- I'm Justin, rookie Swift driver from North Mississippi with 4mo experience. In this video, I drive from Pennington, AL to Pauls Valley, OK and give you 1 pov of what my daily life is like as a rookie OTR driver.
Momma here. I see you baby. Driving that big rig like a professional 😊
Gotta love a supportive loving Mom, truly a gift from God.
This is so sweet. Proud Momma right there.
My momma name is Brenda too! And I start truck driving school tomorrow up here in Canada!!
I been truckin 13yrs and I still call my mom every load and tell her the address. She will look it up on Google maps and tell me how to get in the places. She'll also tell me if I'm gonna run into any weather. Makes her still feel needed and I appreciate it.
Hey cuz! Really enjoyed your video! Just keep on keeping on!!!! Be safe and take care! I look forward to future content.
@@debrahenderson3361 hey fam and thanks for watching! Stay tuned. Ima try to keep them coming
Great work on this video! Hope you keep uploading, I subscribed.
Hey thanks Nick! Means a lot. I will definitely try to upload at least 1-2x a week.
Posting new Video tomorrow 8am central time
Keep going bro! Glad to see your subscribers increasing
Some advice from one driver to another. Always hook up your air hoses to the clamps to keep dirt and water out of the lines, also, when you are lowering your landing gear, Lower it until you got a half inch to inch gab between the ground and bottom of the sandshoe or landing gear. Then lower your bags. Great video.
Thanks for the tip. Definitely gonna start lowering my bags
@justin-reed anytime, brother.if you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
My bags are permanently lowered due to older age.
No, lower the landing gear all the way, hate that sh** then the next driver always has to crank it back up
Wrong@@nassiratti8542
I just got my class A cdl I'm 20 ill be 21 in 8 months I love the video just subscribed hoping to see more pov driving and everything.
Preciate it bro. What kinda Job and work you thinking bout doing? OTR regional local?
@justin-reed once I turn 21 I want to go otr and if possible get on a dedicated otr route but otr for sure i just never been one for local otr is what I've wanted to do since I was a kid.
I looked at swift and snider and cfi and prime just don't have a set one yet hoping I'll figure it out
@@connormurray4334 hey that’s awesome Connor. Otr is cool and to each his own. Hope you find a Good high paying OTR job that will pay for being out weeks at a time and lots of mileage
@@connormurray4334 hey swift is a good starter but you want good pay out the gate, then go to another starter company and get your endorsements
Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm in CDL trucking school in Cincinnati, Ohio now on my first week of training in the yard. This is very educational and straightforward and showing us what is it like being OTR. Thanks bro & be safe out there .. Also keep that frig full that fast food ain't healthy. 👍
@@Dante-f9m6q what company are you with? And Cincinnati? Thats awesome.
New subcriber. I drove 10 years OTR and regional before going local. Regional was nice because usually your home on weekends. Local driving you have to drive back and forth from home to work. Good thing about regional is that you don't have to do that. Wake up and drive. If the landing gear is a pain I start cranking in the hi gear then switch to the lower gear. Hate when they crank up the opposite way
Usually landing gears are firm enough to twist, but this one was loose, even in high gear
Landing gear almost took bro out lol. I definitely understand though. Been there. Keep on Truckin driver!
Bruh that landing gear was finna get left behind real quick 🤣
That's what I'm talking about big dog showing them how it's done.
@@dominickrobinso6858 that landing gear was bout to SHOW ME how it’s done🤣
I hit the 400th like!!! Great video
@@kuntreebredteamgreatdanesa5070 Preciate it kuntree
@@kuntreebredteamgreatdanesa5070 glad you liked it
That was a great video. No fluff. Just a ride along with great conversation and education. As someone who is about to enter CDL school, I'm glad I found this.
@@TheHossicle hey man thanks i really appreciate you for watching! Where you from and how long is the program? You learning manual or auto?
