@@plantedinthegarden very useful. I built a downspout hydroponic garden in a 2x4 grow tent. What I'm finding most difficult is keeping the water clean and figuring out nutrients. Your videos are very peaceful and enjoyable to watch and learn from. Please keep them coming.
@@jerfguy You can probably use a simple aquarium "can" filter (or possibly DIYing this) for keeping things in check, provided algae aren't taking over.

Hello, thank you for the excellent video. But I have a question: Do you put an oxygen pump inside a container for making compost tea? Or do you not put an oxygen pump just the ingredients and water and leave it for 24 hours and use it? Ok, I took enough of it from the rest of the compost tea. Does it remain in the same container in which it was made until the time for use comes and add it to the hydroponic plant? . I have another question: How much do you add again to the hydroponic system of compost tea? Is it the same amount that is estimated from tea to 5 amounts of water? Is it possible to grow using the Karakti system without an oxygen pump for the plant, and will it grow and bear fruit? Thank you very much and I hope you can answer every question🥰🌹
It is Great video. For me who is thinking to start grow indoor. It is very inspiration because I was a bit worried about the chemical which using in normal hydroponic system 🙂 Do you give the plants something else more? or only these your own natural liquid nutrients.
Hydroponics can seem intimidating, but once you start it gets easier. I've been experimenting with natural nutrients and this seems to work well for what I'm growing. I'm looking to try and add other ingredients like banana peel and egg shells.

I didn't ever known you can do this legitimately yourself and very naturally as well. Air pumping though will probably set you back even more than some decent grow lights though.
We didn't know either until we started researching. We used to buy liquid nutrients, then experimented with making our own naturally and the plants did even better. We keep experimenting to find the best solution too. The initial investment cost money, but we feel it's well worth it. The amount of food you can grow through the years will make up for it.
@@plantedinthegarden Exactly, personally I am making the best of many systems at once. So I am doing "sorta" like a dual root setup myself with vermicomposting thrown in. Low tech, very low budget needed, etc.
I found this video when searching for homemade organic nutrient solution to use in a kratky system. Do you think the "brew" will be ok to use in a system without aeration, for short-term plants like leafy greens? (I'm trying to use as little electricity as possible.) I'd aerate during the making, just not after the plants are in it.
I use it in a Kratky system and in DWC the brew seems find. But I have it set up in my garage for the winter which keeps the water cold.
Hey mate, I have a very large worm farm and produces many litres of worm juice every day which leaks out the bottom into a bucket. Can you recommend an amount that I might add to my 5 gallon bucket?
Do your compost worms need to be kept at a certain temperature? I live in Canada, and I wonder if i could keep the worms in the garage or shed over Winter, or if this would kill them...Please let me know.

The air is just recycled out into the garage and then back into the tent. I don't have a CO2 tank. I hope you get to start a garden💚

When using a hole saw, run the drill in reverse it'll still cut but won't split plastics

I love that you use an organic method to source your hydro nutrients. I have been thinking about doing the same thing on a larger scale.
I have to admit when I first started I was using the premade nutrients. I tested a few and this seems to work for me since I have worm casting readily available from my vermicompost. There's actually a ton of home made nutrients for hydroponics. That's amazing that you're planning to grow on a larger scale.
@@plantedinthegarden Me too, I didn't know you can straight up use "teas" like this hydroponically. Especially as you mentioned Krathy method can spare the absurdly expensive pumping system, making it MUCH more reasonable to run.
@@rickytorres9089 I like kratky as well. if I have to refill I only fill to 1/2 to 2/3 of the container to keep air roots. But my containers are large I don't have to add unless I am growing a fruiting plant.

Hi love your setups. I just started growing hydro. I started withthe net cups and clay. Then i tried using pool noodles which to me i like better. I started my seedligs on the clay balls but i didnt like because they just went everywhere. I see where u use dirt and just wash roots. Havent tried that. I now am doing experiment starting seedlings on cotton balls. Squash cucumber lettuce cabbage did fine but was not successful with pea seed. To wet i think got mushy. The pepper seed has not done anything. Anyways just sharing different ideas. Thx for sharing.

