    The Bass taste secret:
    some shallow/weedy/warm water bass can be stout. Deep/cold water bass are as good as walleye. The trick is this: for all white flesh fish, dissolve 2 heaping tablespoons of salt, and one of baking soda, in a gallon of cold water. Rinse the fillets well in cold water, then leave them in this solution for 24-48 hours. Tbey will be firm, mild, and delicious.
    This will work in any white fleshed fish, but not on trout or salmon, which will just get mushy...er.

    Acctually people better start eating bass once in a while and here is my theory,bass need food and if there is too many bass there is less food for all of them,so if we keep control of how many bass are in certain areas the ones left have more food and grow bigger, don't burn me for this comment is just a theory but just think of it

    • @samsadowitz1724
      @samsadowitz1724 6 років тому +7

      There is merit to your theory..... its the basis of how states determine regulations and in some bodies of water, they want you to keep bass through plr slots (slots where if you catch one in the range, you release it and only keep one over the range).
      I recall seeing it in the Tennessee regulations a few years back.

      Victor Franqui pond management , my friends do that here the ones who have land and private ponds/tanks .they say a good way to tell on when to do this is if you keep catching fish but they’re all the same size it means there growth stunted because of not enough food and it’s good to cull a few they still don’t eat the bass though they eat the catfish and crappie and you start to catch some huge bass... but I do mean small private ponds don’t go taking small fish out of public fisheries now !

    Largemouth imho is a decent fish for the table as long as it is close to the limit size. As they get larger/older just let them go for the next angler to catch. Apex predators in many American lakes build up toxins as they age. I think spots actually taste better, maybe because they are usually legal to harvest at a smaller size. Love the video man!

    My kids (now in their 20's) and I fish a 40 acre lake (30 ft. deep) in northern WI with lg. and small mouth bass. No motors in the lake and you can see 15 ft. down. The lake is land locked and I have not bought a license in about 20 years. It is a spring fed lake and very clean. We can usually catch 7 or 8 keeper fish in an hour. I use the same recipe and the fish taste awesome. The lake used to have big gills, sun fish and the occasional crappie. Now we only see bass and they seem to be smaller than back in the 80's. The lake needs to be fished more to allow the bass to grow. Back in the early 60's, walleye were introduced but they slowly went away. I think most people that wouldn't consider eating bass have only tasted bass from an over boated, oily water lake contaminated by pollution. Clean bass cooked properly are very good!

    Great video, nothing wrong with eating bass, there are plenty of them in the lakes and rivers everywhere I lived. If I do eat them I usually eat the smaller ones about 12" long and in the early spring when the water is colder they usually taste a little better.

    I bass fish all the time and usually release everything I catch but there are times I go out with dinner on my mind. I only keep the fish if I'm going to eat it right away. Sometimes I feel bad and let the fish go before I leave. Not because I think killing fish for food is wrong, but they're such a fun fish to catch that I just feel like letting them live.

    There's a reason bass is called "green trout." Because it tastes damn good.

    The thing about largemouth bass is if the water is slack and warm like small lakes in July and August they can taste kind of muddy especially if they are over 2 or 3 pounds spring bass are very tasty however. Of coarse this pretty much goes for all fresh water fish with the possible exception of bluegills , not sure why ,but bluegills seem to taste good regardless of water temperature.

    Come up north and catch walleye! You'd loose your mind at how good it is. Just do like a northern USA trip, catch pike, walleye, rock bass, big smallies, etc.

      They don’t because they aren’t supposed to taste that good. They take a very long time to grow big too.

    The way you catch pickerel is by jig fishing, been fishing it my whole life and that’s all i’ve ever used to catch it mostly.

    @TallFishermanJ idk if you have ever considered live bait but pickerels love shiners and hit constantly. Love the catch and cook vids bro would like to see if you like grouper
