the frequency band" or whatever. You can boost signal components in specific frequency ranges and that's it. This is 100% an EQ pedal with an on-board compressor and some knobs that set EQ, but are called differently. Also, I'm interested whether a lot of this would be doable with the B7K or the B7K ultra naturally.
Yo! Harmonic excitation is an audio signal processing technique that enhances a signal by dynamic equalization, phase manipulation, and harmonic synthesis of (usually) high-frequency signals. It also adds subtle harmonic distortion. It's much more alive than just EQ. :)
The scoop eq comes from the character knob and the graphic eq. But even if you leave both of them flat there’s still a subtle tone enhancement there. Makes your harmonics jump out more and sweetens up the tone.
What does the left footswitch do besides toggling the order of effects with a long press? Are you able to run the comp and booster individually or are they always stacked?
Typical of Darkglass to release what is basically an ultra version of the Harmonic Booster less than a year after I picked one up. I already have the Element pedal, so I don't need cab sim personally, but not including an FX loop on a pedal meant to be in front of everything (even though you could put it last to sculp the sound after everything else as well) that *also* has cab sim in it seems kind of dumb.
Hey what bass would you recommend for a 5.5ft tall guy, I have quite small hands and owned Ibanez SR300EBL and I loved it, and rocked on it for a full year as my main instrument but it seemed way too big for me. I am also left handed
I currently run my HB in the amps FX loop for better mid refinements. I’m curious how the new ultra version would do in the fx loop with all the extras it has.
You're basically the Project Farm of pedals! Great, clean playing as usual. Will you be playing live with Devin Townsend during his tour with Tesseract? My bf and I might go to the Los Angeles concert in May to see you play if you're there!
Thanks, Steffanie! James Leach will be holding down the low end on that tour. He's awesome - I've been following him since I was a teenager, after hearing his band SikTh. I hope you and your bf have fun at the concert!
I don't really get the point in having impulse responses built in to a pedal thats designed to be before other pedals. Give it an FX loop, and then it'd make sense
@@taylorhilyard8661if it's like the other Darkglass Ultras, tje. the cabsim is only on the XLR out. But I do agree this pedal lacks proper ins and outs
He makes it sound great. But Nate could plug into a coffee can and sound great. I on the other hand would need a course in sound engineering, too many knobs.
I think Nate’s style is to have the highs highlighted in his playing. But you could have just as easily tamed the highs and boosted the mids or lows if that if more your style. It’s pretty much a cool EQ with a parallel compressor in one.
Honestly I feel like this pedal just turned the B7K in to an X Ultra. As much as I love Darkglass, I feel like theyve gotten redundant and hasnt had a new or exciting idea in awhile, just a lot of rehashed ideas and reissuing of the same products over and over again
Actually, here is nothing new. Darkglass? Yes. The same Darkglass as it was pre-Covid. We need something really new. Stop selling the same gear every year. You just change names on it...

I'm not even watching these vids for the gear, I just enjoy watching Nate play!
This pedal is great but your super clean playing on the dry track really adds a lot more than i expected lol
Thanks, man! 🙏
How much this luminal
An excellent sound tool. I divided the work between several pedals. I'm thinking about going for this all-in-one solution. Great riffs again.
Definitely try it out! It packs a big punch, especially when you get into customizing the IRs. :)
Thanks for taking the time to put the awesome isolated Bass parts!
Any time! I found it particularly useful for this one. :)
I’ve been waiting for this demo. Seems like a very useful pedal
You're a good dude and I like your playing.
Thanks, man!

Seeing you play is inspiring. Even though I'm not even close as a bass player, it's always exhilarating.
Thanks, Fabio! 🙏
What's "harmonic excitation" supposed to be exactly? Sounds like a glorified scoop EQ to me. Anyone remember the BBE Sonic Maximizer?
It means EQ.

BBE sonic maximizer. I still have one in my bass rack.

I see a new nate video and I press play yo.
Thanks for keeping me employed. 🤝 You rock, bro.
Dayuuuuum 🚒🔥🚒🔥🚒🔥
Thanks, partner! 🤠

If this had an XLR out, it would've replaced my DI pedal like tomorrow
You're in luck! It has an XLR out. Sorry I missed showing that in the video... I just realized.
8'33 : what a sound!!!!
I need a 47.23" scale bass.
The best I can do is 42". 😅 www.natenavarro.net/suboctavebass
Bassist goals right there…
do you run this at the end of your chain or before all your other effects?
Typical of Darkglass to release what is basically an ultra version of the Harmonic Booster less than a year after I picked one up.

So it’s the harmonic booster with a parametric eq?
You're basically the Project Farm of pedals! Great, clean playing as usual. Will you be playing live with Devin Townsend during his tour with Tesseract? My bf and I might go to the Los Angeles concert in May to see you play if you're there!

@NateNavarro Thanks! I just checked out Sikth and some of James solo' practice work--he's a talented guy! Looking forward to the show!
It seems to work similar to an swr aural enhancer if I'm not mistaken
This is the one I was waiting for. 👌🏼
What bass is that around 3:45? Also that distortion sounds like absolute trash. Just shrieking mud.
So does this pedal work also as a multiband compressor?
I wanted to like this so bad but no fx loop to put drives etc before the cab sim is a huge oversight.
So many of their pedals would be perfect with effects loops but they just refuse
I don't really get the point in having impulse responses built in to a pedal thats designed to be before other pedals. Give it an FX loop, and then it'd make sense
Dude I was just about to post this. Cabsim so early in your chain kinda defeats the purpose of what it’s trying to accomplish imo.
@@taylorhilyard8661if it's like the other Darkglass Ultras, tje. the cabsim is only on the XLR out. But I do agree this pedal lacks proper ins and outs
Is there any reason to put it before my microtubes photon?
I would put it before the Photon more often than after, similar to the way I'm using it with the B7K at 2:55
He makes it sound great. But Nate could plug into a coffee can and sound great.
I on the other hand would need a course in sound engineering, too many knobs.
I start to waiting until nate play funk fingers
.
*Take my money!*
*When I finally get some that is.*
Those jerks keep releasing great new pedals...and now I want one. And a plexiglas thumb ramp or two.
FX loop PLEASE !!!
To my dumb ears it seem like it mostly had harsh highs. I think your dry signal sounded incredible and is a testament to your incredible playing.
I think Nate’s style is to have the highs highlighted in his playing. But you could have just as easily tamed the highs and boosted the mids or lows if that if more your style. It’s pretty much a cool EQ with a parallel compressor in one.
Definitely! You can take a more subtle approach with the high end, and EQ however you like. :)
I’d like to see this pedal yank out some death metal. That’s the most musicality one can expect
Honestly I feel like this pedal just turned the B7K in to an X Ultra. As much as I love Darkglass, I feel like theyve gotten redundant and hasnt had a new or exciting idea in awhile, just a lot of rehashed ideas and reissuing of the same products over and over again
In need of a boost pedal, but this thing seems like overkill
This is pretty much the ultra version of the Harmonic Booster. You can look into that.
Playing like that j-bass owes you 💵.
$400 is a bit too much for me,, ill pass.
It is $499.99
nani

It's interesting that so many good ideas were voiced here, but all of them clearly won't make it into songs.
wtf
How many times is this company going to release the same pedal?
That is what i am talking about!
Ever since they sold out to Korg, there has been zero innovation. Just the same designs re-released with more and more unnecessary components
