    Another wonderful video. Plying is so important and can make all your hard work spinning singles completely wasted if not done right. Thank you for all the helpful advice!

    Thank you for this, you are so clear with your instruction. I need all the help I can get with plying. I haven't tried plying on my e-spinner and you make it look so easy

      Plying on an espinner is all about finding the rhythm. Try counting when you ply or use a metronome app to help with staying on pace.

    Thanks for the videos. Based on your last one I went down a whorl size and my last yarn plied beautifully. Great tips as always

    Would I look for these same characteristics when plying singles that have been resting for a long time or would I need to wet set a sample yarn to make sure I'm putting in the right amount of twist?
    Im spinning for a sweater but it's taking me a while to finish the singles.

      I would say yes. But also, it depends. How long is a long time. The singles I was plying in the video are well rested, they were spun in July 2023. I would certainly suggest sampling and keeping an unwashed sample hanging on your wheel of the sample twist you like best. Most of my singles are well rested, I rarely(pretty much never) ply immediately after spinning the singles.
      If by a while you mean a few months, I would so go for it. That isn’t a long time, really, and you’d just ply it so the fresh ply looks like what you want your finished yarn to look like. If it has been a year or two or more I might suggest the sampling, as long as the singles aren’t too dear.
      @msdb76 I hope that helps!!

      Hi! Thanks for the video, I whish you had been around when i started spinning! I was just wondering (haven’t finished the video yet), do you adress that how much ply twist you want may depend on the fiber length? Longer staple like gotland : less twist otherwise you end up with rope. I was also wondering what brand/model of espinner you would recommend. I want to go from wheel to espinner, because i moved to a smaller place. Thanks and hi from Canada 😊

      @joseelabrie9955 I think the key is to spin singles that are low twist and ply with high(er) twist. The low twist singles should prevent your yarn from turning to rope. You can’t have high twist singles AND high ply twist. That definitely equals rope!!
      I’d say sample. With your Gotland, take a few grams (10 grams total) and split it in 2. Spin one with higher singles twist and low ply twist. Then do the opposite on the second, low singles twist and high ply twist. Only you can determine which one is preferable to you.