Would 10 gallon totes be to big for this setup? The store near me doesn't have the 3 gallon.
The video said to use 3 gallon but in the video description it has been corrected to 10 gallon bins. 3 gallon is incorrect and too small anyways.

Hello, I just have a question about your seaweed amount you said to use. You said 6 ounces per gallon of water? That’s a LOT of dry seaweed considering it doesn’t weigh much at all. for a 5 gallon bucket you’re suggesting 2 pounds of dry seaweed, though in the video, it’s CLEARLY not 2 pounds you put in there.. are you sure it isn’t 6 GRAMS of dry kelp per gallon? Say, do you change the water in you hydroponics.
I'm using the kratky method and honestly i added just enough nutrients so the water is still relatively clear as Im afraid it would cause bad bacteria to fester. Am I starving my plants??
I just ordered everything I need to make a system like this! The only question I have is how high should the water level be? I am wanting to get a floating valve so it automatically keeps the water level, but I don’t know how high to place it. Any advice @Planted in the Garden?

This might be an absolutely stupid question, as I’ve never grown DWC. When you are adding new plants to your dwc, do the nutrient levels not drop off and the seedlings have no means of getting. To the water yet? Or is that more of a problem with Kratky?
Depending on the water level and available nutrients. If the level is high enough, I will top off with a bit of water until it teaches the seedling roots. If the water is low, it’s best to change it completely
Hello I am new to the Hydroponics thing but would love to try this and be able to grow my own food year round but I have some concerns about growing food inside of plastic containers , totes etc. no one really talks about the plastic and chemicals that the plastic may put off and the plant root absorbing harmful chemicals through the roots that the plastic maybe giving off what are your concerns if any about this ?

So inspiring, this video makes me wanna start my own ondoor garden. However since I live in a hot country, during summers the temp.goes 41c , is it possible for me to grow salads lettuce and kale??

I've tried to go organic with my nutrients but had issues with root rot. any tips on how to avoid that?
Ever since I started hydroponics in the garage which is much cooler, the water has been consistently at cool temp and haven’t been dealing much with root rot. If you do have one, you can trim down the roots hairs, avoid cutting the thick roots and refreshed your nutrients. A string air pump and a decent air bubbler helps too
Root rot is just the roots asking for oxygen so either refresh your water or get more air delivery. Just like they just mentioned. :)

I would say depends on how many bins you want to set up. I use a pump with 4 outlets but I wished I went with because I ended up expanding with more bins😅 for cheap pumps you can use fish tank pumps. You can checkout my recommendations on Amazon for reference tr.ee/nbAjoFPaX5
@@plantedinthegarden Unfortunately fish pumps are not that cheap anymore. A "max" eight gallons' Mejers' very basic pump with one outlet with tubing and a very small air stone set me back almost 20 bucks...

hi can share your type of grow light
I found with the rubber made containers they can be flimsy under the weight of pots and plants after you drill holes. What i used to do to counter that issue is get the ones with seals around the lid that lock tight. I would cut a piece of lexan or acrylic sheet to fit on top of the rim of the lid, which leaves a gap between the lid and lexan sheet. To counter that gap, id run double sided tape around the rim of lid and Id spray a bit of great stuff pond and stone on the lid, clamp the lexan down to the lid putting pressure on double sided tape. The foam expands but really slowly so you drill small releif holes where your big holes will be on the lexan. Some foam will come out of it, its ok. After 24 hours you have a rigid, insulated, waterproof top. Then drill your 3 inch or whatever size holes through the lexan, foam, and lid. It wont buckle or collapse that way. It works best if you do it with the lid on and locked onto the base. Its almost like putting a 3/4 inch piece of plywood on top but waterproof

I just use the regular solution, it’s mostly a little bit of ph down solution for me
You can use BLACK coffee in any dosing to bring it down a bit. In CONTROLLED dosing, baking soda can be used for the other way around. It is a salt though so use it carefully.

Why do we need the air pump and stone if Kratky method does not need it? Can't I just put a 2" hole on opposite sides to create air flow?
