7.3L Godzilla Powered Shelby Cobra MkIIIR | Superformance 30th Anniversary

- To say I'm a fan of the Superformance Shelby Cobra is a massive understatement! This 30th Anniversary model is my new favorite from Superformance combining the CSX number in the Shelby Registry along with having the stronger more rigid Superformance chassis and that 600 HP Ford Godzilla engine so sit back and enjoy the ride...

All that torque in something that weighs no more than a go-cart is just an automatic death trap. I love it.
Guess u don't know about most Custom Performance Ecu etc Anti-lock brakes. Ie Mot ec ecu easily controls 1500hp Rwd lambo so . An guessing it's an astronomical asking price im sure a ecu an Tcs couple $1000
@@DaVe-iSnOtHoMe.MaN.LemmingsWeB I know a little more than you'd assume based on a single comment, Dave.
@@DaVe-iSnOtHoMe.MaN.LemmingsWeB If someone can afford A Shelby .anything. 4 digits to us is the equivalent of pennies to them. 😉
or how to drive a car with more than 300hp....lol @@DaVe-iSnOtHoMe.MaN.LemmingsWeB
You'll have to be at 100% EVERYTIME you take this car out..
Dude I'm European. I've never bin so excited to get up at 02.00 in the morning to see this car. Shit it's 19:56 p.m. in Denmark right now but I'm gonna stay up for this one!. Nothing beats V8+Side pipes. Shelby GT 500, Shelby Cobra, Nascars I don't care! They just sound like rattling 2 roaring male lions in a tin can. And THEN they rev it! Can't wait!
This thing sounds so good and makes great decal pops! Get some rest and I’ll be there watching when it goes live
It’s cool knowing there’s Europeans that like American cars
@@jd39046 I believe that the country Sweden is the most concentrated in American muscle cars, only beaten by the US itself... Oh yeah we like 'em alright! 😀
@@AutotopiaLAIs there any way you can link the video, where you accidentally scares some old mans horses?..
@@jd39046 _Englishman here_ You should see our car show scene!
I have a mildly tuned Godzilla with a 10 speed auto in my F250. I hear the same exhaust notes a rpm. The torque is real for sure. What a beautiful example.
Superformance makes great cars. I have more than 22,000 miles on my GT40 MKI. My only complaint is Superformance's complete lack of after-sales support. There is no meaningful documentation on vehicle maintenance. If you're not an experienced mechanic or have access to a shop that knows Superformance products, you're out of luck.
The Cobra was the Gnarliest car ever built. That 7.3 looks good in there.
1967 cheetah cobra killer😅
U can just tell that ford giggled when they made this engine and the "let's put it in a super duty" was their excuse lol
I hate old cars!! The Shelby Cobra 427 is the ONLY old car I love/appreciate!
Gen 1 viper
She sure is a dream. Thank you all at AutotopiaLA for making it possible to be able to see something like this.
This thing is a big engine with roller skates! Awesome💪💪💪
Got my 7.3 Superformance MKIII last year. Not an anniversary addition but a beast nonetheless. It makes my inner 12y.o. giggle
@@MrKelly-oc5kqwhat happened to it? Sounds awesome
@@MrKelly-oc5kqsweeeeet
I’m sure a motor made for one ton trucks feels like an absolute torque monster in that little go cart! I love the exhaust, not too loud and obnoxious, just enough tone when you’re on it and a few fun little pops when u get off it.
The car chase scene in BadBoys 1 thats when I fell in love with the Cobra.
One of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen. Incredible.
saw this car setup at sema, godzilla stuffed into a cobra. so glad to see you drive this
I was happy to see Shaun driving and laughing at same time. So beautiful and enjoyable car 😉👍🏻
That engine is one thing that Ford didn't mess up on
Ford GT, GT500, GT350, Boss 302 and so many others, where are they messing up? On their daily driver production stuff?
