Me too except I did know it - I recognised the riff straight away but hadn't heard it since the 70s and almost wept to hear it again. A Wiki search told me Andy Fraser had left us - so sad. Was there another band that had so much funk while being so laid back?
Wow, too funny. I got here after watching episode 5 of Devs on Hulu. I played the intro and end to that show and thought “I vaguely remember this” . Damn it was over 40 years ago. Love Free. This version is ok but I like the studio version better. I wish they would have played this one live back in the day.
Quite nice to see Paul Rodgers perform this great song, which takes me back to some golden memories of my youth. Free had this enormous capacity to take their time and find just the right amount of subtlety and taste, and it didn't hurt to have the finest singer of their generation on the vocals and lyrics. What a thrill it must be to back this music legend on a pristine number such as this.
I agree. Not bad for a guy who would've been 62 when this was filmed. I'm struggling to think of a vocalist who's still got this much left in the tank at that age.
@@brianorakpohit I'm a big Judas Priest fan. The first album I ever bought with my own money was Screaming For Vengeance. That out of the way, I don't think Rob Halford's voice aged as well as Paul's. Just so it's clear, I'm comparing them with themselves when they were younger. Rob's style is far more demanding vocally though. So, it's probably not a fair comparison.
i've been loving bad co since the 80s, and had never heard this free song until about a month ago. it's one of the few songs i can remember loving from the first listen. so, so great!
Amazing !!! Beautiful !!! Perfect !!!! A song that makes you think everything in the universe is beautiful and good, and everything is gonna be just fine, but not ..... unfortunately.
Man, there are so many greaaat FREE songs, but this one is my all-time favorite!!! I can't believe they never performed it live!! That blows me away! I used to play it acoustic and I'd cry from the beauty of the writing and the feel of the piece! This rivals the studio cut for quality. So, if I had called out "Oh, I Wept" at his concert in the nineties he'd have had to shrug his shoulders, "Sorry, mate, never played it live before." Wow!!!
Declare57 Paul has forgotten but Free did play it live. There is a live recording on UA-cam from Switzerland I think. Uploaded by Andy Watts I think. They also played it live at Croydon for Free Live but Koss had broken a string and kept going out of tune so it is still in the can.
You wont be disappointed Richard. I flew back to Scotland to see the Deborah Bonham Band on Saturday night and they were awesome as usual. Debbie going to try and get me guest tickets for the Glasgow gig!
The guitarist is amazing. he completely captures the spirit of Kossoff, but some people just don't seem to get it..would love to book these guys a few weeks of studio time and see what comes out :-)
I've been waiting for ages lad,They are not getting any younger and we need to see those 3 founders on the same stage again and i wont mind anyone on the guitar.
It was apparently also played at the Isle of Wight Festival. It is not included in the incomplete soundboard recording of the gig, but it can be heard being played in the background during some interview taken with someone (I forgot whom) at the festival. It's in this documentary about the festival, "Message of Love".
Wonderful. The guitarist recreates that very special rhythm guitar playing of the studio recording very well. Paul Rodgers is not right however, Free did play the song live at least twice in Switzerland in 1969 or 1970. The recordings are available here on UA-cam.
John 11:35 “Jesus wept.” Ecclesiastes 7:3 “Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.” Blessings family...
Hi, I hope everyone will excuse me for trying to get some free publicity on such a great video post,:Deborah's band are playing at this year's Free Convention and if you visit 'The Annual Free Convention' facebook page this provides details of this year's Convention on 8,11.2014 in the North East of England and supports the Willow Animal Sanctuary a. Thank you for allowing this here
The album version on Fire and Water has the lyrics as "silver tears" and "I did not have to be so unkind". ua-cam.com/video/ygKCRB_Yrwo/v-deo.html The live versions from Switzerland linked under Ben Thomas's comment have "silly tears" but then "did not have" rather than "did not care".
Free have a very small window of oportunity to reform and make/remake whatever they want to of their music before its too late. The closest guitarist i've heard to Koss's tone is Joe Bonamassa, though as my guitartutor told me Kossoff is easy to copy , its just the vibrato that'll take you the rest of your life to master!! However enough of my rambling, they should do it, Paul, Andy, Simon with Joe. Queen did it with Paul!! There is an unfinished story here to be told....
This and heavy load. Both brilliant Free songs
I could listen to Free songs 24/7.
The best ever song, Paul Rodgers timeless and way way before it's time!
That's my favourite price to pay too.
@@kiriakoz F.Y.I ... . Free was the name of Paul Rodgers first band.
Me too ..Paul Rodgers is the best can't ever get tired of his music great song one after another like a factory of melody's...and blues.
One of my favorite songs by FREE! Sung with brilliance and emotion by the best Lead Vocalist EVER! (And ably assisted by D. Bonham!)
Lead here by the end of episode 5 of DEVS. Never heard the song prior to that. Glad to hear the vocal is untouched by time.
Same experience!
Me too!!! I love it!!

