I actually didn't know who sang it originally,I remember girls aloud doing a cover of it which seemed to make it popular again. But glad I know about the original now 👍.
I can hear Gladys, Dionne, Aretha and others in this woman’s wonderful voice…What a fantastic song, and the strings and sax solo…This will still be a classic in another 40 years from now
Meh... he also said he used to provoke fights with her so he could write songs about them...... Paul Heaton summed that kind of thing up... Song for Whoever.
I’ve not listened to this in decades yet I can sing every word. I had such a crush on her. Used to love her singing with the Style Council. She will always have a special place in my heart.
Good old times,I can't forget the 80s,my old schoolmates,my first girlfriend etc.this song still touching my soul,my heart,my everything.missed the past so much(sniff!!!)
Haunting. Vividly reminds me of the days counting down to Christmas that year aged 5. No idea what she was singing about yet somehow knew totally. Magic.
Reminds me of late sister Laura I miss her so much but she loved the style council and that's where I heard of Dee c Lee she's absolutely brilliant and beautiful voice fond memories rip sis 🙏💞
She's just as good live. Saw The Style Council at Sheffield City Hall.....her voice was like silk to me, then and now. My sister was so angry as my she had two tickets and my old man did me the the only favour he's ever done....he made my sister take me to the concert rather than her boyfriend. Changed my life seeing them Live.
As far as I know she was married or with Paul Weller from the band The Style Council who she sang backing vocals..They had a child together but now separated.. Could be wrong but I'm going by memory.
Loved this sing as a kid , she went on to marry Paul Weller . Her vocals are amazing Loved her in the style Council aswel, but this is a classic, don't get why the video was banned
This is from late 1985. I'm not aware of any version of it previous to that, but it does sound almost as if it could have been done by Dionne Warwick or someone in the 60s.

The best song from 1985. Total masterpiece. This woman should have been a global star.
I soooo agree with you! She had an amazingly beautiful voice 💖
Definitely
Where is she today?

Mr Paul Wellers biggest regret ...he once said.....stunning lady and song...when music was music...long live the 80s
Eh? They were married for ten years. They have two kids. Regret that the marriage didn't last longer?
@@garrybaldy327 Ya sorry Garry...his biggest regret is that his marriage didnt last to DC.

What a silly boy
Excellent record.
This should have been number 1.
One of the best songs around.
Timeless.
Got to number 3 - behind Saving All My Love For You by Whitney Houston and I'm Your Man by Wham! - in December 1985.
@@rjjcms1 Also, better than those two songs put together.
A timeless 80's classic, just beautiful. This song will last the test of time, and its only 40 years young. ❤
What brought you here? I went down an 80s 'rabbit hole' with Martin Kemp on BBC R4 with Romesh ...😁
Just one of many beautiful and timeless classics from the 80's.
I’ve not listened to this in decades yet I can sing every word. I had such a crush on her. Used to love her singing with the Style Council. She will always have a special place in my heart.

Memories of the UK, played endlessly on radio 2, Xmas 1985
Played on Radio 1 a lot as well.
I just loved this track. Found it by 'accident'! Bless her!
I remember watching this on Top of the Pops when I was 6 years old in 1985.
Wonderful voice of a pretty-pretty woman. These are good voices!
Good old times,I can't forget the 80s,my old schoolmates,my first girlfriend etc.this song still touching my soul,my heart,my everything.missed the past so much(sniff!!!)
I can't really think of a better ballad than this. Not just her voice but the orchestral accompyment makes it a masterpiece.
Also,dust in the wind from kansas,too,if you agree(greetings from greece)such a similar song!!!@gaskellr44
This conjures so many feelings from a moment in time.. Truly haunting... and uplifting.. and frozen in time.
Jeez…….!!! Just grabs you from the heart & takes your breath away !
I love her voice. She so really very beautiful. She is singing to her husband, this song breaks my heart.
When we were young! So many memories. Pleasure and pain
Amazing, nostalgic and timeless.
Haunting. Vividly reminds me of the days counting down to Christmas that year aged 5. No idea what she was singing about yet somehow knew totally. Magic.
Same with me, except I was 6. Top of the Pops was a bit deal in those days, essential family viewing.
Beautiful song and what a voice!

This is so true... Even the title is so 007...
And she would make a perfect bond girl.
Spot on
It's got something of that about it. The London backdrop in the video probably adds to it.

I wonder how she felt about Girls Aloud doing this song. It has such a Burt Bacharach/Hal David (RIP) vibe to it.
What a chanter excellent

Yes it's the original DC Lee wrote it. Number 3 UK Charts November 1985.

This lady wrote the song and sang it like it was one of the greatest Standards, ballad wise...and it was and is.
The melody of this is similar to Jerry Goldsteins score for psycho 2 1983
People who didn't like this haven't any taste
This voice is gorgeous but the videographer did you bad girl. You are a queen....you needed better lighting and concept
😪
You can tell SHE was a part of George Michael's Wham!..the first opening bars of the sound like a George track 🎹😒
Hoi, schat
Is she single? 😊
Ah, 1980s slow sets.....probably banned now.
Shhesh
No offence to Paul Weller but he was really punching with this woman! She could have had anyone. Plus Paul isn’t rumoured to be nice guy either.
That's full of jealous hate as that's all conjecture n speculation
She can do with a Dolphin.