@@justin-reed I'm in Phoenix. The place I want to go is 4 weeks and does train manual but I'd have to do weekends so it'd be 8 weeks instead. Just waiting to see if I qualify for financing. It's hard to afford doing Swift training for 3-4 weeks with no pay so I'm trying to find alternatives.
@ check for gov grants in your area that offer financial assistance like Pell grants. Job Corp or duke some other program
I feel your pain when it comes to the landing gare bro it gets me every time
@@dappadiexecuta7846 now I put it in low gear first then high gear to get it off the ground
I see you my Bbbbbbooooyyyyyy!
I use to live in Ocala. There's 3 natural springs you can visit you would love. Silver springs, silver Glen and juniper springs.
God Bless you and enjoy your adventures. You're 1 of the select few that gets paid for traveling and sight seeing. I would always wash my clothes then shower. After put them in the dryer and go eat. After get the clothes out. A wire bound Atlas is best the cheaper ones will tear up
Lol yeah I had to use a atlas in the video. They were doing road work and NO big rigs were allowed on I20 in that area so I had to get on 220 and go around back on I20
Awesome job on this first video, Currently in the process of getting through the cdl-a permit stuff and doing the airbrake test this coming week. myself. Quick question: How was it with your trainer? Heard a lot of stories both good and bad so just curious how that process went for you :).
My first trainer was meh. They got me a 2nd one few days later. Only was with my 2nd trainer for 9 days then upgraded. Swift know they have good and bad mentors. They do their best to hold on to the good and usually listen to students when they want to switch from bad mentors. Best of luck. I might make a video on this topic because this important and an experience I’ll never forget
Aye nice, glad to hear you got a decent trainer down the road (figuratively speaking), also yea I agree, you should consider doing a video topic on this if you so choose, would help give us newbies a insight of what to expect. Drive safe out this week and make sure to keep your cool when dealing with idiotic drivers :).
I enjoyed your video. Off to school tomorrow. Trying to get like you bro. New sub. Stay up.
@@Joshua-yu9oc where you from and congrats. Good luck
New subscriber here! 🎉 keep trucking 🤙🏼
Welcome and thanks for watching
I would mount a removable back up camera on the trailer. Very useful especially in truckstops at night. Also get you a tire bat to make sure theirs no flats. Or at least kick them
Nah I’m good. That’s what GOAL is for but nonetheless it’s very good for those situations. I usually shutdown early anyway but there are some companies that actually have back up cameras on their trucks
Lol tire bat is bloody useless.use a tire gage like your supposed to. Giving these new drivers bad habits.
@@jerrywilcox9890 i have a gauge and need to start using it
@justin-reed yes I see to many drivers kicking hitting the tires.that doesn't tell ya how much air is in a tire.
@justin-reed an under inflated tires can cause serious accidents and get you or someone else killed.
Congratulations! I’m a rookie driver too. I just racked up 690 + miles a couple of days ago. 700 in 11?
@@cbass7345 haha slow it down. You’ve got many miles to go! What was your starting point and destination? What company and kind trailer you hauling?
Boutta start with swift this week bro ! Thoughts on the company ?
Good for you man. What terminal are you based at and will you be otr? I like everything except the pay But only have4mo experience so Will be going Local later down the road.
I start with Swift in a few weeks as a rookie driver. What terminal are you in?
@@bobbyjackson7325 memphis, Tn wbu?
They will expect that every time...slow ur roll
Good stuff man, going to CDL school here in a week. Have been considering Swift OTR vs regional because of the pay that is advertised. Do you have your own GPS / like a Garmin or do use your phone?
Get a Rand McNally atleast a 7 inch. About 430.00.. love mine! My personal opinion is they are the best trucker gps!
@@MrGrinchFPS I was looking at those too, thank you!
@@Linknelson You’re welcome sir! Good luck at school and just remember to take your time! Trucking is not a competition or a race. Take your time with your backing maneuvers, Get out and look as many times as you need to! Never blind side back if possible! Listen to your instructor and you’ll be fine!
