R.I.P. Mr. SHIMIZU
しみずさん😭
+Helloz World しみずせんせい 😭😭😭😭
Very beautiful video. I miss my old teachers. Some, or even just one, was especially memorable, had a really good attitude towards us kids, told many stories, wasn't so uptight, wasn't strict, ... he was from an earlier generation. Older than most other teachers. He was a little like the story telling grandpa that I never had in my childhood. He also has long since passed away, and I have nothing to remember him by, except that we both loved the movie 'Ronja the dobbers daughter' very much, and the whole class watched it when he brought it to school one day. RIP Lindenburger. You were a really special, really good teacher.
Johnny you're like a living historical piece of study. I was born 88' and didn't caught much from the 80's but i'am really into 80's culture and art. Listening to you talking about your life during the 80's is really interresting to me. Because i know it only from pictures or movies. To hear someone talking about how it was back then is mindblowing. Even more so because you were into the same stuff as me now.
Yeah I am trying to paint a picture of these times through memories, that's all we are made up of!
You are a gem, Johnny. Such an intimate video to share with your fans. This is why I'm subscribed and watch all your videos, just for a glimpse at the Happy Console Gamer you truly are.
Edit: Just a little proof of how much we love you this video has an 8% like to view ratio. I compared to some other channels where they have more of a 1% ratio. Fun facts.
Your videos always cheer me up when I'm down thanks John.
:)
I have watched this episode several times. I am a teacher and it warms my heart as I listen to you remembering your teacher (even if he wasn't the best teacher). I hope my students remember me in the future so kindly as you do for Mr Shimizu. I even shed a tear watching this episode. Thank you very much Johnny.
New to the channel here, dude. I really appreciate your honest approach to these videos. You speak straight to us like a normal human being, without speeding up your voice or deleting your thoughts to fit things into a squeaky clean, 5 minute package. You aren't afraid to share who you are, and that's fucking awesome. Videos like this are so cool and are great examples of good storytelling. Keep up the great work, man. Looking forward to being a fan now and in the future.
Thank you!
your art work as a kid is amazing.
came here from your latest episode, no regrets!
just like many others around here (your videos really cheer me up so much!)
your life stories are always told with so much passion, you have had some great art even all the way back then, that's amazing Johnny!
what a shame that I've missed your older episodes, I'll be going over on each one of them.
you make me feel like I've been there, that's how great you tell your life stories !
much love Johnny, please keep doing what you are doing.
I got shivers too Johny by watching your video. It is a really special moment to remember your art teacher Mr Shimizu. Thanks for telling us about him! Keep up the good work Johny!
This is a beautiful episode John. Sometimes the most powerful art is the most simple.
you remind me of my old english teacher, he always had the best stories. SOB had a story for each day of school, not one, multiple stories a day.
wow... seeing this really makes me think back on my high school English teacher, Ayala. he was really intelligent (he would teach us English, but also add in bits of history and science), composed, sometimes cocky, but he had something that I didn't really ever get from most teachers: compassion and patience. Even though he was well into his 40s, he still understood what being a teenager is like. and what was cool about him was that not only was he ALSO an artist, but when he was in the military, he was stationed in Japan. and there, he'd learned Japanese and even got into Akira. and since I was into anime and art, he'd always give me pointers and small critiques here and there. when I look through my art from that year, all I can remember is drawing during our free time in that class.
Really touching with the ending music from Yasunori Mitsuda! Sounds like these memories and art truly are A Treasure Which Cannot Be Stolen!
This has to be in my top 10 favorite Happyconsolegamer videos. I love the stories and I hope you continue to do them. You're such a compelling storyteller
What a great way to pay homage to a beloved person! Brought a tear to my eye....
I absolutely was touched by this episode. I think it's great to think back on past teachers who have touched us in some way. Whether it be huge or small. Your ending to this video, with your art, and the final few seconds really touched me. I am now working as an English teacher in Japan and I only hope that I can leave an impression on my kids as Mr. Shimizu did on you.
Let me just send my gratitude to both you and Mr. Shimizu. Life is certainly interesting.
The music choices at the end got me very teary eyed.. Best videogame/anime related show on youtube by far. Johnny I hope I can meet you in person someday we all love listening to your stories.
This was awesome. Made me start thinking about my highschool art teachers with all their eccentricities and also some of the other memories and feelings that go hand in hand with those times. Rip Mr Shimizu you strange and wonderful man.
TOO SATANIC, JOHN!
toooo satanic
SHUT UPP
SIT DOUN
Such a meme!
Always enjoy hearing your thoughts on everything from videogames to personal stories.
EXCELLENT VIDEO. Drawings and nostalgia. Can anyone ask for more!?
You have a very impressive and amazing artbook from your past. I just want to say thank you for sharing your thoughts and memories, I sincerely appreciate your most humble efforts put into this video. Two Thumbs Up
I just love how excited you are to share with us.
this is the best espisode so far!!! can you make more videos showing your sketchbooks?
Just saw this video for the first time today! Beautiful video John. I could feel the connection to your story, definitely a work of art.
Can you show us some of your current art, maybe redraw one of your old artworks and compare it to your old work
I second this. Really want to see his newer art.
