I couldn't escape this feeling with my China Girl
I'm just a wreck without my little China Girl
I hear her heart beating loud as thunder
Saw the stars crashing
I'm a mess without my China Girl
Wake up mornings, where's my little China Girl
I hear hearts beating loud as thunder
I see stars crashing down
I feel tragic like I was Marlon Brando
When I look at my China Girl
I could pretend that nothing really meant too much
When I look at my China Girl
I stumble into town just like a sacred cow
Visions of swastikas in my head
And plans for everyone
It's in the white of my eyes
My little China Girl, you shouldn't mess with me
I'll ruin everything you are
I'll give you television, I'll give you eyes of blue
I'll give you men who want to rule the world
And when I get excited
My little China Girl says
Oh baby, just you shut your mouth
She says shhhh

One of the best live versions of this song; Iggy really sings nice here
i saw iggy in nyc, new years eve, 1973 0r 74 at the academy of music on 14th - kiss was the opening act - it was the night gene simmons hair caught on fire. their first big nyc performance. anyway iggy was why i went although blue oyster cult was the main act. iggy came out in his underwear, spray painted in silver paint and dove into the crowd. damn he was amazing all sinew and energy. the stooges were in top loud form. punk hadn't happened yet. one of best memories
He kinda created punk rock. Isn't he called the 'Grandfather of Punk Rock'?. Wasn't that the Palladium then?
last man from the sacred triangle and debatably the most troubled in his prime. Love for Lou David and iggy
They were some amazing HOLY TRINITY ...At least to me as a kid !
He's always sounded really down to earth in interviews. Makes sense. Most rock stars are far more eloquent and mild mannered than their stage presence would indicate
Pure art. Excellent live version from this period of The Ig's life.
Love his voice!
Craziest person I ever saw in concert on his IDIOT TOUR with Bowie. He climbed to the top of the scaffolding in New York City's Palladium Theater and hung by his bent knees upside down near 100 feet from the stage floor. One slip and the Nazi helmet he was wearing wouldn't have helped him escape death. Bowie never moved from behind the piano the entire concert, albeit, he sang backup. Iggy was intense and tense. He was simply great that night.
Love this song...I listen to this every minute of the day.
0:40 - 1:06 is my favorite part. such a simple guitar riff but has so much beauty in it, its unforgetable.
I was a teenager listening to Iggy Pop and I can tell all you boys, it has nothing to do with his ability to sing. He has something sexy that no one else had. You gotta be female to understand what that is. He had it in spades.
He is very independent and trusts himself.
Also he wont behave like a little boy.
That makes him attractive
No shit Sherlock.
But he was no GG Allin.
@@iammrbadguy9706 Well actually, probably because he was an only child, he has some little boy traits that make him very endearing. You can see that in the interviews he gave all through his career.
Love you man but drummer is just something that I can't get enough of incredible job buddy. ❤️❤️
A brilliant song written and performed by Iggy Pop.
+Philip Lindsay Co-written by both Iggy and Bowie.
@Anderson Cooper , thanks scoop .
i cant stop listening to this song i have heard it everyday for the last year
Went the grande on opening nite and became a regular. Saw many great shows. Michigan bands along with the Brit bands, Joplin and many more. it's a deserted building now. saw some photos of it. But it wasa great venue in it's day.
shi says siiiiiiiii, silence of love .....precious,thanks Iggy for your energy
best version by far love the guitar sound
Superb guitar parts. Incredible version.
Totally awesome this is the best and the original ,the lead guitar says it all whitey mighty!!
Yeah Iggy! Saw him live in NYC. THREW HIS ALL AT IT. UNFORGETABLE.
I saw him in May. he rocks.
Awaysome guitar player here .Cool riffs.Like this version as well as Bowies .
My mother...
Was born in China..in 1922...RIP, Ma.
this song makes me cry cant stop hearing it
I had a beer with Iggy in 79...he is such a nice guy...no doubt enlightened now...would love to have a beer with him again...perhaps its in the palms...(haha Malaysian)
Lew, i was in an East L.A. restaurant in 1995. Saw Iggy and his China Girl. Bought them dessert.
FYI, there is a facebook page on Whitey Kirst the guitarist who is playing on this vid (with Iggy pop from 1990 to 2003)
In my top 3 songs ever.
Love this version. It's grimy and totally punk.
These Olympia 1991 videos are fucking brilliant, whoever did them! Timeless .
the guy is 44 and still he behaives as if he were 20 !! awesomenes
Still does, saw him at ACL yesterday. I was not expecting him to rock so hard!
