@@thegaminggrappler Back then, Nintendo could have multiple teams working on a lot of games. Now days in HD era, games need more people to make. So Nintendo can't make as much games as they could without the help of third parties, Wario is a good example. Wario was created by Nintendo's R and D 1 team, but they were shut down in 2005, so a third party company was needed to make Shake it. However Good Feel is making a samurai game right now. The other problem is that Triple A companies have a hard time seeing the potential of short games, as Triple A companies have unrealistic high expectations for sales. The good news is that Indie companies love making short games.
The same thing is also kinda happening to sega and jet set radio, the last jsr game was in like 2001 and now bomb rush cyberfunk is about to fill that void
@AgentCrunchy "The same thing is also kinda happening to sega and jet set radio, the last jsr game was in like 2001 and now bomb rush cyberfunk is about to fill that void" I would recommend Neon Tail. That's a game inspired by JSRF and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
To be fair at least the jsr devs commented saying theyre basically too old to carry that spirit. I disagree but its better than nintendos total silence or some of their complete bs like their reasoning for ignoring f zero, if the jsr devs just arent inspired then thatd be fair
What I really love about the gameplay is the wide control of vertical movement. From the wall running to the body slam, to the dive and to the Metroid-esque super jump, if you can master it, you'll almost never lose your momentum.
My favorite description of the lap 2 mechanic can be found in comment sections for the Pizza Tower OST; Pizza Time (lap 1): a man running for his life The Death I Deservioli (lap 2): a man daring death to catch him The concept of a lap 2 to me is amazing because it takes all of the struggle you faced in a level, everything put up to impeded you, all the time you spent getting through it just the first time and says, "Watch me," as you proceed to do it all again at breakneck speeds. It exists as nothing more than an opportunity to style on your enemies. You either come out with total domination, or are punished for your hubris. Better make sure its worth the risk
So you're saying Nintendo neglecting its classics is how we get amazing new games and a spotlight on talent that might have otherwise gone unappreciated? Keep up the good work, Miyamoto!
@Autobot Starscream I had to Google that quote, because I was SURE you were quoting Adolf Hitler. Thankfully it was just the guy who erased half a universe.
If you think about it, Bug Fables did the same. Nintendo robbed us of great Mario stories after the first three, and have yet to make the REAL Paper Mario 4.
Devil Advocate, but the title of this video is a great argument for why Nintendo SHOULD neglect their classics. Otherwise we wouldn't get bangers like Pizza Tower. I'm of course not of this opinion, mostly because the developer simply made the game because he was familiar with Wario Land and wanted to make a game *like* it because it was something he felt comfortable with, since he had little background in game design before. I don't think Nintendo should neglect their classics regardless, but I understand to a degree why they focus more on more popular franchises.
Bug Fables did the same for the Paper Mario series, and hopefully 'Oddity' will do the same for Mother. Now we just need some for Pokemon, Star Fox, and F-Zero.
Nintendo can’t just localize Mother 3 because of the copyright minefield that game even is, primarily with the music and the Music industry here in the West would have a field day hitting them with law suits the moment the game even came here. So much about the game would have to be changed within the OST to do so or just paying off Music Industry lawyer teams just to keep them off their backs, which logistically, that’s not money Nintendo even has to spend to make a western release worth the cost. I get people are passionate and get the idea that Nintendo of Japan has some backwards logic about not releasing a game for an audience willing to pay, but from a business standpoint, Nintendo has far more to lose in making a localization than they can gain out of it, they cannot afford it in any capacity. Mother 3 can thrive in Japan because copyright laws are not Westernized there, something the Music Industry here has been pushing to make happen for decades now, they want a piece of the pie that badly. For Nintendo to turn a blind eye to the fan translation is honestly a blessing that we even have a way to play it the way the game was envisioned to be, localizations, while they can bring games to other countries can come with the disadvantage of losing more of a game’s identity if it comes at the costs of having to make more then just a few small changes. A good example is Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure localization changing the names of some of the characters to every, single, stand power into something less impactful and cool all because just naming the Stand after an album or song title is just asking for the Music Industry’s copyright teams to come knocking at your doors for their cut.
There is also a Character named Snick which is a slightly more realistic hedgehog with red shoes, with his .exe form being part of the original combo system, but was that combo system was scrapped.
