Brazilian here, just to clarify a bit, we were big into NeoGeo arcades, not the console. The console was quite the fail here, it was overly expensive, like the 3DO (my first console lol). But the arcades, hell yeah, King of Fighters reigned supreme nearly everywhere
As a matter of fact, I cannot recall a single person here owning a Neo Geo-based console. Neo Geo was popular in arcades, but their consoles were hard to find and also lacked the popularity and the appeal of Nintendo and Sega devices.
@@l-2112 also, they were expensive AF. A Sega Genesis could cost almost a third of monthly national minimum wage, but a Neo-Geo could easily be priced at two-thirds!
Arcades games were popular in Brazil, specially SNK fighting games. Like the Master System and Mega Drive, companies would make exclusive arcade games for Brazil, like the racing game Slipstream from Capcom.

Hello. Voz do Gibi here. Lady Decade, the Brazilian games market at that time is what I can call a survivor and hero. There was huge inflation at the time. Only people with good financial conditions had access to their own video game consoles. Even though we have greater access to games today, those times are still missed. It was when we made friends and everything seemed golden.
Amazing dive into the Tec Toy history here in Brazil. One misconception that people commit though, is to believe that Tec Toy/Sega consoles were more popular than Nintendo systems in Brazil. What happened is that Sega had a representative/manufacturer (Tec Toy) that released the Master System, Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn and Dreamcast officialy in Brazil, only later Nintendo had the same treatment (Playtronic, a joint venture between the toy manufacturer called Estrela and eletronic manufacturer called Gradiente). When Playtronic started to produce the Nintendo consoles in Brazil, Tec Toy already had the majority of the official market. But in the unnoficial one, Brazilians addopted in a much bigger scale, the Nintendo consoles. It was much, much easier to find someone with a Famiclone, than a Master System, same with Snes and Genesis, though, the sales gap wasn't as brutal as the 8 bit consoles. Just saying because non-brazilian youtubers has a wrong vision that Brazil adopted Sega systems as their favorite systems, and that it's simply hasn't happened, which doesn't mean that we don't have a special and nostalgic place in our minds for Tec Toy and their initiatives.

Great video! I loved hearing you say “Férias Frustradas do Pica-Pau”. I also had no idea that "Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum" had been launched on the Master System.
Nice video, I'm Brazilian but I didn't knew there's so many games exclusive here. There's also some missing like two master system game from Monica's Gang (A turma da Mônica) That were hacks from Wonderboy games so they're very good games and some other like this rom hacks that only changed sprites
Great video! As a brazillian myself, it is very accurate indeed. It's only missing "Turma da Mônica e o Castelo do Dragão". A Wonder Boy adaptation from Tectoy. Thanks!
I played most of these games, and I must say that "Ferias Frustradas do Pica pau" was, indeed, a challenge (beautiful graphics for a 8bit game... but, what a messy control!) I also missed "turma da Monica" games, even though I am aware that most of them were hacks of "Wonder boy" games. I just love them (since I've became aware of this info as an adult, I never understood why Monica faces a dragon in a game! It was fun but make no sense).
One of my favourite consoles I got in 2023 was Tectoy's latest in the Master System Evolution. It's just a console with a little guy (Sonic) that lives on a blue consoles, and all day and all night and everything connected is blue. The console is blue. Da ba dee da ba di Song aside, it's fun to play a lot of those old Master System classics again, the original titles, the various reskins for Brazil, and the various titles that though they may be called "ports" of Genesis or Amiga titles are actually closer to "demakes" in a way.
Tectoy didn't stopped, it's because Brazil still is a third world country, even with all the technology, the options are still expensive for a lot of us, and Tectoy got this public. But today became a nostalgic product too, a lot persons buy the "new" version of Mega Drive or Master system for collection.
I had no idea there was a SMS version of Virtua Fighter Animation! It looks basically the same as the Game Gear version, which we did get outside Brazil (but the Game Gear has lower resolution).
Street Fighter story is curious, they wanted to do a port for MS but don't got the permission but he developed anyways because they had a plan, then when someone from Capcom was going to inspect how the port to the Mega Drive was going, he hide the console and showed the MS port, they didn't liked at first because it was lacking for the Mega Drive and then he revealed that the game was running at the MS, they got so impressed that gave permission for the project to continue in a instant lol.
