I had absolutely no idea this was a thing people did and I have absolutely no idea why this video was recommended to me however I am amazed by this, it must take so much precision and concentration and for that I admire you
I tied flies with my grandfather when I was a little boy. It was a blast when i left the army i decided to give it another go but i can't use a fly rod so i stopped. I still love watching it being done it's very soothing.
When I saw the quality of the wing and how you used the resin top trick, I thought “This man is talented AND he has a big brain”. always so incredible and educational. Thank you.
The ones who tie flys are such great artists and so creative!! I only tie simple Crappie jigs but really admire and love watching fly ties! Awesome job!
Perfect patience - delicate way of tying. With technical flies like this one, I definitely need to learn your patience and calmness without being frustrated with so many elements in the way.
Excellent use of UV resin! I’ve been fly tying/fishing as a hobby for quite a while now, and have never seen it used this way! I can’t wait to attempt to replicate this. Keep up the great content!
Thats some seriously next level fly tying. Looks absolutely astonishingly nice. Love your work. It is addictive watching fly tying, but this delicate fly is definitely next level. Without doubt one of the better videos I've seen. I dont know how long it would really last, but looks truly wicked.
By far one of the videos that I enjoy watching the most. Thank you very much Bender, with winter just around the corner I am going to rewatch many of your vids......may even hook the vise to the table. Lol.
No lie, I'm pretty new to tying, but your ties are what I push myself to achieve. I keep trying with all the false self confidence in the world and they look like Frankenstein's monster. Love the content and I appreciate the challenge and beautiful flies.

I never thought my fly tying hero was an Oldham lad, me from Royton,Rochdale, Portugal, now Manila, to finish my years off at 78 years fly tying.. great videos, thank you.
3 decades ago i was lucky enough to send some time tying and fishing with Wally Lutz. The Wally Wing was truly an innovation in the tying world for duns and spinners. Another pattern Wally invented was a double winged caddis which I helped named the "no-brainer." Is that pattern on UA-cam? If not I'll tie and post Wally's pattern. I have a few other patterns he showed me while fishing. Several are single material and extremity effective.

You’ve got a lot of patience and precision applying the materials. Lovely pattern. I’m not a fan of CDC though .... do you sometimes use hackle or something else instead of the CDC fibers ?
This is a beautiful fly and I’m going to take a swing at trying to tie it. My one question is how does it hold up after a catch? It seems like a very delicate fly and I would imagine a trout would destroy it, no? My plan is to tie this and display it in my tying room if I get anywhere close to the way you tied it. Breathtaking fly, incredible tying, and thank you for posting this.
Hi Ryan, thanks. They hold up enough for a couple of fish, so I don't mind that as I tie a lot of them. Its only practice so take your time and try and find good mallard flank. Good luck!
Barry what I do when I work with that poly for that purpose is to put a drop of UV on the tip so I don't have stray fibers to deal with. It's an extra step but not having to fiddle with stray fibers while working with the other materials, Now to go tie some BWO size 24 in this style, I think the Wally wing might be the easy part! One of these days I should come to Norway to fish for a bit and maybe drink some single malt.
Very Cool Man! I just started fly fishing and am going to practice lots to get better. I want to tie my own Flies like this, and you really did a nice video! Nice footage, crystal clear filming, and good audio! Thank you very much for sharing!
So, yesterday I attempted this. was a struck of beginners luck. Today I had it almost done but couldn't wip finish the head. To much material or to little of a hook. Or both. Needless to say that bug went to the garbage and another one will be the 3rd attempt in a couple of days from now. Still a little pissy about that last one. You tie hard flys my friend. Little envious. But love the challenge. Thanks for upping my skills! Cheers!
Hi, definitely too much material, as you can tie this on many hook sizes... If you start your tying thread 2-3 mm behind the hook eye you can use this mark as a finishing point before you whip finish, you'll have enough room. Proportions and getting them right come with practice and repetitive tying over time. Keep doing what you are doing and you will get there... Good luck
So realistic. I will try this one . I just started tying and tried the double wing mayfly which is tied completely out of one Mallard flank, but yours looks so much more realistic that I've just got to try. Thank for the tutorial!
Hi Barry, this fly is excellent !!! You have shown us a great kind of tying !!! .... I am a great admirer of yours and I hope to ever tie something similar to what you tie ... I ask you how long the wings have and how can I measure it in the duck feather ... is 1 1/2 the gap? or 3/4 or 1 length of the shank? Thank you very much!!
Hi Ferrer, Thank you. The wings should be about the same length as the hook shank. Make the wings larger and you can trim them down to the correct size afterwards.
So pretty! I love this fly alot, although I dont know how you manage to split the wings so evenly.... true god of fly tying (I am a beginner and I'm very amused by your videos)

Question: Is there some sort of light spray that you can use to help preserve these beautiful flies?