This is beautiful as it's about Iggy's personal life when he was besotted with a Vietnemese girl n he even includes it in his lines when he sings "Oh Jimmy just you shut your mouth!!"
Iggy's got soul!
Iggy's still my favorite freak and China Girl's the bomb. Throws his soul into everything and never holds back. Last saw him at the 9:30 Club in DC in 1988. Jammed elbow-to-elbow.
My dad saw minor threat there
Mike Hunt Great club, Mike. Haven't made a return trip in a while - too much of a geeky workaholic these days - but there's nothing like music to shed the daily grind and regain perspective. Legendary dive, iconic musicians live on. Make each day special. As Iggy penned, keep a lust for life. Sure your pop would agree.
Love the guitar work in this.
Best version by far!
Iggy actually makes me like this song!
moment tres rare j'y etais et entendre iggy chanter china girl...wow...merci mr bowie
I remember at Iggy free shows in detroit when he put peanut butter all over himself and dove onto broken glass, Wow, anything goes-call it performance art in that era before the phrase was ever coined
Lew Snyder you know us Michiganders we love our hooks, and hes still remembered plus hes punk, you all grew up in a fun time in Detroit with the Grande Ballroom yes?
went to the grande on opening nite. I became a regular. Never knew how Ruus Gibbs had this popeline to Brit bands but I saw some increduble shows. Brit bands amd Michigan bands. Inreseting mix. Still a fan of both.Long list of shows. My memorries are vivid since I am so into music.Saw some photos recently of the old Grande which is now an abandoned bdlg.It was tons of fun going there!
Lew Snyder yeah i missed that all by a decade, and i hear they are going to tear it down. you should write all of that into a book, and i belong to a facebook group Detroit Music in the late 60's early 70's (odd name i know)the people in there have pictures they took , they saw zeppelin!! the Who!! makes my head spin!! its a closed group but if you're on facebook as this name ill look ya up i'm Roxanne F(on facebook i have a music page i was D'troit Rox but fb made me change it to a real name). and if you'd like i will add you to the group... they'd love to hear the stories and the music.. as would i!
+Lew Snyder - Yea, real wild child ~
"MORE EGGS!"
That's on UA-cam.
God that Gold Top is blowing me away !! ----
tubes5150 looks like Mike Starr from AIC..
Nice sound quality for live!
Хорошие музыканты играют с Игги просто супер.
Muito bom! Adoro essa música...
I think if Iggy didn't always have the stigma of hardcore drugs attached to him that he would've been the hugest artist of his time...I'm 34 years old now at the dawning of 2014 and remember as a little boy this stigma about him that stopped people like my mom from going out and buying his albums..I'm sure there were many other wholesome soccer moms in the 80's, in the era of war against drugs and 'just say no', that wanted to like him but didn't want to open themselves to soccermom backlash like my mom
Iggy and the stooges were not taken seriously by the music press, even though funhouse was considered a masterpiece by creem magazine and was one of their 10 best all time records.all bands had drug issues in the 70s and 80s
Maybe buying his records would help him distance himself from poverty and help him kick off drug habit….and maybe his music helped many other addicts work through their problems .
Actually that is exactly what happened.
Legend
je découvre cette chanson chanté par Iggy Pop c'est vraiment bien, plus Rock!
Magnifica interpretacion de Iggy Pop me gusto mucho esta version con el, Bastante buena
This is originally Iggy’s song
They co wrote the song.
eternidade.

True
RHCPTABOO he does i sometimes confuse him for anthony
He's kinda like the Anthony Kiddies who isn't shit/
Oh.Dear .Raw,rude,in your face.I think I love it..even though I'm a huge Bowie fan..
Come on the stooges rock on iggy pop lust for life.❤
iggy rules. he is such a grub. iggy is the best.
I'd kill to be at this concert
Never heard of iggy Pop.

+Sandrah Cox look for the passenger and I wanna be your dog. powerful stuff
+Sandrah Cox That's pretty sad someone you're age doesn't know Iggy Pop, get educated.
All my funny little life I've waited for youuuu
😢
The REAL version ! Pisses al over Bowies (with all due rsspect ) RIP David Bowie
proripp right,this is a song about being a junkie,not a Asian.
Lot of respect for uncle Dave. But yup. Pisses all over him.But fair play, DB put this on his album and released it as a single too so he could give Iggy the money. My favourite thing about Bowie is what he did for Iggy, I doubt he would have done fuck all but drugs after 1971 without Bowie's patronage.