@@ford-oz3vs yup
@@dinorossi6611 I hope you’re Governor Rossi. 😎
@@ford-oz3vs "One thing" they didn't mess up on is figure of speech. Ford has plenty of great accomplishments and you just mentioned a few more. The video is about that engine so that's what I commented about
@@ford-oz3vs close, close :)
Unwavering dedication and humility make you a standout. Congrats!
when i clicked on this vid i was like "please drive it please drive it please drive it"
We drive everything!
Great build. Exhaust tone is somewhat mellow but smooth. Love it
I owned a SuperFormance Cobra (chassis 1038). It had a Ford Racing 392, and it was a beast. I can't imagine adding another 200-300hp!
And 400 or so in torque
Just the look of that car, the stance and the livery is, to me the most sinister looking Cobra I’ve ever seen
Only MISSING a Crazy* Time Attack*** Aero Kit front splitter / Cunnard's an THEN Side skirts and Electric vaccum Fan Assisting rear diffuser an full flat undertray. Lol
The first time I took notice of the Shelby Cobras was in the mid 60s when I was a kid in grade school and my brother put together a model car of the Cobra.
The stripes remind me of the Shelby GT500 Super Snake LeMans stripes, love it. Would love to own one some day.
Great job with the new videography and narration. Man.., even the sound is top notch. Nicely done!
The drone shots add a level of epic👍
Perfect video Shawn and Co. Absolutely love the in car views and that sound ! WOW. ❤🇨🇦
That has to be the best sounding V8. It's magic and naughty at the sametime. It's both mature and brash at the sametime.
Nice job Ethan on showing the car. Shawn I’ve never seen you like this with any other car. You clearly enjoyed the driving of this car a TON. The color scheme is definitely unique. Shawn you should get one. Maybe not the 225k one, but you should get one.
Wow! The video worth the wait! The car is a gem. Congrats to the owner! Hope he puts it to good use, including some outings to the track. I’m picturing in my mind that Cobra and the Vicious Mustang having fun at Laguna Seca! 🤩
I've had BOTH my eyes on a Factory Five Daytona coupe for a long, LONG time... The Cobra as a kid was a GOD! .... I'm torn.... 100 % This is one bad ASS clean fkn Cobra !
Both are great options. I got myself a MK4 Roadster from Factory 5. Loving the build process. I’d recommend if you’re into it
Get the coupe and build an all aluminum small block that revs to like 10,000 RPMs....... Put a 6-speed behind it with a little space in between the gears and try not to get your picture taken while you're driving because the smile that will be on your face will surely be embarrassing........ But worth every minute
Also what are you going to do when it rains stay the hell home? Rear wheel drive cars that are lightweight with lots of power are a lot of fun in the wet! But not if you're getting wet yourself......... Screw those look at me look at me look at me cars........ Floppy no roof jalopies!....., there's a reason why you've had two eyes on a coupe..,..... Unlike that little guy sitting on your shoulder telling you the right thing to do....... There's no horns on my head just a car guy Halo
@@tommytwotone81 So. Cal. gets less than 12" of rain on average a year, and I'm sure he has something with a roof to drive on the wet days. lol
One of your best… interaction with you both was great, like a couple of kids… great stuff! In the end I really want that car - mission accomplished.
He’s a good pal and we definitely had fun as you could tell. Only 9 left as of yesterday
Love the Cobra and plan to build a “replica” here in my country! But like many new versions of it I’m not shooting for an exact copy, but a restomod with a modern Ford V8 engine and transmission, CF race seats and other parts, modern chassis, independent suspension and 18” wheels. Kind of the new AC Cobra launched last year. About the engine, after reading a few books and watch God knows how many videos, I found there’s a catch: although we all love the big 427 engine, race drivers of the day hated the upgrade from the 289, because it wrecked the handling of the car. Also, with such a short wheelbase, the immense torque of the 427 at low rpm is responsible for most of the spins and crashes with the Cobra when the driver gets too excited. So, it’s something to think about🧐. Can’t wait for the video! Thanks, Shawn!