Ren & Stimpy having a Brazilian exclusive Master System game is kinda funny because the show itself wouldn't get dubbed and aired in the country until around 1999 or 2000,so they released a game based on a cartoon that the local audiences would only get to see years later(I played multiple Ren & Stimpy games in the 90's myself without even be aware they came from a cartoon, Then came the cartoon and I recognized it as "the characters from those games i played")
One detail, Master System won NES here in Brazil, was my first console, i just discovery who is Mario when SNES arrived, and after this i discovery NES and their pirates that was famous here too, but i didn't know that it was pirate, the famous Phantom System that some friends had. Tectoy was massive, was everywhere, but when SNES arrived the things changed, Mega Drive was popular, but Nintendo won at final, but the Tectoy made the history here, exist a world before and after Tectoy.
Sega consoles have an unusual track record when it comes to popularity. The mega drive failed in Japan was more successful in Europe and South America.
Those times were wild. Something could be a big hit in some part of the world and completely flop on another. TecToy's partnership with Sega Japan worked better than Sega Japan with Sega US. 🤣
When any gaming channel talks about my country you know what is coming. A lot of late SMS games are GG ports but fortunately with a higher resolution. A lot of these games are actually much more playable because of that. Ren & Stimpy being exclusive to here is a thing I never understood since the cartoon never aired here. Nevertheless I had lots of fun with it. And lastly, I'm amazed to see a game I've never heard of before, didn't knew this Little Mermaid game.
It seems that most of the games were back ports from Genesis/MegaDrive and CD or from the Game Gear. Which made Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum the most interesting since it was an actual exclusive title.
@@Josep_Hernandez_Lujan And? This has no relevance to my comment, and I was, in fact, aware of this. Ease of portability doesn’t make it any less a port, this level of back porting from Game Gear to Master System just means their libraries had even more overlap in Brazil.
I'm Brazilian, love your channel. I've played since Atari 2600+, the 8bit and 16bit era, but knew none of those exclusive Brazilian games/ports, hehe. Regarding the key titles, we used to play them in the original versions: Battletoads -> NES; ECCO Dolphin -> Mega Drive/Genesis; Earthworm Jim -> Mega Drive/Genesis; Mortal Kombat -> SNES and Mega Drive/Genesis. The reason for those adaptation/ports of games is because Brazil has always been a poor country / high inflation, so people didn't have money to move on to 16bit era quickly. That's why Tec Toy company made those "creative" solutions. But Ladddyyyyyy Deccaaaaadeee, you missed the mossssttt important port/adaption title for the Master System: "Monica no Castelo do Dragão" (Monica's in Dragon's Lair/Castle, in free translation), a simple sprite adaptation of Wonder Boy. That was one of the biggest Non-Nintendo Adventure/RPG's for 8bit. Its based on the "Turma da Monica" HQ characters, by Mauricio de Souza ("Monica's Gang", in the exported english american version of the HQ). Please do a part 2 sequence of the video, just to cover this title, please! We'd be very honored !
Even with the launch of 32-bit consoles, Many children from the lower classes played Master System in Brazil because they were unable to buy a PlayStation, N64 and Sega Saturno, and even though Sega abandoned the Master System, Tec Toy gave the Master System a lifeline by producing and porting games from the game. gear for the master system, the lower class still played master system, tec toy produced games for the master system and also mega drive, tec toy managed to make a profit giving the master system and also the mega drive a survival...
Master System III was my first console, very glad to see it mentioned here :') I was to young to really remember what I played there and also if it really was I who was controlling the character (as it was very common for older brothers and dads to give childs an unconnected controller haha)
My first video game. Sega and Tec Toy partnership was really successful because of Tec Toy tremendous efforts. There was a TV show with game tips, and localization gave another level of gameplay for most non english speakers kid of my generation. Phantasy Star was a game I was able to beat just because such localization. Great memories.
This video makes me yearn for a video on quality unlicensed / "bootleg" games. There were some real gems released in places like Taiwan and South Korea, where official regional support just didn't exist for a while.