Talking of which, when they spent a lot of time together in Berlin in the 70's kinda cleaning up and making incredible music. And by all accounts, they fucked. For all sorts of reasons, not least that they were degenerate fiends.
I think, for the interests of history, it should be asked how that went about.
My guess is Iggy was a top, but Dave was a power bottom.
Although most people prefer the David Bowie version (1983) Iggy Pop has a rocking version!
Magnifico Iggy
"China Girl" is a song co-written by David Bowie and Iggy Pop during their years in Berlin, first appearing on Pop's album The Idiot (1977). The song became more widely known when it was rerecorded by Bowie and released on his album Let's Dance (1983) and as a single.
Paul Trynka, the author of David Bowie's biography, Starman, claims the song was inspired by Iggy Pop's infatuation with Kuelan Nguyen, a beautiful Vietnamese woman.[2]
Straight copy and paste from Wikipedia....good job
No was written in France by The château d'Herouvilles studio ,Iggy and David was there for the Idiot and Low ,at the end they just mouved to German Munich studio to finish the Idiot and then mouved to Berlin Hansa studio to mix the Low album
Rip DB Thank you Iggy
Iggy and davids "The Idiot" interpretation of this song is far superior to the "lets dance" vrsion, when Iggy says "My little china girl, you shouldnt mess with me, Ill ruin everything you are" - he means it
many Bowiefantast in here that haet iggy..grow up people..this is the best china girl
@pepethekingprawn I believe the question was more "who recorded/performed it first." If they share co-writing credits, then it belongs to both of them.
Part of why Bowie re-recorded the song was to provide cash, via royalties, to Iggy, who was strapped by that time.
I'd have to say I like Bowie's better, but this version is till super amazing! :D
Awww 🥰
@MsLeen101 It's Iggy's song, on "The Idiot" an album that Bowie produced in the mid-70's. Bowie later covered it on "Let's Dance."
Fantastic Cover!!!
+Rochester Swift It's original.
WANDERSON FEITOSA
My mistake... I looked it up; Iggy and Bowie co-wrote it and Iggy released in first in '77 and then Bowie did the version I first heard as a kid in '83
Genius. Young dangerous dirytdog Iggy spouting broken beauty.
Super song
I know he wrote the song china girl ,and many others!
great.
This guitarist is the real deal
yup
PERFECT SONG
The song that helped pull Iggy out of his death spiral; thank you David Bowie for writing it for him.
They wrote it together.
I believe iggy wrote the song.bowie made it popular
Man, If only I wasnt 1 when this happened, I would love to see iggy in my hometown.
Iggy is the Man !!!
god he is beautiful
@meanhead1337 La canción fue escrita por David Bowie para un álbum de Iggy Pop.
She said shhh ❤❤
better than the album version for iggy doin this cut. damnit this is fantastic
Its the original version mate as he released it on his album about 7 years before Bowie did as they both co-wrote it but its about Iggy's life at the time they were both in Berlin
Greatest Grandfather of Punk.
Detroit, MI
what can i say...he´s great...one of my personal heros:)
@aoilune
Iggy's version is the original version.
buenisimo solari...
What year is this gig from? His vocal sounds AMAZING! AND THAT GUITAR IS ON FIRE!!!!
1991.
Godfather of Punk!
Still David Bowie's version is my favourite.
Iggy, you got an awesome body
Wow, did't know yet.
@evilbecauseyouwantme According to Wikipedia it was co-written by Iggy and David Bowie.
@MsLeen101
It was Iggy Pop's song--written for "The Idiot." Bowie produced that album & later covered it.
A true Dorian Grey, Live long and prosper..
@obscureb Bowie is credited with co-writing the song though, so surely it belongs to both of them?
@ballls508 the version on the idiot is the defintive version. it's the best for sure.
@LifeSoulAz no, he is craig pike(rip) and i found on the net he is dead(car accident).
Whitey(guitar player) and mike starr were friends
JE NE SAVAIS PAS QUE CETTE CHANSON était écrite par Bowie et Iggy années 70's au château d'Hérouville
Yes Olympia 1991 Brick by Brick tour
Emotive guitar solos...top performance. Nearly 15 years later he still hurts for his "little China girl". Kuelan Nguyen would eventually divorce from her French husband in 1995.
Te escucho y te veo Iggy, pero esta canción siempre será para mi del eterno David Bowie
Es original de Iggy
@@karlaj.4056 Si lo sé, quise decir que Bowie supo realmente apropiarse de esta canción ✌💕
so f%#cking awesome!
