How to open the damper

Before you start your fireplace, make sure the damper is open so that the smoke will go out the chimney. Very important!

I would take out that gas insert and burn wood instead of gas because it is cheaper and also it doesn’t put off any heat like a gas fireplace. They’re both the same.
