The autotune was brought in to honor and acknowledge Cher as being the first, or one of the first artists to use the effects of autotune on that particular song of hers.
For a long time the auto-tune sound was actually referred to as the "Cher-effect!" I love that they used it here in homage to Cher! I'd love to know if Cher ever heard this medley and what she thought of it!

@@vanessa4u4evr , Pentatonix performed after her at the iHeart Jingle Ball. There's some delightful footage of them fangirling/boying her as they wait to go one.

Feels like blasphemy to use autotune on these awesome PTX voices, but you just can't do that song without it!
The incredible thing is: they also pull this off live in their concerts. There are several videos on UA-cam as proof!

There's a good live version of this from Pentatonix's 2022 Hollywood Bowl concert, captured by a fan from the pay-per-view stream. ua-cam.com/video/U10A4ijmEH4/v-deo.html I would recommend any of the live stream videos from that concert, which was kind of a 11-year retrospective of Pentatonix's career to that point.

One thing I learned from watching this reaction is to stay at least 8 feet from Stan if dancing with him. Loved the moves just a bit erratic for me.😂

You should really see them do this live. I love all their Hollywood Bowl 2022 videos. They are so good live.
Kirstin's hair is either black or dark brown, but she has a huge collection of wigs so you never know what she'll look like from one release to the next.
I love her look in this video - kind of wish she'd bring that look back!
Kirstin also changes eye color now and then.

#PTX Kirstie and Mitch are both chameleons, often changing their looks. My favorite was Mitch's mullet. They did use auto-tune as a bow to Cher in that song.
They have evolution of Michael Jackson, evolution of Beyonce and evolution of Rihanna.
And Ariana Grande.

I've been a die-hard Pentaholic for 3 years now and I absolutely agree with you about three vocalists, one Bass, and one Beatboxer, but of course there are quite a few awesome caveats. Matt can SING, so when he does , Scott takes over the Bass line. Kevin can play Cello. He occasionally sings as well and can actually get into Mitch territory but Mitch of course can still slap everyone when he wants to. Kirstie is the Belter. Scott is the Rocker. They're so skillful and amazing together.
They make it work really well and we enjoy it ☺️

Original songs are sing and love again. Scott has a song lost on you with Mario Jose who used to open for them. It is LP lyrics set to Hans Zimmer's track from inception titled time

There is an excellent live stream version of this medley from their September 2022 Hollywood Bowl concert. They performed this live for the very first time at that concert and it is a true showcase for their talent. Actually all the live stream songs from that concert are great.

The first two of those are from fairly early in Matt's tenure with Pentatonix, and his range has grown a great deal since they were recorded. I believe the reason they made the new recording of "O Holy Night" for the latest album was because they wanted to take full advantage of his current range. But the best song I've found for showing off that range is "Hallelujah." Matt's arrangement of the second verse seems to have been written with that goal specifically in mind. They all really enjoy doing this in concert. It really ups the energy! Mitch has said it’s one of his favorites to sing. His solo original music is a very techno sort of updated 80’s/90’s sound. Check out his latest releases some time. “Oblivion,” “Velvet,” “Agony,” and the completely beautiful “Halfway.”

Remember Scott, Kirstin aind Mitch were BORN in 92-93. Mitch was a grade behind, but Scott got Mitch to miss his High School Graduation Ceremony for the SING-OFF on NBC. Kirstin was in college in Oklahoma and dropped it for the audition.
Amazing was Scott convinced Kevin to fly across the country to audition. Kevin had to finish his schooling and graduated from Yale University-- Pre-med of course.
Each member is very talented and an important part of Pentatonix.

Everyone wants a full album with whole songs from this. Not enough of each song! I love this so much. I think if you're like me your favorite PTX song is the one playing at the time.

Here's one for you...probably one of the best LIVE versions of Pentatonix was their "2016 PopSpring" concert, because it was sponsored by MTV, so the audio and video are absolutely first-rate !! The video is 15 minutes (but well worth it) as they sing 4 of their own songs. It totally reflects their SHOWMANSHIP !!

I'm not a 90s kid. I'm not even an 80s kid, although I squeezed in a little bit of the 70s while I was still a teenager. But mostly I was a 60s kid. I'm pretty sure before this release from Pentatonix, I hadn't heard any of these songs before. Even so, since my very first listen, they have all become favorites. Such is the power of Pentatonix!

If you guys REALLY want to have your mind BLOWN by Mitch, look up his cover of Your Power by Billie Elish. Done from his rooftop during the pandemic, channeling both Michael Jackson and Prince.
And with a catalong of 12 years of music, there are more new favorites that await you than you can wrap your head around. Their Daft Punk Medley that won the their first Grammy. Their EDM acapella original Love Again. And their last summer released original anthem I Rise. Plus their newly released cover of Kiss From a Rose for their Holiday Album.

Part of the charm of this one - in addition to the remarkable vocal talent - is that they are enjoying themselves as much as we are! Mitch is a brilliant mimic, he can imitate all sorts of sounds. Except for the Cher bit near the end, it's all him. I've seen him do this one live. Re 3 vocalists and a bass + beatboxer: remember Matt's amazing vocals during O Holy Night, though. And Kevin has a beautiful sweet voice: hear him in Mary Did You Know, Imagine, and Amazing Grace.
It was certainly beautiful. We were loving it with this one!
Did you see Matt this Christmas in their video O Holy Night? You will see him and Kevin both being great vocalists!
We did actually, just been awhile since we heard it so we do forget in time
Saw this live last August! It may have been over 100°F in that amphitheatre, but most people were up and dancing and singing to this song!!!

I’ve been a fan from the beginning and honestly if I’m just listening, I forget that the bass and percussion is just vocals. I personally think it’s a compliment to them. This pretty much is the Kirstie & Mitch show. Your cheeks get sore with all the Mitch slaps. I’m 63 and wasn’t into this music, except for Cher, fan of hers since the 60’s. In the 90’s I was listening to country and line dancing at the BORDERLINE when it first opened. It’s closed now due to the horrible mass shooting in 2018. Loving you guys. 🤗💋🥰

Impossible to listen to this and not “chair dance”. This was recorded during lockdown and was shot individually then edited together. When it came out Pentaholics were begging for a full length album.

The 3 + 2 formula is exactly how they came about. Mitch, Scott and Kirstie are friends from about Grade 7. Kevin and Avi were grabbed specifically for them to be on The Voice and they just became gold. "Be my Eyes" should be soon on your #PTX list. Written and led by Kirstie. Y'all will love it.

Love your reaction to this While I love Kirstie rockin' her big curls (heck, I just love Kirstie no matter what she's doing!), I'm pretty sure the hairstyle is actually a wig. She's known for having a number of them and often wears them on tour, to be able to do different styles and colors without damaging her own hair.
Another song in a similar style that you might like is Love Again - a PTX original, and pretty sure to give you a Mitch-slap!
