    Do you know of a flexible curriculum that is geared more toward dyslexic adhd kids? Because they think outside the box more (very specific answers and testing isn’t) and like to move a lot. Videos are fine, games are good, but engaging content created for neurodivergent learners….

    I don't mind if other people negative I used to it as I never live my life as "normal" person supposed to. What if my kids negative? Asking things like why couldn't they just go to school like people on their sport team does? Usually around the time when the elementery school has something fun which the co-op don't. 😅

    I have a "pastry chef" age 6 who create videos of herself baking. The rule is only hands can show. It provides her income for the ingredients and taught her discipline and helped with reading and focusing challenges. 4 year old is a "coach" he expaline concepts in elementary subjects for the kids in the neighborhood who goes to primary school. He charge in wooden rail track.:) so I agree entrepreneurship for adults (I own multiple businesses) and kids are great and can't be started to early as it teaches so many life skills

    I was very happy with our Montessori school until about 2nd grade. Socially, it was very difficult for my twins to have many options for friends as the combined ages between 1st and 3rd grades had 30 students in the class toward the end of us leaving. The school also had a lack of financial transparency obviously because they had never discussed making such large class sizes before we committed ourselves to coming back the next year. The classroom felt chaotic and teachers were stressed that then took out their frustrations on the students. We decided to leave as socially I didn’t want my kids mingling as 4th graders in with the 5th and 6th graders. There is a HUGE difference in what these kids know and behave like than with my 4th graders. If I were to do it again I would have moved on to another school after Early Childhood. I honestly don’t think it was worth the money as head start and upstart programs are just as good IMO. Look at academic performance between the private and public schools before finalizing your decision along with their philosophy on discipline and social development before thinking that private schools are always the best.

    How is that tuition is a challenge if the system was designed for orphans? I can understand that if this works , high earners will be willing to pay it. But it is difficult to understand how not any public education system uses this.

    We do follow curriculums but we have 2-2 hours a week scheduled when my kids are the "teachers". So they decided whatever we will learn about. I have to admit some topic what they bring are even interesting to me (like how can Leonardo Da Vinci Self stending bridge can stand alone) some topics I never think about (like why is the alphabet in this order) some is just plain weird (If the bird eats a bug and a cat eat the bird then is the cat eat the bug)

    @4:50 that snide side comment says it all right there. The majority of research shows that structure is a necessity or benefit for all children. The autonomy given children permits time and relives pressure that the inflexible format of a standard classroom provides. The side whisper that hey, maybe your kid isn’t one of us is odd given that the Montessori method was developed for the outcast children then-society said this to. The wayward, the poor, those deemed unable to be taught. Those children were considered liabilities but Montessori demonstrated their ability to be *normalized * Ironically this video is a sales pitch and doesn’t address the reality that modern Montessori is no longer an educational philosophy to help struggling or vulnerable children but an appropriated pedagogy for the upper classes who have no trouble affording a system that continues that continuum of self-interest and exclusivity.

      The commentor above said that Acellus Academy (not Power Homeschool) can cost close to $300/month/student. The creator of this video @LearningLifeMB did say that Power Homeschool is about $25/month/student. It is actually currently $31.25/mo unless you do the Roger Billings Scholarship opportunity, which would make in $19.95/mo instead, which seems like a very worthwhile opportunity.

    • @DW-bx9bj
      @DW-bx9bj Місяць тому

      My family decided that Acellus Academy version was the best for my high functioning special needs son. We are 2 weeks in and it has been a blessing. Power homeschool uses the same curriculum and is cheaper if you don’t need the benefits of enrollment, transcripts and an accredited HS diploma.

    As someone who was unschooled his ENTIRE life, I think I can tell you pretty confidently: you're letting your children down. Please, don't ruin your children's lives the same way my parents did mine. Either give them a proper homeschooling experience by following an actual curriculum standard, requiring frequent interactions with other closed-aged children, encouraging personal talents / hobbies / interests, and much more; or send them to public school where they'll receive access to proper education, socialization, and resources.

    This reminds me about the time I asked a speech path friend why so many kids need a speech path. She told me that many don’t. She explained that we all have strengths & weaknesses & that many of the kids just have different strengths & the kids would get caught up on their own. We don’t need our kids to excel at every subject to be moving forward toward the goal. This was a good video. I would like to see more parents develop a love for books in their children before giving them tech. I’ve seen even 1-yr-olds can be indifferent to books if they are used to TV & video games.

    Is tactile and kinestetic the same type of learning? I get confused as some research say kinestetic like to move and tactile like to touch things but not nessery move.

    • @LearningLifeMB
      @LearningLifeMB 2 місяці тому

      They are not fully the same. Kinesthetic are whole body learners - so the doing, touching, moving. A tactile learner does like to touch things but doesn't always have to be moving. In my view a kinesthetic learner is also tactile, but a tactile isn't necessarily kinesthetic.

    I wish I had had a teacher like you growing up! I would love to do this with my son. He is a teen and loves ants. Other than incorporating Geography (Where different species lived), do you have any other ideas? Or good unit studies/curriculums evolving around ants? Also, he is amazing at science! For my daughter, she isn't as focused in on anything particular. She doesn't exactly enjoy learning anything nor does she get stuck on any one subject. She's more about getting everything done quickly (not deep dives). She is in middle school & is constantly listening to music. Curriculums, unit studies, or ideas?

    • @LearningLifeMB
      @LearningLifeMB 2 місяці тому

      Thank you for your comment. For your son - check out Teachers Pay Teachers. You can find some good ant unit studies on there for really low cost. There will also be some other great science units. If I were to do one, I would look at ants around the world, the different kinds of ants and how they function, comparisons between different ants, how they are important to the eco-system and what would happen if we didn't have ants. For your daughter, maybe a way to get her involved is to do a unit study on music. What are the different styles of music? How did we end up with rhythms and blues/jazz/hip hop/ etc.? Music around the world - instruments, style, etc. How does music make you feel? How can we incorporate music and art? Something like that.

    My son is 7 and has been in Montessori school since he was 5 and he's autistic. He's very smart and struggles with social skills. He needs prompts to do his work, initiate anything, but he's above average in reading and excellent in Math (2 to 3 grades above his level). I still struggle with knowing if Montessori is the right choice because I think he might need more structure. But he responds well to the style of to teaching as it's a very tactile and visual. Do you think Montessori is a good fit for someone like this? Thank you for any thoughts.

    • @LearningLifeMB
      @LearningLifeMB 2 місяці тому

      Sorry for the delay in replying. I get why you are wondering if it might be the best fit. If he needs more structure and prompts to do his work, as he gets older he might not get all he needs in a Montessori setting - based on how they work. It is nothing against them or him, just different styles and needs. It be worth talking to his teachers about this.

However, when I started being more animated, she actually listened, took interest, followed my instructions, AND retained the information taught! I was very surprised.
