Cher is the first artist to use Autotune on Believe , to add a effect to the song. They probably added to give the sound the original intended sound.
Agreed That's what made Cher's version really stand out!

I agree. The whole point of the original was the sound produced by the effect. If PTX didn't use it, it wouldn't be true to the original, and therefore not quite right.
i reckon it would have been harder for pentatonix to hold the note there and add the autotune afterwards, rather than sing it how they remember it with the voice waver, because of muscle memory...its like trying to sing certain songs not in the accent of the person who sang it.

Yes they are using auto-tune in Cher's "Believe". The song would not be "Believe" it didn't use auto-tune in it. It was the iconic sound of that song. Whenever I think of auto-tune the first song that always comes to mind is Believe.
Pentatonix used Pitch Corection/Autotune a few times, in mad word u can hear clear it's mixed and mastered, there are a few Music Producers that Broke Down their Songs on the Computers, they use autotune, reverb and other effects. You just need to put the Songs on a PC and a Music Program to see what kind of effects are used in the Mix.
Fun fact: Cher insisted in using Auto tune in the 90's to mix it up and changing it up and look every *gay* (cough cough) guy loves it!!
@@indygabee Fun Fact number 2: Autotune may not have been really popularized in music until later, but those who knew about it back then sometimes called it the “Cher Effect.” It was such a commonly used term for the effect that when I asked Siri “What is the Cher Effect,” she heard and typed “share effect,” but then returned the wiki entry on Autotune.

Mitch looking so good and happy was my first thought. It's so good to see him looking this way again, it's long overdue. And it's nice to see someone appreciate Matt, far too often people appreciate the main vocals and beatboxing and, they completely forget about the base I think they tend to lump beatboxing and base together but the songs would be completely different without Matt and his awesome bass.

they used autotune on Believe because Cher used autotune on Believe originally :) so no slight on anyone's part. it was their artistic choice :)
They dressed and styled for the 90’s club scene. They did a phenomenal job at staging this entire video for what they were presenting. Love me some PTX. 💯❤️💃🏻
As a radio presenter who specialises in 90s I love things like this. What is more scary is realising that many of the group would have been very very young in the 90s so to them it's like their "growing up" music whereas to my generation its more my student days in the nightclubs etc lol

I'm 45 years old so these songs were part of the soundtrack of my teenage years. It makes me sooooo happy that you knew all of them even though you were just a baby in the 90's.
I'm sure those few parts are auto-tuned since that's the way Cher did the original.
Edit: I'm with you on all these songs! I love this Medley! I was dancing in the clubs to these songs so the memories came flooding back when I watched the premiere earlier today!

Yeah, it shocked me a bit how they put the effects on their voice at some points. I guess it's just part of the 90s vibe. Songs like Cher's Believe was one of the first ones to use Autotune not just for correcting voices or pitches, but to achieve heavy effects and give it a different quality. See also: 'Cher effect'.

Because it's SO GOOD, and I'm happy you reacted on this so early. I mean, SCOTT'S AND KIRSTIE'S HAIR. MITCHIE'S VOCALS. MATT'S AND KEVIN'S WORK. I love everything about this medley!
Now, as always, an interesting fact from me. If I know right, they could done full version of "Believe" by Cher much more early, during their participation in the Sing-Of. But they couldn't arrange it as they wanted to and decided to do "Video Kill the Radio Stars" instead of it. Just imagine, after 10 YEARS they finally can arrange it!
And about autotune. I think, it is. But yes, it's all about song, it's about the vibe. They use vocaloid for that and it really works with "Believe"

I'm in shook that everyone talking about Kirstie's hair (that is gorge), but not of the stars of this video: Matt bass line, Kevin the beatbox king and the range that Mitch display in so many backgrounds and effects, that harmonies with Scott of effects were crazy.

Not say whether they DID or DID NOT use autotune. What I do know, they have used the same type of effects in other songs, and in their LIVE performances, so all we can do is wait until they start touring again and listen for it. BUT, I would not care if the used autotune in every song from here on out for the effects, I love PTX and will always support their work. They worked hard and EARNED my respect a long time ago! I believe they actually created that "autotuned" sound with their voices and not an actual device as a tribute to the original song. They ARE that good.