That level of torque is a lot to deal with. This Godzilla makes around 600 hp so I was very mild driving it but such a fun experience. I really need one of these
They do tend to want to swap ends for sure. I rode in a buddies CSX a few years back. It had the aluminum block ~485 ci, 580 HP stroker FE. It was a total animal and would just annihilate the road race rear tires.
Mar, think about this, the last years of the true AC Ace's before Carroll Shelby contacted AC to drop a 289 and then a 427 into them to make them Cobra's, they had the AC Ace Ruddspeed with a Ford Zephyr derived 2.6L I6 with a rack of SU's or Webber's hanging off the side.... how about my idea, a Ford Barra 195 I6 with some headwork, higher compression, and a rack of ITB's making in excess of 300hp....300hp is literally nothing as they make close to that stock the 195's at 261hp and 288lb-ft, depending on the headwork and tune, you'd probably be easily able to surpass 400hp without real effort, and both having the closest to "original" as all the AC's of this "model" had I6's until Carrol, and the most unique as I know nobody nor have seen anyone ever show they've put the infamous Barra I6 in one.... literally win-win 👌
@@johnnygeorgopoulos4072For sure, it would be a sensible and logical option like you described! But, I’ve had a tuned C6 Z06 Corvette in the past and now I own a modern 911 and a MB AMG Roadster. Both are 6cil. bi-turbo engine cars (tuned of course 😈). So, Although I love my cars, I miss my American V8 so much…Every Sunday morning I turned it on for a drive, that cold start made me smile like a silly kid. Yeah, against your logic I need a V8. 😎
Man that Cobra is beautiful!
What a beast! Love it! That sound is to die for.
I could be driving and listening that engine sound.....all day long............cheers!.
Bitchin limited edition MkIIIR , always a good day when Superformance come on the channel. Love the subtle change to the rims
LOL the look between you two at 24:12 is gold, the child like giggles. Awesome car and video, my dream car, any model would do me.
Lots of giggles and laughs driving these cars. I really need this one…badly!
Now it literally sounds like my Ford service body F-350.
I have a 7.3 Godzilla with headers, dual exhaust and a 5 Star tune in my Super Duty....love it and its used daily for towing my heavy equipment into jobsites and tows a 16k boat. I want a 7.3 S.P. Cobra next year as my retirement car. Carroll was brilliant when he invented this car.
What a stunning work of art
Sounds friggin' amazing. Must be a blast to drive
Tuning in from Buffalo, New York. BEAST MODE Cobra for sure!
Nickel City
Such a badass Cobra build, looks like a great driver, something you can actually enjoy taking out.
I think if I had a Shelby Cobra Clone, I'd have to put a Ford 427 Boss, or 427R (Roush) in it.. they cost $15000+, but it'd be a little more OG, and 530-550 hp stock. I'm sure a few of the Cobras that are in the background of that shop are outfitted with the 427! Either way, this 7.3l Cobra is a true monster, I bet that thing is wicked fun and turns heads everywhere it goes. Awesome unit.
Need some back to back sound clips with the 427ci.
This one sounds pretty smooth.
That color combo, that engine... man that car is super hot.
that thing looks good
So good! I’m in love
EPIC. I’d want that Motor in a more low key CSX / Superformance stock spec
WOW!!! THAT is BEAUTIFUL!!
I can't imagine being able to say, yeah there's only 30 of these amazing cars in the world...and i own one!❤
The Cobra was and always will be a beautiful car on every level. Horsepower, breathtaking body curves and neck snapping performance. Everything converged to create the perfect car.
I would like to see AutotopiaLA link up with Jay Leno's garage and do a review of the 7.3L Shelby Cobra MkIIIR I'm sure Jay Leno would be impressed of the power and speed of this Shelby Cobra.
Another bad ass ride….thx Sean
Loved them ever since I was a kid & this car is beautiful lads.
