      I agree with you. I also, have seen other videos using this pattern. I haven't figured out the appeal. I haven't seen one other version look good on anyone. After seeing the problems with this pattern, i don't think i'd even try it. She handled the problems perfectly. This dress is by far the best and it looks good on her.

      Thank you. My grandma gave me this little tip: first fit the bust darts, adjust the waist and then you will see where the shoulders end up :) I guess it is easier than to start with shoulders and then have to move everything else up or down...

    I have seen this challenge on many other videos and I have been confused why anyone would use this pattern. No one else on youtube looks good in it. Yours is, by far, the best one. The fabrics are lovely and it fits you perfectly. Considering how much you have had to adjust the pattern to make it work, I wouldn't waste my time in even trying to fit it on my short, chubby frame. Looks great on you, though!

    • @craftyhanded
      @craftyhanded  Рік тому +2

      Thank you so much for stopping by and complimenting me! ❤ I think everyone wants to try it because the dress looks so nice on the pattern booklet, and the thought of making it in half a day seems too good to pass :) But in truth it IS very tricky to fit, not even talking about the actual time :). If the darts, the shoulders, the waist, and the other pattern measurements are not adjusted to one's body, it just cannot fit and flatter the figure... But I do think that, with proper adjusting, this type of dress could be flattering on many different body types... concealing or emphasizing what needs to be...

    I am tickled at how much this challenge blew up world wide. From a style most of us never heard of or have seen....well so many sewers know of it. You did not mention leaving your dress hanging overnight to let the bias drop. I have not made this dress, but many others have mentioned this. Your dress is lovely and moves well with you.

    • @craftyhanded
      @craftyhanded  10 місяців тому

      I am sorry I didn't mention leaving the bias to drop. On the other hand, if the dress was supposed to be made in 4 hours, I guess one shouldn't worry about it much :) I was using pre-washed 100% cotton, and even after leaving it hanging overnight, the only problem I had with the bottom edge was in the pattern, as I mentioned.
      Thank you so much for commenting! ❤
      It is interesting how this dress pattern spread :) But I don't know what made it so popular above others. Is it the supposed 'quick and easy' or its shape or the wrap that is so attractive? It would be good to know why others made it. I like the 50' style dresses and thought this wraparound feature would be cool, and I am really happy I tried it.

    Using thicker fabric often works better for fitted garments.

    • @craftyhanded
      @craftyhanded  Рік тому

      Yes, it is kind of tricky. I think it needs to be somewhere in between... and fit the garment For this dress, I used 130g = 3.84oz/yd2 100% cotton. For the other dress, I used 120g = 3.54oz/yd2 for the skirt, which worked well also, but for the white panel there, I used a thicker fabric, and I think it was too stiff.

    I’ve watched quite a few of the WalkAway dress videos, but yours is one of the best. No needless inane chatter...but still giving the details we need.
    I won’t make one, though, as I’m rather short and round, and the style won’t suit me.

    definitely has the bod for it... which is as important as the dress.. putting a dress whose focal point is the waist on a body that does not have a waste will never work..doesn't matter how well the dress is made.

      I guess so, but there will always be someone who has too much or not enough.. and yes there are many ways to compensate. But then what does one do when the guy who chose you wants you undressed??? I believe it is best to have someone who likes you the way you are with all the imperfections. Then one doesn't have to feel ashamed.

    I made the Butterick version 8 years ago and was so disappointed with the final results. The measurements were so wonky.

    The dress fits you spot on! 😊

    • @craftyhanded
      @craftyhanded  Рік тому

      Thank you so much! ❤
      Yes, the measurements were definitely wonky. I actually sewed a mockup first. But I still ran into problems and had to adjust the final dress while sewing. And there was a time when I wanted to throw it out the window 😃 but I kept going... and it took me much longer than 4 hours.
      I know I am not professional, and this was just a second dress I made, but I think with the given pattern, this dress would be a "challenge" for most.

    Oh, I was really enjoying this video because the fabric is so gorgeous and your voice is lovely to listen to. And then my neurological condition kicked in and made me feel dizzy and nauseous so I had to stop. This happens every time I try to watch a video with music that’s put on top of human voice. It’s especially bad if the music is turned up for a minute or so, and then turned down while the voice is talking.
    Please would you consider making videos without any music for those of us who have this disability?
    And for anyone who doesn’t have this problem, my comment is in no way a criticism of the video or the content, but just an explanation of why I’m not able to watch any more. And I do know others have the same problem - it might just give more viewers and “likes” to the content if more of us could watch.
    Bless you and thank you for taking the time. I turned the sound off completely and finished to the end so I could see what the dress looked like - gorgeous!
    But of course, I missed all your helpful tips. ❤

    • @craftyhanded
      @craftyhanded  Рік тому

      Thank you for a nice comment! I am so glad you liked it and so sorry for your bad sound experience. Does the music itself bother you or is it when it plays under the naration? Would it be better if the music or background sound plays just where there is no talking?

    • @rbrown6476
      @rbrown6476 Рік тому

      @@craftyhanded Thank you so much for replying - not everyone is so understanding!
      I love to listen to music when it’s played at a constant level, and if it’s the only thing I’m trying to listen to. For instance, I can’t then have a conversation with someone if there’s music on. I can’t chat to someone when the TV is playing either (some people leave their TV on when you visit!)
      It’s almost the same when I’m in a room and several conversations are going on at the same time - my brain can’t focus on one only, and I get scrambled noise that’s painful.
      I can’t shop anywhere that has music playing either, but this has stopped being the norm in a lot of shops these days. It meant I couldn’t make a decision whether to buy anything and had I just to leave!
      For me, the nicest videos are just human voice talking normally, or just the sound of sewing/cooking/ etc. because then I can match the vision experience to the sound I’m getting. I find actually that small periods of silence are quite restful to the brain, and helps to consolidate what has just been said.
      This is a weird illness and does spoil so much for me, but if it’s any help to you and others, I hope I’ve explained how it affects some people.
      Bless you xxx
