You know, the 60's show wasn't "so bad it's good". The show was goofy on purpose. It worked as an action show for kids, but was meant to have comical value as well. For what it was, I think it was very well-made.
So it's so good it's bad.
rest in peace, Adam West
Yeah rest in peace Adam West and Carrie Fisher who were both in Family as Peter's boss and Mayor Adam West.
R.I.P Yvonne Craig.
Glue Stick And Adam West.
Love the old style music during combat sessions...it would be great if there was the onomatopoeia too...XD
I thought I'd take the time to thank you for constantly staying be the Dark Knight's side. I spent most of my childhood enthralled by the caped crusader and love the nostalgia factor. Some of my best family memories revolve around my dad showing me the Batman from his youth (60s) and talking about how different he was from mine (Animated series, Justice League) Even now that I'm 19 we discuss the lore the same way you do with Kwife, and I really appreciate that there are fans that dedicated to Batman. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos.
Please do episode about batman the animated series as that is what got me into batman
I wonder if Adam West is still around?
thebarrelwalker He is.
He is, he's voicing himself in Lego Batman 3
Alex Larraga Cool!
In my opinion Adam West Batman is just as valid as Bale Batman.
Um no
regulerlife Um yeah.
ShadowofBatman
I would have agreed if you said Kevin Conroy or Michael Keaton, because Christian Bale (and anything related to the Nolan's trilogy) wasn't Batman.
ShadowofBatman I agree, Adam West is either equal to or superior to Bale.
regulerlife Every version of Batman is valid.
Lot of sloppy research and disinformation here. Actually CBS was going to develop a serious Batman series in the early 60s- eventually- it wound up at ABC where they commissioned a reluctant William Dozier to develop the show. Both Dozier and ABC decided on a lighter so- called 'campy' tone (in keeping with the Mod Pop Art culture of the mid 1960s) which was kept to a minimum for the first half season--but then devolved into pure absurdity by the second season.
Also a blatant mistake, the 1989 Batman movie DOES show Batman's origin, it shows his parents being gunned down in front of him when he was a child, it just doesn't happen at the START of the film, where we do see a mugging happen which Batman halts.
I mean this sounds like a tiny thing but if you'd seen the movie you'd KNOW this shit, it's one of the most emotional parts of the film. God, man.
The ending with Mr Freeze is awesome.
What do you mean Burton movies didn't have origin? 1989 Batman had origin!
julie newmar wasnt in batman the movie in 1966 because she was making another movie at the time
Kwing Adam west was the very first Batman of my childhood and it broke my heart when he passed away
I was 10 in 1966; at that time, many L.A. studios (not just Universal) had studio tours. For my birthday, we went to 20th Century Fox. There, parked at a curb, was the Batmobile! For this 10 year old watching the series first run on TV with the cliffhangers making us watch the next night, on the same bat channel at the same bat time, it was one of the highlights of my birthday. (The other was touring, that same day, inside the Jupiter 2 from Lost in Space - but I digress!)
Thanks for your informative post!
Cool so your 60
Thanks for a glimpse into the past of Batman the TV series. I enjoy Batman a lot and the more I learn about him, and his creation, the more I get fascinated.
In Lego Batman 3, Adam West will be a playable character voiced by Adam West. It'll be like Stan Lee in Lego Marvel.
i know right even though i with marvel i like kwing
That skin looks so realistic, it's actually pretty bizarre.
Awesome history and commentary for the 1966 batman. Funny how alot of stuff worked out in the 1966 show. Would have been interesting if eartha kitt had actually been cast as a guest heroine vixen. It just would have suited her more. I hope that the producers for the new tv show gotham will get burt ward in the show. I think burt would be awesome in it making guest apperances
Very entertaining episode. I really enjoyed it. Thanks!
Do BTAS TV show history please
i met Burt Ward at a Savemart Supermarket in Modesto,ca. he was pretty cool! i got him to autograph the back of my Savemart receipt, lol.
R.I.P Adam West
I can tell he puts a lot of work in his vids but also enjoys doing them. :)
very cool - great narration and game play :)
This video about the 1960"s Adam West Batman tv series is educatonal, it would have been interesting to see the 60's Batman play Thomas Wayne. This info for the origin of the 1960's series is fantastic.I might get the 1960's Batman dvd. In addition, to being aired Saturday night 7pm to 8pm on the retro channel Memorable Entertainment Television (METV); it airs almost daily/daily on IFC.
I can't wait to add it to my collection as well. I have waited so long!:D
Awesome video as always
Thanks kwing I learned a lot more post series stuff like west vs the burton movie and west in lego batman 3
I love the 1960 batman show
Me too
yea sick.
Good Wednesday series Kwing, I'm learning a lot of the cape crusader with these videos, talk about something similar with the 1989 movie next time.
Thank God Batman is still with us to this day.
