  • GODDARD CADDIS
John Henry Goddard and Cliff came to this design after spending hours watching the silhouette of a "sedges" name that is also known to fly Caddis in England.
It's a particular design fly, so much so that it is one of the most recognizable models from dry fly fishing in the world. Patagonian trout have not escaped its charm and besides that the Goddard Caddis or G & H Sedge is a fly that has great benefits for the novice fisherman in the subtle techniques of fishing with dry flies. It has an enormous flotababilidad which makes it something almost unsinkable, freeing the fisherman technique refined lance ... although Goodard fall ill or violent water it floated equally ... is a very easy pattern seen on the surface of the water which late in the afternoon during mass hatching is priceless !.
The Goddard is an imitation adult caddis that can be used in rough water without any problem, but becomes somewhat "awkward" when we need subtle, beyond all the Goddard has an almost unique feature among caddis imitations and is the great ability to form contrails in the water and how great it is to make skate on the surface thereof. For all this it is not the model I advise when we are faced with complex situations ultra selective trout ... but is an ideal fly when we "play" with the fish in the water surface. One thing is sure: A G & H Sedge never goes unnoticed!

Beautiful fly. Great music to match such a classic pattern too. The Goddard caddis is a wonderfully simple looking fly but the correct profile can be a challenge. Ruben you make it look so easy. I always struggle with the first clump of hair at the hook gap. The tips always hang up on the bend and I fail to get a good spin. Usually I let go with my left hand to try and free them up and then lose tension and the hair goes everywhere but on the shank. I liked how you teased the tips into spinning with your bodkin. I'm going to try that. Thanks so much Ruben.

Really nice tie of the Goddard Caddis. That caddis was actually created by two men Mr. Goddard and His friend. I cannot, of course remember his name now, but it was originally called the G&H Sedge after the initials of the two men in Britain that had created it. When the fly came to the U.S. it was given to a magazine writer by John Goddard and was dubbed the "Goddard caddis" and it has stuck. I just thought that was interesting. Very well made. Love your video's keep them coming. I particularly like to watch a fly being tied to classical music. All the best, and God Bless. Sean
