    Please stop with the bullhorn on Rune's "bad behaviour". He's got a temper, but aside from the Ruud incident there's really nothing to see. He clearly loves tennis and enjoys a fair fight, even with Italian or Spanish audiences acting very badly. Rune explodes onto the biggest stage with such ferocity that his opponents (and their fanboys) try everything to put him in his place. Thing is, his 'place' is at the very top...

    curfew & start at 1.30pm are nonsense! slam difference from master & the rest is 3 out of 5 sets to test players in all aspect! break a game into 2 or 3 like normal tournament due to such reasons then better remove the slam as it defeats all purposes! beside rune/alcaraz, the other 3 matches are straight forward!

  • @JonathanCourtauld
    @JonathanCourtauld Рік тому +4

    Rune definitely emerging as an interesting player. First if he doesn't have physical issues I think he's emerging as a really great match player. He just seems really tenacious and winning the close matches. He also seems to be a really fluent mover and has an excellent ability to hang in the point even when he's on the defensive. Also think he;s very reliable in terms of not making unforced errors and in that regard is more in the Djokovic/ medvedev mould. Guys like Korda, Sinner or Alcaraz just seem to make more errors. Agree with Petch that Rune has great hands round the net and then his backhands is basically top three on tour. Think for Rune the forehand is the slight weakness. He hits it great in to out and down the line and can hit well inside in if he has time in his backhand corner. But feel his cross court forehand off an opponents cross court forehand is weak and maybe really weak. He can mask that by taking an opponents cross court forehand and re-directing down the line but over time think opponents are going to pick up on the fact that for the moment he's not hitting the cross court forehand with any real power or direction.

    • @Dust880

      True Carlos makes a lot of errors - when he's playing sloppy. But when his A game is out - he's formidable. They're both still cooking (can't recall how Djoko was playing at 20 - I think he bloomed late if I remember right - 23?)

Stef has shown that this is an effective strategy when executed well, and I think Chris will use this even more often than he has the rest of the tournament. This will not allow Daniil to stick with the strategy of “quantity of balls” and May be the difference maker.

    That Djokovic vs Hurkacz match was an atrocity on the eyes. It just would not end. Every aspect of Hurkacz’s game outside the serve was terrible, but the serve was so good Djokovic couldn’t even get it in play. Meanwhile Djokovic lost all his rhythm and began spraying errors… ugh. I swear Hurkacz’s average forehand speed was 40 MPH and his depth was nonexistent. The biggest challenge Djokovic had from the baseline was having to move forwards every time Hubie hit a forehand. Glad it’s over.
    Alcaraz vs Berrettini was slightly underwhelming, but still a good match. Alcaraz showed he’s an elite returner on every surface and can mix up return positions with the best of them. His forehand was in its usual nuclear form, and he was playing super freely for a guy playing probably a top 5 player and top 3 server in the draw.
    Rune vs Dimitrov was the marquee matchup of the day. Amazing quality from both guys. This was the best I’ve seen Holger play at a slam, and the best I’ve seen Dimitrov play in best of 5 in a long time. I was upset he had to go home with a loss after the performance he turned in. Rune vs Alcaraz is gonna be incredible, and for the third round in a row, Alcaraz is involved in the most interesting match.

      While the mat h was weirdly bad, Novak again showed why he is the GOAT. His fame was off and he made quite a few uncharacteristic errors. Yet he had his serve which was immaculate and one game where Hubert serve dipped, Novak immediately capitalised.
      Berrettini was so bad. Both weren't playing that well in the first set but Carlos warmed up and got going but it was more of Berrettini playing really badly than Carlos playing amazing. Carlos made some amazing shots but Berrettini was horrible. I expected more from him.

    Novak in 3 or 4 over Andre. Andre has to take the 1st set (as every contender). Andre's forehand versus Novak's all-around game. No contest unless Andre plays EPIC & Novak is sub-par. Sinner wins - not sure as have not watch either in Wimby-23. Meddy/Eubanks (the debutant) will be interesting. Taking Meddy in 4 or 5 unless Eubanks can be extra aggressive with low errors count in sets 3-4-5. Meddy takes set 1. Eubanks set 2. If Meddy gets up 2-0 sets, it's over. Rune has to be SUPER aggressive to have a chance. Carlos in 4 or 5 sets. So Sinner Alcaraz & Meddy/Nole. Sinner will have his chances against Alcaraz though Carlos movement & speed is superior. In particular, here it looks like Mr. Petchey seems to be just looking down on a laptop camera in random, badly lit spot in his house haha, while Gill has a full professional setup and an appealing background. I mean thousands of people get to watch all of this for an hour...
    In sports, most casual fans can figure out the most obvious conclusions themselves. It may be different on Lex Friedman when guests explore a wide variety of complicated topics in-depth, but if it's about Rublev-Djokovic, got any stats we haven't heard yet? Any word from a coach or an insider if a player has the sniffles or had a bad practice or w/e? It seems only Gill (and Amy on "Three") comes up with new insights and gives a clear, concise presentation.
    Obviously any online personality can have their fans, and I myself follow a drunk football podcaster but the appeal will have a hard ceiling.
