    @MobileTechReview I decided to purchase this laptop, and lemme tell you, I love it. I got the highest top of the line option I could get with all the bells and whistles. My only complaint is the fingerprint reader is hit or miss but I'm still getting used to it. The card reader function was the main deciding factor for me. Because I am in the military, having a CAC reader in this type of form factor is a game changer for travelling purposes. I will never have to carry a CAC reader again when i travel. I don't do any editing, so I get around 9 hrs of battery life. The brightness was another deciding factor. I have zero issues using this outside. Yes it drains the battery more, but I dont plan on being outside in the sun for 9 hours. Light weight powerful, a 512 SSD and an SD Card with 4g LTE is simply awesome. If it wasnt for your review, I probably never would have known about this thing, especially with the CAC reader as an add-on. Thank you for the great video!

    Hi, at 7:10 mark in the GeekBench4 comparison charts the Dell Latitude 5290 2-in-1 i5 has a higher multi-core score compared to XPS 13 9360 i7. very interesting. Love your reviews. Keep up the good work.

    I wish someone would make a Surface Book clone already. I just want more battery in the tablet and some ports.

      The Eve V we reviewed does a good job with the ports, but only Core m CPUs.

      MobileTechReview the Eve V is actually a great product. However, I'm looking for a Surface Book like device with a dedicated GPU in the base and a more traditional laptop form factor with the detachable tablet.

      Hafeez Hamama unfortunately a SBook device is a very niche product in which MS sell by the thousands, you might want one, but demand is low and potential profit is nominal. Even these 2 in 1 devices have gone past their 15 minutes of fame; most of us who have used them find them too compromised as a laptop, just try it on your lap! Really only for those that need pen support, from artists to school and some professionals. 2 in 1 devices have been superseded by 360 degree devices that give us a great laptop experience and on the rare occasions we need a Window’s tablet, that option. I suspect the Surface Pro will be cancelled after the next iteration or they will only update every 2-3 years. The fact MS brought out the Surface Laptop is a sign they needed a change of strategy to get a foothold, these gimmicky devices may excite on first look but rarely live up to the hype.

      As a MacBook Pro (2012 with 1TB SSD swap and 16GB) owner who also has a Surface Pro 4 (i7 512 16GB) , I couldn't agree more. Haha. I bought the SP4 because it looked exciting in reviews, and in the store. I thought on it for months. Now I have it, and I try to use it as much as possible, to justify the ~$2500 spent, but I still turn back to my MacBook Pro every day. I'm typing on it now, with my SP4 next to my left elbow, collecting dust. My iPad Air 2 gets much more use than the SP4 too. Maybe I should have gone for an iPad Pro and saved over $1000... Don't tell my girlfriend I said that. :o

    • @Jayy997
      @Jayy997 6 років тому +2

      Demand is low? At our retailer we've sold many more Surface Book 2 (and Surfaces in general) than any other model PC. Also, please don't bring up the gimmick card - it's bullshit. These are genuinely functional and desired devices and the only real competitor to Apple's MacBook line.

    So, I got my 5290 on Monday and I've been using it daily for the past three days now and here are my thoughts about it and the review:
    1. Yes, it is a Surface Pro clone but I think it looks much better. Looks like a pro device with the simple but clean black design rather than the chintzy angled, silver edge of the Surface.
    2. The kickstand is copied, but I'm surprised that Lisa was unaware that there are two buttons at the bottom of the tablet that when pressed down on a surface will release the kickstand into open position.
    3. The kickstand does have a single, set position (the one that it opens to when you press down on the tablet) but it can open quite flat, and it is pretty stiff (has a lot of resistance to moving) though, not a concern at all like it seemed from the review.
    4. The default for the two USB type C ports is displayport over USB-C, but the priciest configuration can do thunderbolt. I don't really have the need for thunderbolt as displayport does fast data and good power over USB-C.
    5. The USB-C ports are decent and not loose, even if not as nice of a "click" feel like an Apple lightning port.
    6. Fingerprint reader (option) works pretty well.
    7. Smart card reader (option) is the reason I got this over a Surface Pro as it is the only tablet I am aware of that has a built in smart card reader. This is my #1 needed feature since I need my smart card to log into my vpn.
    8. The travel keyboard is great. Perfect match for the 5290, and doesn't look silly like the Surface Pro and all its colored keyboards. Keyboard seems higher quality also, and the track pad (which cannot be turned off) has impressive palm rejection, like I've never experienced in any (Lenovo, MacBook Air, ASUS, etc.) of my past or current laptops with a track pad. It's backlit (2 levels of brightness) and attaches very securely via magnets (a la Surface Pro). It also has a canvas type material on the back that I do not like (also like the Surface Pro) as I would prefer a more grippy/rubbery/plastic back since the canvas material may pick up stains, etc.
    9. The fans are not noisy but they do seem to be running a lot of the time.
    10. BATTERY LIFE has been a big disappointment initially ,with 5 hours being a stretch even with wifi and bluetooth on, and minimal activity besides being logged into my vpn. Maybe with a few charge cycles the battery life seems to have improved so that 6 hours seems reasonable (at the lowest processor power and darkest screen setting, which is not that dark actually) and right now it's estimating 10 hours (I doubt that though).
    11. Screen, which is 1920x1280, is perfectly lovely and if it helps stretch battery life (42WHr) by being lower res, then I am even more happy with it.
    12. Screen cannot get very dim and gets so bright that it would be usable outside, which is not important for me.
    13. Performance (I have the 8th gen, quad core, Core i5 with 8GB RAM) has been good but I don't use anything that needs much power.
    14. Overall, it's pricey (mine cost nearly $1900 shipped) but is the only tablet/2-in-1 that does exactly what I want and need and I am happy with it so far, so it's well worth it to me.