Same. I was blown away by hearing a new Free tune I had never heard before!
Good Lord Paul Rodgers has got to be the best rock singer ever. Brilliant 🤩
That brought a big wet tear to my eye, God I miss Free.

It seems as if Paul's voice hasn't changed since 1970. Unbelievable! Thanks for sharing. And I believe that's John Bonham's sister!
I agree. Not bad for a guy who would've been 62 when this was filmed. I'm struggling to think of a vocalist who's still got this much left in the tank at that age.
IMHO.....Best rock voice of all time.
@@mifune9634 how about Rob Halford?

Koss wrote the music for this one. And it’s one of my absolute favorite Free tunes. Love you Koss
I watch this video once a day. Sometimes 2 or 3 times. Historic stuff. To hear this being played in 2012 is wonderful.
Devs brought me here.......I soooo fking love this song!
thank you for this mazing memories of being back at leeds polytechnic 1970's - paul rodgers still amazing voice!!!

Paul really exploded at 5:20.Greatest rock/soul vocalist I've ever heard
Classic Free, brilliantly performed
This is freakin awesome!!!!

Soundtrack of my youth, seen Free 3 times live and they are unsurpassed.
I guess whom ever was running lights had never heard this song before...One of my favourite ever songs.
Paul Rogers, still the official voice of rock n roll.
...but spelled right.
my favorite free track. PR is a legend. Greatest set of pipes in R&R by a long way. Guitarist does a great job here too!
Not a patch on Koss!

Declare57 Sorry it is Andy Watson and not Watts
Declare57 In fact there are 2 live versions on here by Mr Watson. Live in Geneva and Live in Lausanne
I freakin' love his voice..Ready For Love sends me into orbit!
my good lord Paul and Deborah....
great job Peter...Koss was smiling down when you were playing his riff...
many thanks for these "unused" title - hope for all fans that Paul Rodgers is still a few years on tour ...
great song !!...long live Kossof
Just a great song
Quite superb - a privilege to be there!
seen paul rodgers here in melbourne australia in april 2001 he was brilliant
Great post , Raymond ! Many thanks for this gem .
Nothing beats a Gibson Les Paul. That sound is incredible. Makes a Strat or Tele sound feeble
Great!
absolutely stoked. Going to see these guys in May at the RAH.

Love love love it!
Magical!!!

I discovered two, online, 1970, Free-concert recordings, at different Switzerland venues, of: “Oh, I Wept”.

great guitar
AWESOME !
Awesome!!!
great song
Melt my pain away that's me done
It's Great to see Paul haS KEPT HIS FEET FIRMLY O LIFE'S GROUND...
A credit to the co-composer, the late and often forgotten Paul Kossoff with that opening Emaj.......F#m7 .......Gmaj7 chord progression....
It's weird they never played this song live until now, this has always been one of my favourites by Free... But this still lacks Fraser and Koss...
That guitar player has been touched by Koss.

Immense
Paul fuckin Rodgers
Song was called With Our Love. I've also posted the footage of it on youtube.
🔥❤
fuck me sideways n I got two tickets
who found this in a search that would give a downvote? Did not know brittney fans would find this
Who am I to contradict the man himself. However Eden Park Hotel 1970 I'm almost
sure they did that song.
Still miss Koss 🎶

Paul’s voice is great, although the guitarist is playing the intro slightly wrong
was an awesome night......btw what was the song with the guy playing Sitar
I am not sure that Koss would mind John Bonhams sister being on stage :-)
the "I did not care to be so unkind" line utilizes the use of paradox to the extent that it is rendered senseless. great song though
The version on Fire and Water says "did not have to be so unkind" which makes a lot more sense.
its so subtle. it's: der do dar,de doo de dar / der do dar,de doo de dar. mustard

I’m not surprised what happened to free they were far too young basically teenagers...
Poor Koss died at 25...didn't even make it into the 27 club.
The most souful rock singer of them all....
John Bonham's ex-wife?
John Bonham's sister Dan.
Sister
Paul Rogers always wearing white and black on stage.
No He Doesnt...
He gets his style from Johnny Cash. Sort of...?