My Goodness!!!!! Masterpiece!!!!!
Okay this is insanity 🔥🔥🔥
Absurdly, outrageously fabulous. My favourite car of all time
Sounds AWESOME!!! That has to be a BLAST to drive!! Love this car!!! ❤️😎✌️
Owned SPF2245, was a great car and ran a Roush 427, best blend of modern manufacturing coupled with the original design and concept
Almost same, mines a MK3. I don't know if they've improved on that TREMEC transmission, but mine is awful. It's heavy, clumsy, slow, noisy, and easy to miss a shift. I've been meaning to get a short throw shifter kit for it.

Well, my favorite car just got better!
Absolutely beautiful
This is literally the shape of my heart as far as cars are concerned. If money were no object, i'd have a few of these and then a daily. To me it is the most gorgeous car in the world.
Backdraft is exceptional
Personally I like Superformance cars better but just my opinion
I drove a race-prepped 289 real Cobra with Webers and it was gnarliest ride I’ve ever experienced.
😬 im gonna shit already! Been waiting for someone to do something epic with the godzilla! Love the show brother, so much fun, keeps the inspiration going.
Awesome! I love that they fit Godzilla into this car! I’ll be watching at 5 tonight
Thing looks sick!
Side thought, wonder what a Ruffian Cobra would look like 🤔
I hear you man!! Chris is such a great builder, but an even greater guy and friend. I've talked to him a few times and he's always super kind. I can't even imagine what a Ruffian Cobra would look like. Amazing I'm sure!
It's insane! Love it!
god damn, that looks beautiful
Your introduction was all the money ..besides Godzilla 😎
Thank Max!
Love that canyon
Me too! It’s where I grew up
That engine wedged into a Series 1 repro would be heaven on earth. Not that the MkIII isn't dreamy itself, I always liked the lines on the Series 1.
This is a dream car for many of us watching this.
I'm not a big fan of Cobra cars. But this one right here is so great. Build with passion, big engine in it and finish on another level. Great episode. Greetings
Beautiful Car, and that bass exhaust tone just amazing. I love it, how much do I want one.....
Great video, what a monster.
An absolute beast of a car sounds incredible ❤👌
Wow …. What a great drive!!!
Outstanding!
Who remembers Outrunners the Arcade Game Classic from SEGA , after Outrun Arcade Classic!❤🙏🔥
What a killer car man. So badass.
Killer video as always
That's is the King of Cool.😊
That car is a work of art.
I love these shelby remakes, hope to own one some day
Me too!
Gotta love the 7.3L Godzilla powered Shelby Cobra Replica brother
Shelby wouldn’t say anything he’d be halfway down the track sideways screaming yaaahoooo like the duke boys 😂
Torque. It’s what moves you through the brick wall. Awesome car
Thats it, thats me. THAT'S the Cobra that I want. If I have the money before I die, this will be one of the few extravagances I will afford myself. I've wanted a Cobra for some time, But, this is the car that I want, engine and all, right here. Done deal. Thank you for this video.
what a build !
sounds VERY good!
Another great episode. 👍
Thank you. Great car!
😂🤣 in Minnesota 55° is shorts weather 😂🤣. Very interested in the new Ford big block
Such a treat
What an awesome toy this would be to have.
Beautiful car its a monster with 600hp!
I'm with Mr. Carroll Shelby, we watch the video, and he tells me that he is very happy with the result.
Love it! I think he definitely approves
Shelby would be proud that his legacy will live on forever, id kill for a real Shelby
Another great vid!!
Great Crate Motor, built for trucks so it's not high buck, like a 5.0, super modern heads, light weigh castings, torque curve like a pool table. What a great combo!
Yeah the 615hp crate version is only $23k lol…
☝️✍️ one of the most iconic shows
Thank you for that
Thank you so much for this awesome insight! Also, my super-cool father programmed the ECU for this motor. Makes a girl feel all tingly with pride when it roars away.
Pretty sweet...