@@Linknelson i look the location up on google maps, then use the gps Swift provides.
680 miles in govern truck, RESPECT
@@abrahamjackson6019 appreciate it man believe it or not there are Swift Driver’s out there that have covered 700 plus. Some trucks go 68-70
How do you like or dislike the International your driving? How does it handle on the road? How does it handle when backing?
@@davidshafer1872 a lot better than the freightliner Cascadia. It handles like a real truck. Freightliner just drives smoother. I really liked the international only thing i disliked was that it has a wide Turning radius when you try to u turn
Freightliner Cascadia is just too sensitive when backing up or driving 1-10mph. It’s good for rookie driving
Swift driver logs 11 hours without a crash. Gotta be a company record.
Most of our million mile drivers are incident free. They’re the same drivers delivering your product needs and wants while you kick your feet up in the comfort of your home😊
@@justin-reed Man I saw a 2 million mile driver in a black swift truck. 2 million miles is crazyy.
@@floridaman964 yeah that’s like 14-16 years of driving. My mentor Achieved his million in 7 years 🤣
Swift has a lot of million mile drivers and multimillion mile drivers
😂
Are you finding that other trucks give your parking spot a wide berth? It's like you get some extra parking spots all to yourself. 🤔😏 I'm just teasin' I'm sure you're nothing like your usual coworkers. hee hee hee
Let me find out Memphis got all the swift empties lol
Lmao
Swift also rents trailers to other companies.
Get use to alot of miles in this profession. After 20+ yrs you really feel it lol
Sike. Going local when the opportunity arises! 😂

Wow he netted a hefty $75 for all that I bet.
@@johnran6015 i was making .51 cpm at the time. I went local in August avg take home $1300
@@justin-reedyou going local with swift they do that?
@ they local routes at the Memphis terminal. Im not with swift anymore . I been with a local company for 4mo
@@justin-reed which company? I'm slaving at a megacarrier right now and looking at the end of Feb-mid March to have enough experience that almost any better paying company is looking for, though really I can just take a chance on any job paying more when I'm eligible, but also I have found out in my life that sometimes you can just apply and get hired without meeting their requirements
@ absolutely do whats best for you. I started with swift at .43cpm and left making .51
Im local now making 2-3x the money
As an ex local driver is 90 % backing 10% driving. Make sure that your 5th wheel is down after a drop and hook. I didn't once and gave the trailer 2 huge vampire 🧛♂️ bites. Also make sure that that trailer is high enough to back under.
Thank you. That is probably the best piece of advice I’ll ever get when I go local
I thought stops had to be approved by dispatch and premapped out? I went to orientation for Prime Inc but I left because it was so nasty there and I didn't enjoy all the Trump supporters there. I figure I can get my CDL through a local school. But one of the main reasons I kinda didn't want to do truck driving is having to pre map out the stops because if I had to use a restroom I had to wait.
@@simply_the_dev7588 drivers are captains of the ship. Dispatch can only give you loads. They can’t tell you what to do when you’re behind the truck. You eat or you want to eat you stop where you want to stop and more importantly you drive when its safe and shut down when you think it isn’t safe
That's pretty good but the longest.I drove On A eleven hour clock was seven hundred and twenty five miles
Wow. Impressive. Is your truck governed at 70? Do you remember what route you took?
Pet peev, wearing gloves in the truck. You're putting all that nasty shit on the door, seat, and steering wheel.
@@danielfrank4997 yeah man talk about a nasty job
Never heard so much talking for no reason when someone is trucking.
Tip...if you don't remember if you need to slide your tandems back just look at the majority of the other trailers in the area you dropped in and that should give you an idea
Tip 2...When manipulating the landing gear put one hand on the trailer as you spin it with the other. Will save your back from getting pulled some day
I got other videos where I dont talk as much. You might enjoy those more.
