Kind of a wild take tbh - the NDA is ridiculous, considering literally anyone can access the Insiders build, meaning there's nothing *actually* confidential in the build. I'm personally convinced that they only impose the NDA to limit public criticism in circumstances such as these. It should be done away with.
The problem is that Rare is not listening to any feedback given by Insiders. So much feedback is given but Rare decides to not adjust anything. We get to test it, yes. But in the end we all know what goes into Insiders will end up in game and RAREly (Sorry) are they actually acting on the feedback given by their dedicated community. And we've seen how that ends up: Exploits that were made aware of in Insiders end up in the live game. And it has happened every Season so far. I respect the NDA so I can't speak for everyone. But putting it out there for everyone is their last hope for a lot of Insiders for Rare to listen. If you open up for feedback and discussion you need to be able to act upon it if a considerable majority is trying to point out significant problems and gaps in your product. And if you don't you'll inevitably cause frustration among your community. The game is in the worst state it's ever been (lag, reg, desync) and it can't go for much longer if you want the game to be successful in the future. It's make it or break it and Rare doesn't realize how much the dedicated community is actually trying to help only to end up ignored and talked down to.
@@pyerack Imagine getting feedback, not listening to it. Getting called out for bad updates (I'm not talking about weapon changes here, I'm talking server stability (Ping, reg, lag) and cheater epidemic) and then removing insiders to avoid criticism. This is the core of the community we're talking about here. People who regularly purchase stuff from the Emporium and buying the Plunder passes. It's those players Rare makes money of off. By frustrating them they only make those people quit. And look up Steamcharts and other metrics. The active player count is dropping significantly and you're out here defending poor choices from Rare. Way to go!
The NDA is stupid. Insiders just a PTR that anyone has access to and it only takes like a month for the changes to move over to the main game anyway. It's there purely for bug fixes (not that they listen anyway). Only the devs, not insiders, know about the real stuff that they still might change such as the leaked HC update.
i like alot of your other takes but i disagree with this at every facet. Joining the Insider Programme has no age verification other than your DOB on your Xbox Account. Several people in the early-late teens play insiders freely. Under UK law (where Rare is based), the NDA is null and void if "signed" by someone under the age of 18. One can assume this does not mean they are free of charge if discovered to be a minor but still means there is little legal action that can be taken in direct result of breaching the NDA other than a termination of access to the Programme itself. Therefore the direct act of leaking information isn't so much a crime as it is spoiling a movie for someone. (What i am about to discuss is not in any shape or form violating the NDA i had signed to become an Insider as all content discussed is now publicly available). The majority of posts I read prior to a change weren't in favor for it. Rare's initial response to this was to make a post saying they "have listened" and are going to work and put forward a different balancing decision. They then did a complete U-Turn and the original and widely disliked change got pushed to retail. I understand changes are necessary and am personally in favor of the change but it is disrespecting the most dedicated players and Insiders as a whole. You can ask any Sea of Thieves Insider that is trying to do their job and they'll all have a plethora of examples of Rare asking for feedback and then ignoring everything that doesnt fit their standing. Not to mention that up until recently, players were expected to go onto insiders and server hop/spend time sailing around to find other players otherwise their feedback was "inadequate". They have even gone to the extent of locking the feedback threads when there was too much of an overwhelming negative opinion to a change. The claimed "vocal minority" is always the players that disagree with Rare's changes and alot of the time it certainly isnt a minority. Im not saying breaking the NDA and leaking information on forums is correct, I am just saying I can't blame them.
It clearly states when joining the Insider program you must be over 18… if you’re not breaking the rules they probably wouldn’t care if you joined but if you are and lied about your age then you entered into an agreement under false pretenses…. I’m not in the UK so I’m not sure how their laws work but minors that lie to get in and then leak information are likely able to be held to some degree of responsibility since both acts could be considered malicious and intentional
@@AgentMurden Yes but Rare doesnt do enough to prevent children signing up to the programme. It is just checking a box and hoping for the best. The only thing I've "leaked" is that they didn't listen to our feedback and they actually hit me with a warning in discord for breaking NDA for that single sentence. I mean I respect the NDA because I agreed to it so I wouldn't leak info, but that was so ridiculous lol. Some people at Rare are too much for me. Also you say that it's not meant for as much feedback as we think, but they literally have "feedback" threads specifically asking for our opinions. OH shit did I just break NDA by saying that? Lol shit's so dumb. People wouldn't be so upset if it was restricted to bug testing, but when they ask for our opinion and don't care about it, well, that causes dissent. The very least they can do is be transparent and tell us their reasoning as to why they stick to their changes. Otherwise just make the insider program for bug testing and completely drop the act that it's for feedback. Like it was my first insiders season and I made so many support tickets. It was basically a slap to the face to me in how many things weren't fixed/listened to. Not to mention the multitude of old bugs they don't care to fix. They're one of the top earning gaming companies. They have millions and millions of dollars to spare. If they were a small team, I'd understand, but they really have no excuse. The one thing I don't agree with is how people demonize Rare as a whole. It's a company with a lot of employees who are very passionate people. They've made a game we all love and we shouldn't forget that.
If they specifically ask for feedback on a potential feature or change that is one thing… in the situations I was referring to today these were changes they have said are being implemented and were strictly looking for feedback on implementation not whether or not it should be changed.