Late now, but I did like very much the Batman '66 comics arc, both as a story in its own right and as a way for today's DC to "make peace" with the live TV show.
love this series of vids
This was an excellent commentary! I took notes and have some new Batman/Adam West resources to look up. Btw...I'm a middle-aged mom with adult kids, but I remember running to the TV in the seventies to catch Batman. I had a little-girl crush on Robin, lol
BATMAN IS MY FAVOURITE SUPERHERO
Hey kwing I will never forget when my fourth grade teacher and I would talk about batman. She grew up in California and lived next door to Burgress Meredith. She actually was invites on set at on point. But she told me it was very tragic when he died.
RIP Adam West the only batman
Yes he was the Best Batman ever and so is Kevin Conroy
@broadway boys WRONG! Christian Bale is EASILY the best Batman. West doesn't even come close!
I am going to get the series on DVD
nice vid and ending
Great narrative on the series. Very informative. I was 12 when the show appeared on ABC. I've been waiting for the release on DVD. I paid a ridiculous amount for a set that was recorded off someone's DVR.
this was interesting kwing i have learned alot more about batmAN NOW THANKS
Over here in the UK it is shown on the channel ITV in the morning. I think it has been on for years and is what got me more interested into the show. My first proper memory of the series was watching the 1966 movie. I thought you were going to talk about the parody character Adam West played, Catman from Fairly Odd Parents when you were talking about West's roles because I've heard you and Kwife talk about that show in other videos. I know it isn't Batman but it is Adam West playing a parody of Batman.
Thank you I didn't even know batgirl was in because I always watch the second and first seasons
You just became a hero this day my friend!
Im really looking forward to the box set planning to get it on dvd, like 60% haven't seen and seeing the death traps (always get out of) again which is stupid but awesome
I got the DVD version for my birthday. Best present ever!
That is a cool outro!
cool video kwing i've only seen the movie for this and yes i'm getting this in november
So getting the DVD!
They did really good on that skin, very realistic
I'm definitely getting it on dvd I know my parents would watch it cuz they grew up with the show
Kwing I was wondering if one day you could do a video about the history of Alfred? because I think it would make a very interesting video. Thanks you're awesome.
I actually met Burt Ward recently when he recently attended a Rochester Red Wings Game. I got his Autograph, shook his hand and took a picture in front of the 60's Batmobile (A Replica anyway).
I will definitely be picking up the DVD
I like your storytelling skills =o
You are awesome kwing! What do you think about the fact that nightwing is appearing in Arrow?
HOLY I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS SKIN IN A GAMEPLAY VIDEO BATMAN!
Wow!!!! I had know idea they switched the people out as villains. That's crazy! Awesome information I'm gonna go watch the original series now.
Julie Newmar not Namar... A little pronunciation problem with a few of the actors names. Other than that a very good video packed full of need to know facts.
Also Kwing, could you do a Batman Beyond lore video? I love the show and it would be awesome for you to talk about it.
500,000 grand?
that's 500,000,000
That's 500 Hundred Million
+TetchyEquation 500 Hundred Million?
500,000,000,000?
That's 5 Hundred Billion.
KWing, what do you mean the `89 Batman doesn't have an origin? When Bruce has a flashback sequence, they show his parents being killed, and a younger version of Jack Napier asks him "Do you ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" before running off.
I know that this is often attributed as a dream, and Bruce might even be placing Jack in that role to justify going after him, but that kind of counts as an origin, since we see the Waynes go down.
(Apparently, there was a deleted scene in that film that was to feature an appearance for Robin, for the next film, when Billy Dee Williams was to become Two-Face. Instead, we got Tommy Lee Jones play half-joker and Jim Carrey playing the other half-Joker.)
Knowing that it could have been West and Newmar, though, I think that would have made it better.
The return to the batcave movie did kind of show just how big Adam's ego was, so it doesn't surprise me that West didn't want to appear, unless he was Bruce Wayne, just ignoring that he was a grandfather at that point in time.
The ending of this episode reminds me of the last episode of brave and the bold were batman says that no matter how he is, he'll always protect the innocent and uphold justice, anyone else think think I that at the ending?
The Riddler from that show will always haunt my nightmares. He was so excitable and jumpy until he came close to killing Batman and then he's go really quiet. It was just so unnerving to me as a kid.
I learned a lot of info about the cast and the prices of the batman
Shows
rip adam west 1928 - 2017
I love all the spoofs in cartoons based on the TV show. I like Catman from Fairly Odd Parents and Weaselman(Ferret)? from Kim Possible. Plus they got Adam West voice those characters!
can't wait for the dvd and blueray release!
I am a huge batman fan and I know everything about him
The 60's show reruns in the 70's were my first taste of Batman outside of comics and i loved it. I am glad ABC took that risk with it.
The Adam West show and the team up with Scooby Doo got me into Batman
Cool! Who knew the TV Batman was so faithful to the comics??
That "Adam West BATMAN skin" ought to also have been in "Injustice: Gods Among Us" game. its sweet to know that Batman: Arkham Origins features it as an alternate skin for Batman to wear/put on though!
That old Batman Movie was awesome!
K wing your amazing I love your channel
I'm getting the blu ray on my birthday.