+brydon10. 😀 same
Yeah! ya know, thought he said hed stopped drawing in some other vid but now he said he loves it and still does so... I reallyd like to see some of dat art yo!
This one hit me right in the feels. I had my favorite grade school teacher as well that I have tons of memories of.
Excellent video. What a great tribute. And of course your artwork from back then is amazing. I hope we get to see more in future episodes.
So great that you kept those old art books. Too many things from my past that I've lost or discarded. Really interesting episode, thank you for sharing.
Dude, no kidding, life is a trip. Omg the music at the end of your video is beautiful and really emphasized the nostalgic feels you are expressing. I'm glad you shared this.
My high school art teacher was just the opposite... kind of a crazy hippie guy from Kansas that had motorcycles and hot rods. A couple years after I graduated, I happened to be in town for graduation day. It was the last ceremony that he was participating in because he was retiring. He'd been teaching for like thirty years, so they made a big deal about it. When he took the stage, he told everyone that he was going to Burning Man. XD Not that long of a trip for him, I guess, the school is in northern Nevada.
These videos are so amazing! Thanks for sharing your fondest memories. Great stuff! :)
Having many friends who work as teachers, I know many of them just hope that their students will take something with them once they are done being taught. It's beautiful to see someone remember a teacher so fondly after so many years. I'm sure Mr. Shimizu would be absolutely floored to see this video. Awesome video Johnny !
thank you for sharing an awesome memory
Your videos about videogames are excellent, but the best episodes are those ones where you speak about life. Very touching episode, R.I.P. mr. Shimizu.
I love this story. I have watched this a few times. I love the way you faded the episode out with his picture, really nice. I hope his family get to see this one day :)
Your attention to details in your drawings is AWESOME Johnny! I really enjoy seeing someone good at what I really suck at.
Loved these stories, the ending felt like I was watching PBS or something :D. What I like about Mr. Shimizu is it sounds like he actually tried; all of my art "teachers" just made us do boring things like paper mache, they never critiqued our work beyond making sure that we at least did something, and they definitely never had us draw people.
Some day those original Johnny Millennium's will be worth a fortune to rich art collectors.
been watching u since I was 10 or 11 I’m 21 now and damn man gotta say I love your art, so cool to see something so intimate and unique. love ur channel, always will.
First thing I did today (before editing my video) was put this video on the Xbox One. I am envious of your ability to recall minor details and also pull out old flashback items to the past. This video was kinda sad but truly was a nice story to listen to. I remember my art teacher giving me a Mad magazine which had a vinyl album inside as a give a way. Untouched... till my curiosity got the better of me and I ripped it out to play it. LOL
still love this video. thanks for continuing to be so genuine to your audience
Wow, John. The end of this video was phenomenal. I kind of needed to feel like that made me feel. Thanks for sharing the memories.
These are some of you best videos, Johnny. I wish I kept my high school stuff. Are you an artist by profession now?
dude I love your channel . I had high as fuck anxiety once before a surgery and I watched your channel all night n didn't think about that shit half as much. so thanks man
Dude Johnny, 1, you need to do more Art classroom tutorials. 2, much respect to instructor Shimizu, (bow of appreciation)
Our art teacher had an extremely long and hard to pronounce surname so we just called him Mr. Alphabet.
Your top 10 moments of 2016 brought me here and what a treat! This vid acts as a nice tribute to Mr Shimizu. Nice vid! ... Too satanic John!
Wow, I too actually had the shivers from watching this as well. I remember my 8th grade art teacher was quite a character as well, don't remember her name, since my middle school yearbook is kinda buried in my closet somewhere. But yeah, I kind of did get choked up a little towards the end as well, this was a wonderful video tribute to him, I'm sure he's looking down at you right now smiling, yet still saying how satanic your drawings were, hahaha. Keep up the amazing work, and hope to see more of your old school art in the future!
Never seen you so excited about an episode! Great job Johnny big fan
I remember during my junior year our english teacher who had no idea what she was doing got replaced by this guy who graduated from the same high school in the '70s. He had a unique way of teaching and one of my favorite memories was when he climbed on top of our desks and walked across each one as he read. I swear he was like Robin Williams from Dead Poets Society
Thank you for sharing your good memory and you are a great artist.
Hey. It's Corey from Facebook that got you the Street Fighter 2 shirt. Not sure if you're coming back to Facebook or not, but I digress on that.
I just wanted to say how this video was...definitely heartfelt and find it amazing how people like yourself have these truly wonderful memories. What a great way to remember someone that not many people would know about if it hadn't been for this video. He had the important people in his life know him though regardless. His family, friends and his students. What a great send off to a man that is long gone. This just made his world seem so much bigger to everyone.
#TooSatanicJohn
I loved this. My favorite video of yours thus far. Thank you.
Too satanic, john! lol, short fella with black leather trousers (and probably japanese?), math teacher teaching art, and gave you an Excellent mark on a Vampire unit drawing... you know there's something amazing, really special about that. You remember him with affection
I think I copied that exact same warhammer drawing when I was a kid! I remember that picture really clearly.
this episode was really melancholic, thank you Mr. Shimizu
Too bad all my art teachers hated when I drew something I liked to draw (always saying stuff like "Please stick to what we are working on", "Stop adding details", and other stuff. And when I got my work graded, they ALWAYS say "Good start, but please do this instead").
