    Excellent demonstration!
    What manual did you use?
    What size spanner sockets you make?
    Also what model Number Sealey puller set did you use ?
    Thank you

    Thanks for taking the time to document your repairs.
    I got mine running the other day.
    If you put a little Heat to the aluminum around the bearing it will go in or out easier.
    You can also put the bearings in the freezer before fitting them.

    Watching this video I've learned something new.
    The swing arm bolt runs through the back of the motor on an xr650r.
    I have 600's and do not like the thought of it running through if I was pulling the motors. (which I have been know to do)

      Yes it’s a different set up and with the pretension adjustment nut . Done a lot of reading on this build 😀👍👍

      @@OldDirtBikes Well, you and I both know that the 600's are a simple, less complex machine.
      But for those who want that ultimate power the 650R puts out, I guess it is worth it. I got too old to use that power and I've got enough 600's to last the rest of my life... for sure.

    Thanks for the video!!
    Can you remove the swing arm bolt, leave in the 2 adjustment parts and drop swing arm, or do the adjustment part lock in the swing arm?
    I don't have the special removal tools, but would like to grease my swing arm for preventative maintenance. .
    Thanks

      Hi thanks for watching hope it will be of some help . Not to good at explaining but I will try . You can remove the main shaft and possibly be able to lever the swinging arm out ( that is being very careful not to lever against engine case !! ) but the prob will be to refit ! As the adjustment design there to stop main shaft crushing the frame on final torque . So it presses against swinging arm . I think you won’t be able to refit . Sorry to be bearer of bad news but I would not recommend trying to force arm out or in . However I did manage to remove adjustment nuts without special tool ie - drift punch and hammer lightly - lucky they weren’t to tight , if you do this then watch to see if castle nuts stating to distort when hitting then stop . I then had them out and was easier to make tool . I’m afraid you do need tool to get correct pressure torque on reassembled . If you got them off at least you could take them and 2 old sockets to a engineering fab shop to make them for you . Best of luck best not to force things as alloy very soft . 👍👍👍

      Big thank you, I'll try to source the tools, and if no luck I'll make them(hacksaw and dremel, lol)
      my bike is a 2002, and the shaft was hard to get out and a bit rusty(I didn't even try to remove the swing arm), I want to change the bearings, you video was most excellent showing the process!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi I was wondering did you have to remove the subframe and air box to remove the rear shock?

    • @OldDirtBikes
      @OldDirtBikes  2 роки тому

      Hi its been a while since i did that job but i think its easier to fold subframe up out the way without fully removing it . Then makes it much easier to get at shock .👍

    How did u get the swing arm so clean

    • @OldDirtBikes
      @OldDirtBikes  3 місяці тому

      @@tonybright1761 degreaser first. Then just washing up liquid and scrubbing brush. Then a super fine grit paper wet and dry think it was 3000 grit but very lightly and just a once over. Wash again then finally polish with a light oil 3 in 1 oil. Hope that helps 👍

    Im not sure if it was said in the video or not, but what is the adjustment doing in the swing arm?

    • @OldDirtBikes
      @OldDirtBikes  3 роки тому

      Hi it pre tensions the s.arm in the frame, then lock it .then tighten up the main long bolt . Stops the frame being crushed. I’m not that sure myself was just following the book . The comment from Xr650r above dose make sense . Reading that helped me to understand. I’m not a mechanic so my vids just a guide. Hope it helps .

    Get the swing arm tig welded where it's damaged file it back to shape and use some medium and fine scotch brite wheels on a high speed drill to put the brushed look back into it and then a lite polish over the whole swingarm with some autosol and it will look good as new and helicopter tape on the underside to stop stone chips and same on the sides to protect it. Nothing worse than a scabby looking swing arm... 🤘 You pronounce use the same way as my old metal work teacher used to in school, what part of Wales you from ?? LoL

    • @OldDirtBikes
      @OldDirtBikes  3 роки тому +1

      That’s some good advice will do, but my mate with the tig won’t touch it . Will tidy it up though. Swinging arm first thing that catches you eye on bike so be good to sort it .👍

    Do you happen to have the brand and part # for the sockets you modified, the OEM tools are $$$$ if you can find them?

    • @OldDirtBikes
      @OldDirtBikes  2 роки тому

      Will find out for you in next couple of days . They at my other workshop , I remember they were old sockets imperial sizes not metric . Will find out soon 😀