Pizza Tower was the literal answer "if you are not going to do it, I will do it myself", and because of Nintendo neglecting Wario Land for over 15 years and don't give a fuck about Wario besides for WarioWares for a quick buck, indie developers had to do it and in the end Pizza Tower and probably titles like Sugary Spire and Antonblast did surpass the entire Wario Land franchise. I would be actually mad if because of these indie games, Nintendo will make a "Mario 3D All Stars 2" but with Wario Land after 15 years of doesn't caring
It's not just about making money... it's about making MORE money than this same time last year and MORE than the last quarter. They expect infinite growth in a world of finite things, so at some point something has to give. Especially competing with mobile they aren't interested in taking little bites, and while AAA games cost more money to make, they also pull in more profit. I don't mind... why? Large companies don't have the time, but these are genres that small dev teams can complete in a few years. Provided they stand out and get attention that leaves a nice amount of meat on the bones. Large companies can't take risks; indie devs are required to or they get lost in a sea of other games. Large companies specialize in highly trained artists who can do 3D, while for most indie developers 3D isn't an option... anyone can make nice 2D art, but it takes a LOT of money and skill to get a 3D game to look decent. If you spent all that time building a team for 3D you are wasting money to have them work on 2D projects. Large companies are moving toward live service models while indie devs don't have the resources. Since there is still a market for a game that is not, indie devs will be happy to fill that niche. Large companies want to move everything online and involve multi player... those are very difficult or impossible things for small dev teams to do and increase the complexity exponentially. Best of all? If a large company decides to re-release or port a game usually the results are trash or has issues the original did not (input lag is a common one you see). That indie dev studio might live or die off based on how well a similar game will do; their interests are much better aligned with the players. So good indie devs put a ton of love into it, you can feel their passion, and they try to create the best possible experience for players. I know where I put my money these days...
With combo the highest tier i ever got was "Nice, :) good job" Every 5 kills tier increases 1-4 "Lame" 5-9 "Cheesy" 10-14 "Not bad but not great either" 15-19 "Getting somewhere --->" 20-24 "Nice, :) good job"
14:32 actually, taking damage doesn't ruin your combo by itself, you still can recover and continue streak going. Problem is taking damage (and also falling into pits) will waste your time a lot, and that timer is the main factor that can stop your combo. You still can refresh timer by collecting clocks and toppings (both kinds).
"Nintendo should have done X Y Z" Nintendo's doing really good for themselves, not doing your X Y Z. @1:53 Nintendo is a multibillion dollar corporation. I don't blame you for not understanding how Nintendo does business though, since none of us has access to their financial records, or projected expenses and revenues spreadsheets. Like Nintendo is a corporation, not your friend. People need to stop treating them like an abusive spouse, and more like a stranger you have nothing in common with.
I’m all honesty I’m glad that they don’t put all their effort into classics and making new one because they have so many of them and if they were going to focus on their older games then that’s all they would focus on. Instead I want them to make new IP like splattoon and have them put their twist on genres that they haven’t done before plus this way it opens up a lot of other re-creations like pizza tower is where we can see how fans of the classic would make their own game and it has a fresh and new fell to it while still being familiar.
Just to be clear I’m not saying stop making the classic games because that is pretty much what defines Nintendo but at the same time don’t put as much of the companies time and money into something they’ve already done
@@thealmightycronko634 What about their long standing franchises, such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Pokemon? Why do they get all the love and others not?
17:56 what the peppori are blaring about? the jump animtion makes it different enough to be athetically different and it also while serves a similar purpose has a different gameplay style for it to be used.
the sonic criticism is fair, but only because I think people forget the proper way to speed through that game is in ball form. As soon as you're going fast press down and you're essentially a deathchog. Pizza Towers workaround is far better though, just make the enemies absolutely scared shitless when you reach a certain speed, that seems way more fair and fun.
I mean, technically they did so in the cases of Mario Tennis Aces, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Splatoon 2, Arms, Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Animal Crossing New Horizons, and many more games but I think that with the older titles they "need" to be high quality because they've either a specific niche that Nintendo has to respect, such as FZERO's or Mother and Earthbound's stories, aesthetics and gameplay, or they have outdated innuendos and stereotypes, I.E. the wise guys from Mother 3 and FZERO'S 1990s viewpoint of super macho men and women. I think it's not about the lost the money, it's about branding. Oh yeah, Pizza Tower's cool. Just like the 90s animation it was inspired from. So, all I would have to do with EmperorSheep's level design is to just let him go on his rampages and let his captains guide and push him unlike Peppino's just natural born cartoony stress, and have my levels be slow, methodical stealth missions with optional RPG Persona 5, Mario and Luigi, Undertale and Deltarune, and Punch-Out inspired fights with both characters needing to stay in a tower defense Five Nights At Freddy's room as we need to defend ourselves from The Shadow World in between levels and whenever we lose all of our lives. Cool. To be continued, I have to go. And I'm back
He’s not the only one that has done a video like this, though I agree with you considerably since we’ll get more wario likes in the same way we got more metroidvanias.
