  • Scavenger hunts are so much fun and really do not take much preparation. Sure, you can go online and find pre-made lists, but I tend to just make up lists based on the age of the children and the environment we are in (as in backyard or in the house, at school or out in the community somewhere).
    If your children are young, do not make them complicated! Pick 5 (or up to 10) easy things they can find. You can make a list, or draw the pictures, or let them find something and come back to you for the next thing.
    For older kids you can make it more challenging. Up the stakes and have them measure, count, check off. It doesn’t have to just be collecting things. Use a phone and have them take photos. You will find that the teacher in me comes out with older kids. I like to reinforce learning - without the kids realizing this. You can do a digital hunt - getting them to find information online, but I like to get outside when I can. Make your clues into riddles. This is an extra level of challenge! It does a bit more brain work from you but it can be worth it.
    Don’t forget to provide a pen or marker to check off the list and a bag if they are collecting things. If you have a larger group of kids, put them into teams so they have to work together (I have been known to be a little mean (Ha) and have the team all connected together at their wrists by string so they can’t just separate and each person just run and find something. This means teamwork!!) Don't forget prizes if you want to have them.

    Thanks for this! My 7th grader requested scavenger hunts as part of our school year (she is a very kinesthetic learner,) and I was having a hard time getting creative enough to make it age appropriate. I like these ideas. If you have more tips for unschooling/unschooling middle school, I will be watching!

    Since when do adventure hunts consist only of finding things on a list?? What about all the clues and riddles that you have to solve to progress to the next step?

    • @LearningLifeMB
      @LearningLifeMB  3 роки тому

      That is true. Adventure hunts do also consist of those things. I was looking at one aspect of them, the scavenger hunt, which is about finding things. It would be fun to up it to the next level and have clues, etc. You are right.

    Hey Dear!, thankyou so much for for a great help through your video, i'm a kids book designer and one of my clients is asking me for a Halloween scavenger hunt activity book to publish on Amazon, can you plz share me some ideas for making this kind of scavenger activity book for kids, i'm bit stuck in making

      Hi there. If I was making a Halloween scavenger hunt activity book, I would start with a list of decorations you might see on houses. (we do this for Christmas lights and decorations and then drive around). You could also do one for stores, where they have to find the ingredients you use in halloween treats. Make some easy. Make some harder by having riddles to solve before you can find the items. Instead of having checklists for some they could draw what they see. Just different ways of doing the same thing. Those ideas help?