It makes me laugh about the autotune. There is a huge difference between using autotune because you can't hold a note (*cough* will-i-am *cough*) and to create an ambience or effect. There are so many levels to auto-tuning and effects. So much you can now do. The better you can sing, the more options you actually have with effects. Once upon a time purists would belly-ache about guitarist using pedals, now its the norm, because its easy to distiguish between talented musicians using effects for EFFECT, and those that are hiding a lack of skill or talent behind enhancement. The same is true for vocals. Using effects to musically enhance is not a bad thing when the raw talent is there to start with. We know they can sing, we know they can do things with their voices that make us spit take over our keyboards and smart phones. Now they're showing us what they can do with that f-tonne of talent and good use of what technology has to offer.
And as those of us who have been fans for years well know, PTX were huge fans of their sing off competitors "Sonos" who used all kinds of effects (although they weren't allowed to on he show).

As someone born in the mid 70's as you can imagine I was bang in the middle of the 90's when the dance scene EXPLODED, and night clubs were swarming! (Mr Smiths, Warrington, Cheshire make some NOISE! lol) This was a great trip down nostalgia lane :)

They've used effects on their voices before to make the music videos more fun. It's a baffling truth to find out they can actually do a similar effect on their own during a live performance or a concert.
The first time I saw them live back in 2015 I literally stood in that venue afterward, just staring into the void. I couldn't believe what I just experienced. They have my heart ever since.
Yes to the auto tune, but used very strategically and to awesome effect! And they have used effects before so not sure if it's a big deal or not...I could careless lol

Ignore the purists. Pentatonix is evolving and experimenting with several different techniques. Personally I love it. They are musicians first and will use techniques that enhance the experience. Best video yet. I think this is my favorite as well. I've been a Pentaholic for a long time.

Yea I noticed the auto tune right away. I think during Mitch’s part in “Blue” also. But I like it. 👍🏽 Some songs like those just aren’t the same without it.
Yeah definitely used on Mitch’s part in Blue but I love it as well, I actually don’t mind when auto tune is used as a stylistic choice & the 90’s were choc full of it so I reckon it was a great decision to use it for the video 🥰

Great reaction. Let the purists deprive themselves for whatever reason. Being perfect at something, a capella in this case, doesn't mean they can't have a play with other stuff, auto-tune or instruments. I'm all for experiencing their full range of talents, and their nod to the origins of what they're doing.
That was good. I only knew maybe 3 of the songs! I am a 70's music lover. Would love to hear them do a 70's version. OMG, They looked terrific. I LOVE the way Scott looked. His hair looked so good! I recognized most all the songs, the only one I couldn't really place was the boom boom boom boom song. I listened to the radio nonstop during the 90s, working as a temp in various offices. now i've listened to this medley so often I know every word and note of this medley and PTX interpretation of each song.

Great reaction, I loved clubbing in the 90's in my 20's the music was fantastic & PTX has bought back so many great memories with this remix. they were amazing as per usual, and as others have said, Cher's version of Believe was when I first heard autotune, & they obviously paid homage to her by doing same. new subber here :)

Yes, Cher used autotune so they needed to sound the same. Also remember that they are doing this through the Pandemic which Scott and Mitch have said on an IG Live sessions that they usually figure out the arrangement in 24 hours, but they do Zoom meetings to discuss and then each has to record themselves at home and then send files back to put it together. Scott has had to learn how to edit with new equipment but it is the same as Ben (6th unofficial member) but he is the one that pulls things together. They have not all been in the same room together in months. I am happy that they continue to put their Music out and give us all some good energy and positive messages.
Definitely one on my favourite videos by PTX. They definitely used Autotune and some effects to enhance the song. We all know they can sing, but they’ve been playing around with some effects on the ‘Lucky ones’ album as well. I think this is fine as they aren’t using it to make themselves sound good, but to add effects. I love that this means their live performances change the song up a bit as well, and still sound fantastic!

Yep they have used the studio to streamline things. What is cool is in the Sing-Off they were going to do Chers "Do you Believe" but did "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles instead. Slick that they returned to it.