It is its own thing, but it cannot be denied what the reason behind Pizza Tower being done is. Why itself and other games such as Antonblast are being released within the same time period. Because there is a booming market that Nintendo is leaving untouched and no triple A company is willing to invest in.
At this point, just let Nintendo be forgotten and replaced by the fans. Show them the price of forsaking the community they once fostered and now scorn for wanting to show praise through fangames.
On that whole Nintendo rant at the start, Nintendo probably assumes that they can't make a significant profit to make up for the cost of localizing and porting it to a newer console. Earthbound beginnings was easy because the English translation was made, but never published, while the sales of earthbound outside of Japan we're relatively poor, making Mother 3 seem not worth it. The F-zero franchise had declining sales after the SNES game with each entry, And I'm sure the Wario games were also not performing well either. I absolutely think that they should revive older franchises on newer systems, but they have to spend money to make money And the only way to convince them is to make a spin-off property that effectively reinvigorates Nintendo's interest.
I've recently watched a video explaining why Nintendo is so overprotective of IPs, and the fear they have _is_ a legitimate one... but not as big of a threat as games like this can be. Take Metroid for instance. One of Nintendo's big three franchises once upon a time, so influential that it's permanently etched into the name of its genre, and _what_ is the standard for said genre now? Not Metroid any more! Not even Castlevania, the _other_ franchise responsible for the genre's name! No, it's instead a little indie title that exploded in popularity. I basically consider IPs as "money trees". You don't want anyone to steal it, so you have to keep it secured. But being _too_ protective is basically shutting it up inside a box... and as we all know, living plant minus sunlight equals dead plant. And while the fact this sort of thing can happen is proof that genres never truly die, it's still a big problem for the industry. The inability to see the roots of a genre's development can seriously cripple the amount of quality new entries, as some lessons can only be learned by comparing the modern successes with the games they improved upon.
19:39 which I do believe is a cost, as it's completely different in objective that doesn't incorparate what the player has done. This isn't a test at all, this just random homework, though they may still be charming I do agree the game would've been better without one since the stages are the bosses. Unless they could make use of the fast style of gameplay into the bosses they shouldn't be here or be made into PLatforming based ones.
18:03 speed traps? ok sonic cannot blast through things in his way as he isn't a Juggeraunt more like a poky assasin, so sega didn't seem to understand how valuable being to have more options to keep the speed while moving. Turning should be in, a kind of super jump should be in, Rolling shouldn't remove your speed and be able to be undone.
Mother 3 is a special case. Nintendo cannot release it in America/Europe because of sampled music from western artists, and buying rights for that music would cost them hundreds of millions. And music industry is a legal nightmare, so if Nintendo releases Mother 3 in the west they'd only lose money.
Mother 3 will never be localized officially, because of several dozen music copyright violations. Moon channel did a vid on it and explains why it won't happen.
Nintendo has more classics by far than any other company, They don't just have 1 or 2 franchises that are popular. I think people underestimate the effort it takes to make a video game.
"Why doesn't Nintendo localize Mother 3?" 1st off Mother 3 has music in it that can get Nintendo sued in the western region. Just look at what happened when they tried to localize mother 3 ost which had to be taken down pretty fast in the western regions unlike in Japan. 2nd 100.000 downloads of a translation patch is not a big enough target audience for Nintendo to waste their resource especially if they are gonna sell it for 10$/10€. 3rd Mother 3 has topic and things that didn't age well or should be censored in certain region which is another extra work that they might not able to do without breaking what made the game great storywise. Extra point, from all the Nintendo owned IPs Mother is the one they are the least strict about. Almost as if they know about what's happening but they intentionally doesn't do anything against mother 3 roms and translation patches unlike other franchises they own. TL.DR.: There are reasons why Mother 3 isn't localized. You just didn't look into the topic and talked dumb shit pretending like Nintendo is blind about a potential (that doesn't even exist).
Mother 3 is never coming to the west due to US vs JP copyright issues. Japan has a lot of leniency in certain places (like using a few beats from a track that would get you insta-sued in the US) and is extremely restrictive in others (look at DQs long-time composer and issues surrounding DQXI), due to not having the same framework of copyright laws. The legal red-tape and potential litigation over the soundtrack alone is the primary reason why there isn't an official localization.