SMS Battlemanic I notice those levels. It's a port of the SNES game! I know those levels, seen it before. I actually beat that game. Didn't know there was a SMS port only for Brazil. I must say it looks good for a port of a SNES sequal to Battetoads.
Lady Decade, my dear. I have to mention that Castelo Ra-tim-bum is indeed based upon a tv show for kids of the same name. And that it is a sequel of another kids tv show called just Ra-tim-bum… A necessity for a gracious living ;)
Because of the high taxes on imports at 90s in Brazil, so we had to change the names of the games and change the skins to say that they are exclusive national games, so the tax was much lower. and by the way, it's a shame there aren't many Indian women (or descendants) in Brazil, you all are soo beautiful.
You forgot to mention the reskins of popular games, such as Chapolim, Mônica and Sapo Xulé. These were very popular (I owned both Mônica games and had no idea Wonder Boy even existed)
I will never forget all the times that I stared at a Sonic Blue Master System on a shop everytime that I passeed by that store to see if someone bought it yet(my dad never bought it to me but someone did to themselves),it was like.....2009 I guess? (you can still find it on sale on the Tectoy site :D ) IT PROBABLY WASN'T COMMMON TO BE ON SALES YET ON THAT ERA(there was only one model on sale btw)

Thanks!
From the top of my head you missed Sonic Blast, Ristar and Sítio do Pica-pau Amarelo, based on famous books for children and also TV shows.
SMS really got the love that deserved from the Brazilian fans. Thanks for the video!❤
I played most of these games, and I must say that "Ferias Frustradas do Pica pau" was, indeed, a challenge (beautiful graphics for a 8bit game... but, what a messy control!)
I also missed "turma da Monica" games, even though I am aware that most of them were hacks of "Wonder boy" games.
Da ba dee da ba di
Song aside, it's fun to play a lot of those old Master System classics again, the original titles, the various reskins for Brazil, and the various titles that though they may be called "ports" of Genesis or Amiga titles are actually closer to "demakes" in a way.
Yes, it's true, in Brazil you can buy a brand new Master System today if you want to. I live here and even I find that hard to believe.
Tectoy didn't stopped, it's because Brazil still is a third world country, even with all the technology, the options are still expensive for a lot of us, and Tectoy got this public. But today became a nostalgic product too, a lot persons buy the "new" version of Mega Drive or Master system for collection.
Thanks lady Decade, is good to see a great video like this about our game market!
Very nice. We had a game Brazil exclusive. Calls: turma da Monica, of Master System
Also, i always get the feeling the show isn't that popular here
One detail, Master System won NES here in Brazil, was my first console, i just discovery who is Mario when SNES arrived, and after this i discovery NES and their pirates that was famous here too, but i didn't know that it was pirate, the famous Phantom System that some friends had. Tectoy was massive, was everywhere, but when SNES arrived the things changed, Mega Drive was popular, but Nintendo won at final, but the Tectoy made the history here, exist a world before and after Tectoy.
16:00 of course there’s gotta be a FIFA game exclusive to Brazil.
And New Zealand
A video I was looking for a long time, I wish I could see you more wear this Brazilian football shirt too ;) , thanks a lot for the video :)
Is so cute you're saying the Brazilian names. Thanks for this video ❤
A tectoy até hoje comercializa o Master. Saudações brasileiras minha amiga.
Majority of this list are ports from off other consoles - but well done Tec Toy & Brazil for making the Master System it's own for many many years (Y)
Ren e Stimpy passou na TV a cabo
Those ports existed in europe, too. The games mentioned here not.
@@napoleonfeanor yeah, I know. But some of them are still GG ports.
@@Negostrike nunca vi 😅 só conhecia por causa desse jogo
It seems that most of the games were back ports from Genesis/MegaDrive and CD or from the Game Gear. Which made Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum the most interesting since it was an actual exclusive title.
The GG was basically a handheld Master System. Ports were easy between them
@@Josep_Hernandez_Lujan And?
And wow, you are a truly ninja expert on Video Game History, for finding all those specific Brazilian versions, which I knew none.
im From Brasil, thanks for post this Video.
Brazil had all the fun.
