This week we blast back to the 80s & 90s with some of my favourite childhood toys! It's incredible just how complicated detailing can be on simple subjects. I also break-down my best practices when it comes to getting incredible detail without over-painting!

I don't often comment on UA-cam videos but I thoroughly enjoyed watching that. Fantastic work.
Marvelous painting as expected -- but even more marvelous is knowing that these items sit on your drawing table and are part of what makes you who you are! Significant artifacts.
It make me a massive nerd, love it! Thanks Michelle, glad you enjoyed the video!
"Sorry I can't come to the phone right now, Andrew Tischler's painting a VELOCIRAPTOR"
I love your excitement about your toys
Well, that was excellent!! Thanks for letting us in! Thanks for bringing up those fine memories!💎
Love those final details and that ivory 000 rigger
Andrew - I've watched and experienced your kindness and generosity in projecting and teaching the world about you and your art for some years now. It's fabulous to take onboard your ideas, techniques, and the simple fact you actually produce the goods in a friendly, inspiring and to-the-point presentations without flim-flam. So from Yorkshire in the UK my warmest thanks for your remote support teaching qualities and brilliant, just brilliant oil paintings. I salute you.
Such enthusiasm!! I just love watching you make magic-plus I get to take your ideas to my painting!! Just love it!! Keep it coming.
You had a Thunderbird 2?!?
FAB! 😀
I love it! The lesson in tonality is superb. I learned a lot by watching this video. In my studio I am surrounded by childhood toys, pictures, and other memorabilia that just makes me happy. It's hard to not be inspired when you're surrounded with happy memories. I would love to see what you could do with some of your wife's cherished things. A girly collection would be fun to see what you could do with it, plus you would get brownie points for creating something she would cherish. Great work!
This was a great video. Lots of fun as well. I couldn't find your e-book that you offered, and I know it would be so helpful. I'm retired (77 years old), and other than a handful of paintings for family I am a novice. Thank you. I entered my e-mail again so you could find it. God bless you!! Annette Fields
wow !!! what a great painting !!!!! bravo
The love my husband and I share with 80s and 90s films inspires many of the art pieces inside our own home! Back To The Future is an all time favorite, and this still life was so incredibly inspiring!! Thanks so much
P.S. "Earth Angel" was of course our wedding song
Your work is state of the art. I am so amazed to see plastic toys look so classical
Details have to be earned - love that way of putting it!
I love this demo, but I also have to say your studio guide is a real treasure. I'm very glad I used the link and got it downloaded. There is a LOT of information packed into it.
Andrew , blown away as usual, the painting describes my history with 1 element to still lurking/hiding in the background. Dr Who's Tardis. Must try for myself after finishing a double portrait.
Oh man, the Tardis would have been gravy! I wish I had that one!
Wow! I don't know how you made managed to get such a perfect sketch, with just a brush! You're so very talented. Thank you for sharing. Fantastic as usual!
Cheers my fellow Gen X 🍻🍻🍻
yes. just yes! .....this video rocks!....i am going to look for my old toys right now........in the name of art of course....
Brilliant news! Happy painting!
Excellent video as a fact of its creation. A wonderful story of each toy that brings together a lot of pleasant memories of the past 80s. And I remember those times too. This painting is valuable not only as a teaching material but also for its unique story. I admire your talent, enthusiasm, energy, passion in painting, inspiration and desire to share your incredible knowledge with us. Thank you so much, Andrew, you are the best!
Thanks so much for that wonderful comment Mariya!

This is simply wonderful! You’re terrific ❣️
Thank you Chris!
Love this and all things 80s!
The best
one of the giants painter on earth - Andrew Tischler
“They’re not toys they’re collectibles!” 😂 I’d say in today’s age most people think it’s cool to have older toys and collectibles or statues. I sure do.
Right on Jeremy!
They are not collectables, they are Crown Jewels, .... other people may look but only you get to play!
I remember seeing it in the theatre, the summer it was released... one of the biggest movies that year.
Which one? I remember Jurassic park in the theatre, it was freakin EPIC!
@@AndrewTischlerArt All of them, really, save Thunderbirds, I did see that in a re-release however in the theatre... When I was very small, about 8ish? But Back to the Future, (1,2 & 3), GhostBusters, Aliens, Top Gun, Star Wars (1, 2 & 3) Jurassic Park... all great movies for the time...
a masterpiece 😊
Sei bravissimo!!!!!
amazing tutorial ❤. Thanks for sharing this.
Complimenti! ❤
Amazing
I was a kid in the late 60's and 70's so my toys were different. Heh heh.
Bangin Still life man, love the subject matter and your beautiful mark making. ❤ Sadly, lead white is banned here in Ireland, though we'll struggle on somehow! Thanks for sharing your incredible knowledge 🙏.
11:00 Agree!!
Cordial saludo desde Bogotá Colombia maestro, tus vídeos vienen con subtítulos en español?
You did this painting across different sessions or alla prima?
Eres la excelencia en el arte pictórico.......🇲🇽🇲🇽....
I love your nerd iness !
I am a fellow nerd too.
Nerds UNITE!
EXCELENTE TECNICA
My favorite still life you did was the memento mori/vanitas one some years ago, The previous toy one was OK, but I have to say I don't feel any connection to back to the future, star wars or Jurassic park. The painting is still good, just not as interesting to me. The previous toy one was interesting because everyone has a connection to discarded plaything from childhood (although, in your case, they aren't discarded), It is indeed a way of working from life, which is great.
Love this, combines a love of art and pop culture! Would love to see your take on the early video games- Space Invaders, Pac Man, Donkey Kong etc. Yes, nerd and proud of it here :-)
bravo bravissimo
What are the names of painters mentioned at 9:20?
Fantastic! Love this! Have you considered trying a movie image or poster like Indiana Jones or something?
Hi Andrew, as one nerd to another ( I’m old enough to have watched Thunderbirds in the 60’s and Star Wars 7 times in the theatre back in ‘77!) this is a really nice painting to see you produce……particularly as you handled such hard objects in such a painterly way. I’ve still been using Titanium White for some of my colour mixing as lead white has been banned in the U.K. and EU for some time now. There is however, a Warm White produced by Michael Harding, that is supposedly a lead white alternative and wondered if you had any thoughts on this? Thanks for another great post!
What medium do you use to color the dark and light areas? Linseed oil? Turpentine oil? Or a linseed + turpentine mix?
What medium oil did you use for dark and light coloring? Terfin ? Linshid ? Or Linshid+Terepin?
Wow
We enjoyed our entertainment back then because the makers were making a story. Now they are all too political, no one wants to be continually preached too! Always enjoy your work.🎉
Can you do a synthwave aesthetic in oils???
Hi Andrew could you send me s copy of the 500 page E-Book Studio Guide for my reference
I was born in 2000 but we definitely watched Star Wars and I mean the real ones ( with Harrison Ford, Cary Fisher, and Mark Hamill) not those new ones. And I watched the the cartoons of Bat Man!!
ماشاء الله انت رائع