The creator himself even gave the greenlight for gamers to just download the fan translation. It appears that he doesn't care about the money and just wants people to have a good time.
Overall great video, I just think that comparing other nintendo properties to Mother 3 is unfair. I know that Mother doesn't sell as well as other franchises, but the creator of the series is not interested in continuing the story, and I would rather have 3 games with passion and good story than a big series full of mediocre games that the creator didn't want to make. The fact that Nintendo doesn't assign another person to just pull a new mother game for the fans is a good sign in my opinion.
In my opinion, Pizza Tower excels at its gameplay so much that it exceeded Wario Land 4 and became even better, playing Pizza Tower for so long, and then going back to Wario Land 4, hell even Sonic feels weird to play
(SPOILER WARNING) i love the fact that he doesnt talk about fake peppino to avoid spoiling the game even more, he also doeent even show him there in the bosses section. good job Grappler!
Konami is another one who fumbled the ball. Decided IGA giving them Symphony of the Night et al wasn't worth their time, so he turned around and gave us Bloodstained...
Nintendo:goes after fan games, but loses more than just their reputation due to indie games taking inspiration from their work but also being original.
My experience with wario games is completely off. Only played 2 wario games, both on the nintendo DS, Wario Ware Touched, which was great to prepare me for everything the DS could ever throw at me control-wise and a more metroidvania like wario game that I can no longer remember the name of.

Difference there is Sega has re-released JSR several times since then.
@AgentCrunchy "The same thing is also kinda happening to sega and jet set radio, the last jsr game was in like 2001 and now bomb rush cyberfunk is about to fill that void"
I would recommend Neon Tail. That's a game inspired by JSRF and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
@@tinkerer3399 But not Jet Set Radio Future...
My favorite description of the lap 2 mechanic can be found in comment sections for the Pizza Tower OST;
Pizza Time (lap 1): a man running for his life
The Death I Deservioli (lap 2): a man daring death to catch him
The concept of a lap 2 to me is amazing because it takes all of the struggle you faced in a level, everything put up to impeded you, all the time you spent getting through it just the first time and says,
"Watch me," as you proceed to do it all again at breakneck speeds. It exists as nothing more than an opportunity to style on your enemies. You either come out with total domination, or are punished for your hubris. Better make sure its worth the risk
Fun fact: the pizza time sequences are in-canon pizzaface weaponizing Peppino's ptsd of ticking timers from the war
I was like, alright not a bad video five minutes in, and then I realized this channel only had 760 subs? Tf?? Well you just got one more, great vid
this isn't a channel that I expected to have so little subs, this video is well produced, good job and keep it up.
This is amazing review (Underrated channel surprisingly you need more support)
So you're saying Nintendo neglecting its classics is how we get amazing new games and a spotlight on talent that might have otherwise gone unappreciated?
Keep up the good work, Miyamoto!
I feel conflicted about that
The hardest choices require the strongest wills.
I love how all the Pizza Tower reviews seem to have an unspoken code not to spoil that one boss...
Now we just need some for Pokemon, Star Fox, and F-Zero.
before i watch the video: if nintendo ignoring their classics means more games at the quality of pizza tower then they should continue
A good example is Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure localization changing the names of some of the characters to every, single, stand power into something less impactful and cool all because just naming the Stand after an album or song title is just asking for the Music Industry’s copyright teams to come knocking at your doors for their cut.
love the TV motif that's sprinkled through out the game and reminds me of how that motif was through out old cartoons and branding
There is also a Character named Snick which is a slightly more realistic hedgehog with red shoes, with his .exe form being part of the original combo system, but was that combo system was scrapped.
he isn’t a hedgehog snick is a porcupine
The sudden 4K ultraHD IPhone 14 pro max quality at 13:42 really caught me off guard
With combo the highest tier i ever got was "Nice, :) good job"
Every 5 kills tier increases
1-4 "Lame"
5-9 "Cheesy"
10-14 "Not bad but not great either"
15-19 "Getting somewhere --->"
20-24 "Nice, :) good job"
14:32 actually, taking damage doesn't ruin your combo by itself, you still can recover and continue streak going. Problem is taking damage (and also falling into pits) will waste your time a lot, and that timer is the main factor that can stop your combo. You still can refresh timer by collecting clocks and toppings (both kinds).
"Nintendo should have done X Y Z" Nintendo's doing really good for themselves, not doing your X Y Z.
@1:53
Nintendo is a multibillion dollar corporation.
