Hi Andrew, it's delightful to hear you explain the process of painting! I can definitely relate to your experience. I recall when I was around 8 or 9 years old, I used to sketch while my teacher was giving her lecture. On one occasion, she reprimanded me, asking why I was drawing instead of paying attention to the lesson. I replied that I was listening and when she challenged me to prove it, I looked back at my sketch and repeated every single word she had said. She was astonished and exclaimed, "You're a genius! What do you want to be when you grow up?"

It tells me that thinking is basically not about words, but about associating images seen, sounds heard and smells and feelings experienced.
It was not a sketch, but a weird piece of rock that I used for the purpose of remembering a certain magical place that I visited at the Algerian coast back in the seventies.
Each time I took out that rock, I remembered vividly the river, the trees and the inland delta, the village nearby where we bought our groceries.
The piece of rock has been lost in the chaos since then, but just remembering its weird surface, brings back all the rest even today.

Thanks for another good one, Andrew! Haven't been able to paint for a couple of months now (Life intervenes sometimes), so this was a nice vicarious break that was also informative. (It wouldn't be a Tischler video if it wasn't!) I want to learn to paint /lay-in with more speed and abandon, so watching your careful but abstract shape placement is always instructive. Big Hugs from Austria. XO

He has done it. So have others. Its about the Blue Atmospheric Tone you put in it. That makes it look more real. And for Pros like him, with good Material, the Glasing he puts on top. Gives it this look of atmosphere in the distance, like a Mirage.
But that is HIGH end Products like his. The Color is Most important for us Normal Painters.

You always have the Front Part, a Open Scape. Not some detailed Bushes etc on the Sides.
Why is that? Perspective? its hard to put some "Leave Branch" or what ever into it without destroying the Depth of the Landscape. Tho, in real Live. Some of the Best views i had started out of a Dence Jungle and went into a Big Landscape. (excuse my english)