This episode was fantastic. Btw I went to a huge arcade yesterday and played shinobi because i remembered you talking about it. It rocked!
Is very beauty to member one of your nice person, and this kind of artist is apsolutely perfection on ages
"D...Th... Thu... The Universe is surreal man!" *mad man smile* - 5:47
As a fellow artist, this is one of my favorite episodes! Love the art and love the passion! You should have more of these, and keep up the awesome content!
That was beautiful, John. The ending with the Xenogears soundtrack was awesome :)
seeing all your artwork makes me really happy for some reason and makes me want to motavate myself to start doing comics and manga but my problem my whole life has been self confidence and motavation to get things done like I feel like I don't have anything to give to the world
i fucking love this guy
I always am so overwhelmed by the passion you share that I never know what to say...
Just wanted to say that then.
If art is really the world to you why don't you keep making art and show it to us here on UA-cam?!
Great touching video as always! I look forward to every Sunday
What a great episode. I got choked up near the end there.
I'm sure Mr Shimizu is happy to know he is remembered. This channel is awesome!
Love your videos man! Great look back
Amazing video!!!
nice drawings Johnny, i really enjoyed your coloring style
Realy love your artworks John.
Holy shit 6:18 .. one of the best Italian comic books ever, an android in a screwed up future, very adult. I believe it got features in Heavy Metal magazine in the 80s in the U.S. Ranxerox (changed it's name slightly I remember due to law suit by Rank Xerox .. LOLZ).
Those are some great drawings, I love your use of color.
That may sound like a weird thing to comment on,
but I mostly drew in black and white before going digital.
Aww man another great video All this in grade 8! Page after page of awesome. Thanks for sharing this with us. Wings of Honneamise and the U.N. Squadron gave me chills. And also Vampire Unit!? Sick! Please elaborate! it looks so cool, I'm sold. Pure gold and from the heyday of anime. I Hope I'm not the only one curious about Vampire Unit
Johnny, plz consider making a shirt w/ one of your manga drawings with "TOO SATANIC!" under it..that's such a funny catchphrase and awesome artwork :)
Amazing. Favorite HCG epsiode.
awesome to see you old art again :)
Mr Shimizu R.I.P :). We also had a weird art teacher who would throw ereasers at us. Still he was one of the few teachers who actually was nice to me, so I liked him. I like drawing as well and that probably helped. Art teachers always the weirdest people huh? Good memories.
You chocked me the fuck up when you started playing the Xenogears music Johnny.
"Sit down class" that starting made me lol
"Only got an 8/10, fuck you Mr. Shimizu..."'
😆
Great video. Loved the artwork man...pick it up again! From one to another. I also had a teacher who would talk to me after class and say things like, "do they have to be demons? Can't they be wild animals or something?" This was middle school (grade 6, 7 here in U.S.). 😐 It was a really interesting assignment where we had to design, illustrate, and write our own books. Looking back, it read a lot like Demon Knight, that old Tales from the Crypt movie, lol I'm sure it would have been way too satanic for Shimizu-San.
Pretty kick ass work. I think that Vampire Unit stuff is something i'd have ended up buying back in the day. Nice!
LOL! Never thought of it like that. Hahahaha
Johnny makes me nostalgic for things i never experienced
Very cool art. Very nice story. Very touching. Rip MR. shimizu
Great video Mr. Shimizu seems like a calm and serene guy :)
In memory if Mr. Shimizu and all those teachers from our childhood that cared for us.
Reminds me of wonder years when Kevin Arnolds talks about his math teacher
wow you're a very talented artist dude!
Your art is amazing Johnny. Btw long time no see your channel. Glad to see you again. Salute.
Really wished I had an art teacher like Mr.Shimizu, all of mine were crazy hippies who got jealous if someone drew better than them.
Dude is your surname really millennium?, because if it is that's fucking awesome!
Zu is probably his first name. The Orient are Last Name (first), Middle Name (second), then First Name( last).
Man your closet must be like a Tardis for all the cool stuff you manage to dig out of it.
Also I'd love some news about whether Lords of Thunder will ever come back, I was really enjoying it.
I had an art teacher in college that would limit our artistic freedoms. She would have everyone doing the same exact art work. I was completely against that way of thinking. So I made sure in all my projects I would go above and beyond on my work while making them nothing like what she would ask us to do. Needless to say I didn't do to well in her class. Ps. Think I just cried at the end of your video.
I might do a video with mine. he's really good, even drew some realistic star wars stuff recently on a sidewalk on our town. and that was without mistakes. he taught me about Photoshop and is better at film then I am. I still go back to him sometimes and ask him questions. and that was over ten years ago whenbhe taught me. he is passionate about art and still enjoys teaching those who want to learn. Lol he even cosplayed at PCC last year.
Man...the Xenogears music with the final images got to me. Some cool stuff here.
Damn, those colours really held up over the years!