Olha ai a gente na gringa fazendo sucesso, NICE VÍDEO! ♥🇧🇷
Even with the launch of 32-bit consoles,
Many children from the lower classes played Master System in Brazil because they were unable to buy a PlayStation, N64 and Sega Saturno, and even though Sega abandoned the Master System, Tec Toy gave the Master System a lifeline by producing and porting games from the game. gear for the master system, the lower class still played master system, tec toy produced games for the master system and also mega drive, tec toy managed to make a profit giving the master system and also the mega drive a survival...
Your voice have a sound relaxing, this is cool... i like the video... congrats!
The Portuguese pronunciation can be complicated but you nailed it! :P Great content, love it..
"Castchelo rrrá - tchim - boom" .. I loved this pronunciation LOL .. subscribed !!
Cheers lol I'm awful at trying to pronounce things properly lol I butcher everything 😭
@@LadyDecade dont worry It was cute
Master System III was my first console, very glad to see it mentioned here :')
I was to young to really remember what I played there and also if it really was I who was controlling the character (as it was very common for older brothers and dads to give childs an unconnected controller haha)
Que legal! Dá para fazer uma parte 2. Ficaram faltando alguns jogos como Mônica no Castelo do Dragão.
Acho que não em cara, pois esse jogo é apenas uma romhack do jogo wonder boy
Nice video !!
Mega Drive and MSX computer… I still have both !!
I am from Brazil those games are amazing i played them a lot thanks for document them.
New Lady Decade video, a necessity for gracious living.
Great Stuff, as always! Merry Christmas!
2:08 hearing you say "annals" got me excited!
Cool video, greetings from Brazil
Show de bola minha amiga
Eu tenho um Master System desse na minha coleção 🕹️🎮😘 ALÔ TEC TOY
Ah, the relationship between the mighty Master System and Brazil is quite an interesting one.
Great video! His pronunciation of the words wasn't that bad. lol
Impressionante como o vídeo, título, thumbnail, tudo em conjunto, por si só é bem chamativo.
A SEGA Master System to a Brazilian Gamer: A necessity for gracious living.
One detail: The Tec Toy translated to portuguese the RPG Phantasy Star. This slot Master System game in portuguese was selled only in Brazil.
Love you from Brasil!
That was so fun. Thank you!
Brazil Mentioned
There was a European/Australasian version of Ecco the Dolphin on SMS
That Mickey Mouse one looks really good... Gonna have to look into finding the ROM files for these.
I'd be curious if there are any undumped Brazilian exclusives.
@@TheVHSReviver you think it might be on vimm’s lair?
happy christmas from Brazil !
I'm from Brazil! I played this video game a lot! It was great!
This video makes me yearn for a video on quality unlicensed / "bootleg" games. There were some real gems released in places like Taiwan and South Korea, where official regional support just didn't exist for a while.
As a brazilian I Fell ashamed, because I never new there was a castelo Ra TI Bum game 😢 great video ❤❤❤
Brasil momento.
Muito bom!
So many quality exclusives! Did not expect that.
🇧🇷🥳🇧🇷🥳🇧🇷 BRAZIL MENTIONED!!! 🇧🇷🥳🇧🇷🥳🇧🇷
Because of the high taxes on imports at 90s in Brazil, so we had to change the names of the games and change the skins to say that they are exclusive national games, so the tax was much lower. and by the way, it's a shame there aren't many Indian women (or descendants) in Brazil, you all are soo beautiful.
Castelo Rá-tim-bum is GOTY kk, i love your vídeos 🎉😊
There's also Wonder Boy 3 being rebranded as a Turma da Mônica game.
So cute you saying “Castelo Rá Tim Bum”… you can think about “Boom Boom Pow Castle” and you should see the original TV show that is awesome.
You forgot to mention the reskins of popular games, such as Chapolim, Mônica and Sapo Xulé. These were very popular (I owned both Mônica games and had no idea Wonder Boy even existed)
DOuble Dragon with 2 players was a dream for children of that era :D
I will never forget all the times that I stared at a Sonic Blue Master System on a shop everytime that I passeed by that store to see if someone bought it yet(my dad never bought it to me but someone did to themselves),it was like.....2009 I guess? (you can still find it on sale on the Tectoy site :D )
IT PROBABLY WASN'T COMMMON TO BE ON SALES YET ON THAT ERA(there was only one model on sale btw)
