I purchased a brand new 2021 GTI instead of waiting for the MKVIII specifically because I do not like the body styling or the lack of previous features the MKVIII offers. I've observed a few instances where to me, VW seems to of "cheaped out" on some features that I myself find important. Things like practically no interior knobs to quickly control anything, an electric e-brake instead of a handle, a knob gear shifter on the DSG equipped models, a generic engine cover and a front hood no longer held up by shocks. I'm sure there other things I missed, but you get the picture. No offense to anyone who has purchased a MKVIII, my observations are not meant to diminish the the performance or quality in any way. Any year of GTI is amazing.
The new Polo GTI is the true sucessor to the first golf, its small and stuffed with a great spritely motor., the new modern Golf is a bloated car compared to the first GTI so you have to go with the polo for the closest car today to the originnal and it shares the DNA
the first GTI was 150 inches long, the new Golf is 169 Inches long the new polo gti 160 inches long, the new GTI gold is almoist 20 inches longer ., thats huge,

I know you are just showing the physical difference of each generation, but it would be great if you could have listed the performance specs as well.
I've had a MK2 and now own a MK6. Love VWs
