As I villa fan I know this very well, and it sucks but I’m glad they bounced back. But they did a similar thing again recently from finishing 6th 3 times in a row in the premier league a few years back but got relegated due to poor ownership a few seasons later, and after 3 years in division 2 were back in the premier league. It’s hard being a villa fan but it’s sometimes worth it
YOOOO That must be awesome to be at that beautiful stadium every weekend man! I'm a new Villa fan from USA (I've done my research on the history and promotion battle of the 17/18 season - heartbreaking stuff) and was lucky enough to be able to catch every single game from this passed 18/19 season and my god was it worth it! The highs and lows, just insane season all around! Idk what it was about them that caught my eye but the history and the highs/lows remind me of my favorite American Football team (Cleveland Browns) so that's probably why. I hope to make it overseas to experience Villa Park for myself some time soon! Cheers
Matt Randall yes I do know that which is why I even took note of the club in the first place (my best friends are all arsenal supporters so I followed them a bit at first) I know a lot of American owners are sh*te when it comes to owning EPL teams (like Stan kroenke for Arsenal) so I’m hoping the lerners weren’t too terrible because they do love hard working sports teams (Al Lerner owned them and when he passed away it was passed down to his son who is not that great of an owner - spoiled kid really) thankfully he sold it but to not so good owners but now we have the best at AVFC!
@@no92108 We're the greatest football club on earth my friend. Founders of league football, every club owes us a debt of gratitude. We existed for a century before Liverpool usurped what we'd won in 19 70's it took Monstrosity Utd & Arsenal well into the 90's & Chelsea about even now, though we still have 1 more top flight titles than them, & all their's bought with dodgy roubles. Still won more than Man City & Spurs by some way. We are football pioneers. You're welcome my friend @ our club.
Roots of the rivalry Birmingham City vs Aston villa pls. Very fierce rivalry with a lot to talk about. Plus would be good to see my club Birmingham City get some sort of video. Thanks 💙
One reason he dismantled the squad wasn't the ages of the players-it was jealousy we got to be champions of England and Europe without him as chairman. Claret and blue blood in his veins...my arse!
Cmdr Leif_ Erikson totally agree bud, did u know he even took down pictures around villa park of our league and European triumphs like it didn’t happen ???Our proudest moments not to be celebrated cause of his ago
Saunders was great at Villa he had a solid squad. They proved that a champion team will always do better than a team of champions. Have to add that Spink was a major factor in winning the final.
you can do or add this to your videos. Manchester United: From European Champions to Relegation in 5 Fast Years (1969 - 1973). you can notice a a weird pattern every English team that won the champions league got relegated the only exception are Liverpool FC, & Chelsea in later years.
Yeah the Tricky Trees should be interesting. There are a couple of important lessons in their recent history. You can stick with a legend of a manager for too long. And serial mismanagement and having more coaches/managers than most of us have had hot dinners isn't a recipe for success. Who would have thought it.
Great video Adrian the only questions I had after it were around Villa's transfers during this period. Did they gamble on youth too much or were there high profile flops? Did any of the leaving winners go on to bigger things or had they hit their peak with that win?
A similar tale is Leeds going from euopean champions league semi finals to relegation because of over investment that didn't pay off on the field followed by cutting costs. Despite their size and history they have been unable to bring back the glory days or get back to the top league.
I feel like Aston Villa's tragic decline began when they started buying all, or mostly, English players. Nigel-Reo-Coker, Ashley Young, Gareth Barry, the fact that they kept Gabriel Agbonlahor for so long, and many others. Sure, Barry and Young were decent enough players, but they didn't have that extra bit of star-studded quality that a foreign player like Sanchez and Xabi Alonso and those of their ilk possessed and could've brought to the team when Lerner was on his shopping spree. Hell, Valencia were in dire straits for cash so if they were ruthless and quick they could've nabbed David Villa, David Silva and Juan Mata from them which certainly would've been better than all the British dross they signed under Lerner's reign. Randy Lerner didn't have a clue about football and his ignorance showed in Aston Villa's poor investments during his time at the club, which just attributed to their decline and tragic relegation. But that's in the past now! They're back with a stronger, smarter, and more redefined and mature Jack Grealish leading them. Aston Villa are easily staying up! Mark. My. Words!
Apart from the fact that this video in about the 1980's Villa side and Doug Ellis ownership. Lerner didn't know anything about football which didn't help and a procession of shit managers made things worse. Your time lines on some of those English players is also well off, most having happened prior to Lerner taking over. Maybe you just wanted to shoehorn a dig about English players into your comment? As for will they stay up? They might. It won't be easy, especially as teams that go up through the playoffs tend to struggle (Fulham for example), they're losing their top scorer as he's going back to Chelsea, and Grealish, although younger, was decidedly underwhelming the last time he was in the PL.
We signed Gareth Barry in 1998 as a 16yrd youth graduate from Brighton under the ownership of Doug Ellis & managed by John Gregory who mostly signed foreign players ! what are you talking about ????
The team got ripped apart to soon, the average age of that team was 27, the appointment of Graham Turner was awful and Billy Mcneil was even worse, and that was down to deadly Doug Ellis, Graham Taylor was an excellent appointment he got rid of the dead wood at the club and did NOT stand any nonsense from D.E, i do believe G.T took the England job to soon he would of turned Aston Villa into a very good team, the appointment of Venglos was yet another really bad move by the chairman.
Tony Morley should have enjoyed a huge England career. For some reason successive England managers did not want flair wingers on the team. Spinks got himself a few caps though. Also fun fact: Jimmy Rimmer was the reserve goalie in Man Utd's famous 1968 European Cup triumph at Wembley. So he has 2 European Cup winner's medals having played a total of 9 minutes over both games.
yes there going down again ....the billionaire owners should have chased some experience...and gave some young fellas ago ...chasing the pointless cup instead of staying up ....
Adrian is on level with Copa 90 and Euro/Football Daily. How do you not have a million subs bro
He's actually kinda better than Euro Football Daily
Good question man, he should be one of the biggest football channels on UA-cam. Content is easily as good as anything else football related
Definitely better in my opinion. Football Made Simple is great with tactical videos too

Arsenal

My pleasure Jack!
Remember the good old times when only champions would play in the champions league!
Yeah, now some champions have to go through 4 qualifying rounds to get to the group.
yes when back when a team sitting in 11th could win it
Too bad City couldn't do it lmao

hey Adrian love your videos!
Liverpool winning top flight English titles, Barcelona in the Europa league and Aston Villa as champions of Europe. The 1980's were a mess🤯

I dread to think of it.
The reigning champions got knocked out by the mighty CSKA Sofia of Bulgaria in the quarter-finals

those teams used to be good and competitive before giving 4 places to the strong countries before shady people pouring money in english clubs etc

They got to the final in 75! But lost to Bayern
my second team after THE reds birmingham clubs and newcastle clubs for me have been huge underachievers being big city clubs
Andrew Bristoe villas won a lot and is one of the most successful clubs in the UK
Matthaeus for the size newc and Birmingham clubs should have more trophy’s compared to smaller city’s club areas Liverpool arsenal Chelsea especially
Could you make a video about the 1991 Red Star Belgrade that won the Champions cup? :)
preston north end interesting where are they now?
Is it Munich or Munchen? Or is it both?
munchen in german munich in english

please do an aston villa birmingham city rival video
Aston villa still has more league titles than tottenham and chelsea .
Do a video on how blues and villa became rivals