      i just bought 5290 yesterday. just wanna ask u usb 3.1 just got 1 slot. if let say i use it for wireless mouse.. how i wanna use usb drive or portable drive? are the usb c adapter any brand selling outside compatible with this 5290? thanks

    • @IMP3TIGO
      @IMP3TIGO 6 років тому

      You could try using a bluetooth mouse, although the microsoft contour bt mouse I got loses bt connection with the 5290 sometimes when idle for a while. Not sure but I think it is a 5290 issue as the mouse does not do that with my ASUS laptop. Not sure if there are any external drives with usb-c connector natively, but you could use an adapter if u need.

      @ANDREAS LARSEN Yes, the same here, although with an 5285. However what I don't agree with is the keyboard. It is sooo much worse than what my Surface Pro 3/4 had. The quality is not as nice, the leather on the top has become a bit shiny and word at places where my wrists are touching it whilst typing. And regarding typing, quite often it registers one keypress as a double press, which might be caused by my typing style, but never happened on Microsoft's devices. And those type covers still looked very nice after 1.5 years of use.

    Wow i got one for like 2000$ Cad including tax a while back
    , only the 8Gig though, came with Thunderbolt 3, and had a pen and keyboard included in this package, mind you it was on sale like over 50% off. Wouldn't pay full price of course, but Dell always does deals. Besides i also did 12 month interest free financing ~160$ a month. I would of went with Surface Pro but for the upgraded version its double what i paid for this, and cannot be serviced easily. Dell ships with a manual to take everything apart....easy battery swaps, broadband upgrades, memory upgrades/ replacements. :)

      Sometimes I feel Lenovo should just switch their Ctrl and Fn keys like everyone. I understand that they've been doing like this forever and that you can swap the keys in the bios, but still...

    • @AnthonyAccioly
      @AnthonyAccioly 6 років тому +2

      @dsego. It is true that macOS puts more emphasis on the Command key, but Ctrl is still a important key (used in the CLI, most IDES, etc). Fn key in the left corner is an ergonomic disaster.
      ThinkPads usually have an option to swap Ctrl and Fn in the BIOS. Unfortunately the key size just doesn't feel right when you are touch typing, plus, inverting the keys is not an option if you share your laptop with a non techie.

    • @IMP3TIGO
      @IMP3TIGO 6 років тому

      At least Lenovo lets you remap the ctrl button to the bottom left button for many of their laptops, including mine. My macbook drives me crazy because of the difficulty of shortcut copying, pasting, selecting all, etc.

    $2880USD for the i5 midrange spec on the Australian store. Seems like some nice specs (Wacom AES +Quadcore) but it's a big jump from an i5 Surface Pro $1570USD. That's like $1300 for two extra cores(+2T) and a worse screen.
    16gb ram model jumps up to $4000 USD.

    @MobileTechReview, what is the texture of the keyboard? I know you said it's a soft touch, but does that mean it's identical to the surface keyboard, that fake velvet feel? I'm looking to buy a system for someone who hates the texture of the surface keyboard...but likes the rest of everything about it. Turns out, Microsoft ONLY makes surface keyboards with that feel and not another type (as far as I've found).
    If anyone has advice on another system that is similar to this, but without the velvet textured keyboard, please share! It just needs to have LTE sim capability. Thanks!

    Hello: I just purchased a used Latitude 5290 2-in-1 and it has a 256GB SSD. Can I upgrade that to a 1TB M.2 SSD?
    Thank you.😊

    Loved the programming reference. What's the bandwidth on the optional Thunderbowl three connection? Does this machine have a fan?

      It has a fan, we didn't get the TB3 option. so I wasn't able to check lanes for TB3.

    How to make sure to have the Thunderbolt 3 option? In Dell website it also tells is optional but in customize doesn't let you choose this. Thanks for your videos

      Optional since the I7 is an optional upgrade. Confusing, yes. Dell's marketing team has never been the sharpest bunch when it comes to being clear and shraight-forward.