Perfectly timed music at 0:24
I’m all honesty I’m glad that they don’t put all their effort into classics and making new one because they have so many of them and if they were going to focus on their older games then that’s all they would focus on.
The sheer amount of movement options and speed conserving abilities is absolutely insane, it's exiting as hell no matter how much you've played
And thank God it happened.
It's like the Knuckles' Chaotix enemy system done right.
And I'm back
Why are you involving Pizza Tower in this argument?
Just let it be it’s own thing. 💀
0:20 this sounds like the sound in Ska Cha Cha from Sonic Rush but slowed down
Wanted to say that Nintendo isn’t exactly sitting on Mother. Itoi has said he’s happy with the series as is and doesn’t want to make a new game.
Doing chores to the pizza tower ost should be a crime.... unless you're preparing pizza toppings.. or spaghetti
Tbh you should review the Spark the Electric Jester trilogy, it's pretty fire
The F Zero GX comment hit hard because I was listening to the Lightning soundtrack while I was working this morning. Dx
Oh my god I love your editing! Thank you for making videos and I hope you’ll continue to grow your creations are such high quality
Nintendo: doesn't generate money through games saying they don't want the money
also Nintendo: Makes one of the best movies in the world
19:08 He just pulled out Literal Me Stand
At 1:30 , who is the skateboarding lizard? That feels like a nice 90s inspired indie game to try.
If pizza tower is what we get when nintendo neglects their classics, then i want them to KEEP NEGLECTING
to be fair I think the reason why they don't localize Mother 3 is because of the Magypsies, especially in this day and age they're kinda....a lot
Wrong, there's a fail state before Pizza Time and that's a combo break when you're going for the P rank
Pizza Ma approaches you at 1/2 Mach speed. You scream, It does othig.
soo, nintendo should keep neglecting their classics?
Can’t wait till an F zero successor comes out
Mother 3 will never be localized officially, because of several dozen music copyright violations. Moon channel did a vid on it and explains why it won't happen.
I'm gonna come back to this video when I play Pizza tower.
I agree with the opening statement btw.
did everyone forget the switch online expansion pass
They should do a Steam or GOG style operation where you download an official emulator and buy roms to download?
i mean... metroid dread only proves making new games in a an updated format similar to old would be gold
Nintendo has more classics by far than any other company, They don't just have 1 or 2 franchises that are popular.
I think people underestimate the effort it takes to make a video game.
Fans: Nintendo give us Mother 3 please!
Nintendo: HAHAHAHAHAHA…NO!!!
indie developers: hold my skills *stands up* alright ill do it myself
"Why doesn't Nintendo localize Mother 3?"
1st off Mother 3 has music in it that can get Nintendo sued in the western region.
TL.DR.:
There are reasons why Mother 3 isn't localized. You just didn't look into the topic and talked dumb shit pretending like Nintendo is blind about a potential (that doesn't even exist).
Now we need some brave souls to tackle making a Kirby Airride successor
I don't know why these people don't just subscribe because there has been so much effort for such a small reward cmon guys
3:08 Pokémon ranger’s fans wanting a Pokémon ranger 4.
Same can be said about bomb rush cyberfunk
Fr, Sega seems allergic to money if it's not a sonic game (made specifically by sonic team)
“We aren’t just going to be Nintendo.
We’re going to SURPASS Nintendo!”
It's better this way, an official port would be mega censored.
13:00 the combo ending during a p rank attempts:
Overall great video, I just think that comparing other nintendo properties to Mother 3 is unfair. I know that Mother doesn't sell as well as other franchises, but the creator of the series is not interested in continuing the story, and I would rather have 3 games with passion and good story than a big series full of mediocre games that the creator didn't want to make. The fact that Nintendo doesn't assign another person to just pull a new mother game for the fans is a good sign in my opinion.
This could have really used Tom and Jerry slapstick during at least one boss fight with the screams.
I'm pretty sure they said Mother as a series is over, but I might be wrong
In my opinion, Pizza Tower excels at its gameplay so much that it exceeded Wario Land 4 and became even better, playing Pizza Tower for so long, and then going back to Wario Land 4, hell even Sonic feels weird to play
Metroid had a self destruction as well not just Wario land

Nintendo:goes after fan games, but loses more than just their reputation due to indie games taking inspiration from their work but also being original.
My experience with wario games is completely off.
Only played 2 wario games, both on the nintendo DS, Wario Ware Touched, which was great to prepare me for everything the DS could ever throw at me control-wise and a more metroidvania like wario game that I can no longer remember the name of.
Is the other one wario: master of disguise?