Love the channel and the Batman lore. I've read knightfall just like you suggested and its wonderful. Came across your channel looking for Batman Arkham games walthrough to just watch and yours stuck because of the information that you provide, wondering if you havr any extra copies of Arkham City for Xbox 360 from the giveaway thay you might be willing to part with.
Holy History Batman Kwing said things i never knew thank you Kwing!
R.I.P. Adam West
good video can you make a video about the bat gadgets
if adam west does have gadgets it should include the shark repellent and the huge bomb from the 60's movie with his dialogue "some days you just can't get rid of a bomb" that would be classic!
Now that u mention what West did when the Burton's movie was coming out it reminds me a lot of a Scooby Doo especial where something really similar happens, I guess Hannah-Barbera also wanted to express their common feeling towards the Burton film or they just wanted to make fun of that moment xD
The 1960's series was the one that brought me to Batman watching it with my grandfather
can you tell me if, at some point when the fights were happening on the video game, the music cuts to the 1960s fight music, is that in the game or did you do it yourself?
Himself
I've never seen much of the TV series itself, but I saw the movie adaptation and loved it. Some people may not like the humor, but I find it remarkably charming and delightfully silly.
There was two actors who played the Riddler in the 60s show Frank Gorshin and Jon Astin who also played Gomez Adams in the Addams Family tv series. There were three actors who played Mr. Freeze Otto Preminger ,Eli Wallach, and I forget the first actor. Three actress's played Catwoman, Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, and Eartha Kitt. Its a great show and cast. * Fun fact* Alan Napier who played Alfred in the 60s show was very good friends with Michael Gough who played Alfred in the Burton and Shumacher's Batman movies. Cool review.
George Sanders was the first actor to play Mr. Freeze on the TV show. Sanders also did the voice of Shere Khan in Disney's Jungle Book movie. Sanders was one of Zsa Zsa Gabor's many husbands. Zsa Zsa was also on the Batman TV show as a villainess named Minerva.
Awesome !!! I been re-watching Batman Tv Series since they for the first time ever relasedit on Blu-Ray and dvd. I watched the episode with George Sanders as Mr. Freeze.I realized I haven't seen it in years that why I couldn't remember his name. All I could remember about the man that he committed a dramatic suicide. I had no idea he was married to Zsa Zsa Gabor. I have a good feeling that most of the actors and actresses that played the villains were in the same social circle before and after the show.
Hey kwing how much does it cost and the video was awesome you and batman ftw
Burt Ward was in a movie called Virgin High back in the 90's.
Always enjoyed that song Burt Ward recorded w/ Frank Zappa as producer.
Fun Fact Time: The show had planned on getting Clint Eastwood to play Two-Face. I personally enjoy the idea of this interpretation. However, even with an altered backstory as a news reporter, Harvey was still considered "too gruesome and too violent" of a character for "The Bright Knight" and was ultimately passed over.
Frank Zappa is awesome
Kwing, you should do the history of Batman: The Animated Series for your next Arkham episode.
Not for a long time. Doing a simple lore video next week. This History video took about 2 weeks of research and i had to find the music from the show, transition effects..not something that can be done quick.
the original catwoman actor in the 1966 series was filming another movie so they had to get another catwoman especially for that movie @12:10
Adam West will probably be like stan lee in lego marvel in Lego Batman 3
I actually found and got the Batman The Movie when was really small and I have it to this day oh I found it at a Cosco
It is completely beyond me how somebody can not like the Nolan Movies. I love almost every Version of Batman, and I can't think of one thing Nolan did wrong. Those are the best action movies ever made, maybe not the best Batman incarnations, but still.
First time I'm seeing someone say that The Dark Knight Trilogy are the best action movies of all time. The only movie I personally do not like is The Dark Knight. I love Batman Begins though and have a liking for The Dark Knight Rises
I'm getting it on DVD
Holly Cow Batman! It's a new Kwing vid!
I grew up in the 90s and I had a very similar entrance to the Dark Knight as Kwing, growing up watching reruns of the old show(which was on Sci Fi for a long while) and of course The Animated Series and what have you. A good chunk of things I knew of the lore but a lot I did not know! One of my favorite episodes(except for the two parters villain) was The Batman and The Green Hornet special, its one of my personal favorite episodes of that show. Though Kwing did you ever watch ScrewAttacks episode of Death Battle way back of Batman Vs Spider-Man? I may be a fan of both characters but I did enjoy the entire fight including it's outcome,I won't spoil in case you havn't seen it. I will say its episode is based on a gladiator set up where neither character (due to both like doing this) has zero time to research how the other fighter operates.
I love arkham wednesdays. Another great and interesting video kwing.
Holy interactive menus
I know this video is 3 years old, but wanted to point out that you said Adam West reprised his role in THE NEW ADVENTURES OF BATMAN (the 70s cartoon) but Burt Ward also reprised his role as Robin in that show.
Lego Batman 3 With Adam West! Holy Toledo Batman!
Playing origins rn and listening to lore with k wing
