been diagnosed with scoliosis last month and the doctor did not explain anything about it. he just said it happens and gave me painkillers.thats all. this video is very enlightening. i will keep following for more videos.thank u so much Dr Ed. God bless u
Good Video Ed P. Very helpful to explain Scoliosis. I have been diagnosed via X Rays and MRIs with Dextroscoliosis (varying opinions of the degree of the curvature - but last X Ray reveals 19 degrees Lumbar to the right and a 5 degrees thorasic to the left). I am 73 Years old, retired, male. In 1966 at 15 yo, I fractured my right Femur playing HS Football. I was put in traction for 6 weeks in the Hospital (unheard of today) , tthen put into a Body Cast for 2.5 months. When the cast came off, my right leg was 1" shorter than the left. The Ortho Doctor was "surprised" by the amount. He measured both my parents legs and found my mother was 1/4" short on the right - dismissing the amount attributable to starting off the same way before the fracture. It was left Unaddressed by the doctor and my parents - he should have recommended that I would need to wear Orthopedic correcteed shoe to help stabilize my Hips and Spine. He did not. After some 16 or 17 years with this shorter leg, the lower back stiffness was evident. Bending forward - leaning forward became laborious with stiffness (not very painful...Yet). Over the years as my spine /hips were affected, the stiffness and imbalance led to my dextroscoliosis AND led to many other Maladies of my spine and SI Joints. It was not until sometime in the late 90s did I start to wear a personalized adjustment to my Dress shoes by adding a small lift to the heel of the shoe and insert another 1/4' lift inside the shoe. But the damage was already done. Not oonly is Scoliosis a Curvature of the spine, one chiropractor told me that It is Twisted as well. That traversed to the top of my neck, creating with Forward Head Posture for Years , loss of the Curvature of the neck and disc Bulges with OA lining the vertebrea and facet Joints. Body Physiatry is a fantastic Science. This Leg Length Discrepancy (LLD) has wreaked havoc with my body - OA in both Knees (Had Torn meniscus surgery in both knees 15 years apart) , OA in the left Hip, some OA in tthe ankles, L2 & L3 Disc bulges into the front & the rear of the spinal canal, L5-S1 Spondylioethesis at about 25%. All of this compunded by having advanced Degenerative Disc Disease throughout my spine- very this discs!. All of this makes for a High Misery Index. Chronic pain s worse the Terrrible Stiffness Daily. As the head of Mt. Sinai's (NYC) Spinal Surgeon Dept. who examined me told me- Many Ortho doctors count Scoliosis Short!! It can and does affect various nerves which in turn affect various organs: Stomach, Heart, Diaphragm (me big time) and Lungs. Another crtical mistake I made was to NOT drink Water - Hydration is very vital to overall health but even more so for your Spinal health as the bach discs are 80% Water - once they start drying out and thinning (like me) they do Not Recover , tthey do NOT regenerate.
You are truly the best informative creator on this subject. I truly wish i would have had this information when I was a teen. I'm so glad I found your videos today!
Hi Ed - I think you have a slight labeling error at the 10:34 min mark. The reverse S curve has the rib hump and lumbar thickening labelled for the S curve. Cheers from Toronto. Yes i will be signing up for the professional course within the next few weeks.
Hello Ed, very useful videos as no doctors I met pointed out that my back and neck pain depends on a reversed s-shaped scoliosis. But except it I even have a reversed s-shaped scoliosis even in my neck. Yes, it’s correct I have 2 reversed s -shaped scoliosis, one is on my neck an another is down my spine. I even have Straight neck position without the necessary curve. What do you suggest for a one like me ? 🙏
I'm still a bit unsure of my curve type I have a mri if you can help please,? I'm thinking its the uncommon type left thoracic primary, right lumbar with rotation
I’m diagnosed with thoracolumbar left convex scoliosis. The X-ray was only taken from the front on a special Scoliosis full body scanner. If you look at it from the back I’m assuming it would still look like a levoconvex curve. Is that correct? My therapist thought I had a right curve based on her Scoliometer and the Adams test.
Wish I had all the information 18 years ago, but not sure it would have made any difference. My curve was 65 degrees then. The pain in my back and right leg has made it nearly impossible to do the things I loved in my garden. Aleta
Thank you Ed! This was extremely useful. I was told I had an S curve Left side @55 degrees. This means nothing to me. All I can tell you is that it hurts so bad and it sometimes protrudes right at my waist left side. It sticks out and is so painful 😢…I was not born with it that I know for sure. Thank you so much once again, Susan from Canada

What do you mean by no brace? Like not to wear a brace or not bracing the core during the x ray?

I can't help you with that. You can work on it though.
So o was told I had scoliosis with a twist like literally my back is curved with a twist, but I don’t know what all that means. Thank you.
