Homophobia In 2018 | Time For Love

  • Two men hold hands in a public place, but even in 2018, something’s not quite right.
Time For Love is a poem that explores homophobia in modern society, and also the concept of normality. Do the pressures of convention turn us against one another? Is love the price?

THE KING If we censor children from things that are real and very much there, then we’re letting there be a constant stigma around something that is completely normal and shouldn’t be a problem, and then we’ll never grow.

When kids can understand and accept they are a brain in a skeleton in a meatsuit walking on a big round ball of dirt and water made of stardust that floats meaninglessly through the emptiness of the universe, they can understand and accept that there is more than one form of love.

I don’t think that’s completely true. For example, raising a chicken or a cow with a child. And one day telling them that that animal that they helped raise will be killed and eaten for dinner. Children shrink and are sickened by that idea. Even fictional characters, like little Fern from Charlottes Web. Yet they come to accept it with time.
The first time a child is told they’re eating a cow or a chicken that was once alive and is now dead, on their plate, they shrink back with disgust, like my little brother did a few months ago when he was first told exactly what he was eating.
Children often do what they’re told. But there are little sparks of authenticity to themselves that come out momentarily from within them.

    • @theonionsystem7779
      @theonionsystem7779 6 років тому +71

Jorge Isaac Ponce Posligua your argument is invalid and bullshit. You cannot compare anything to love. You can't say "so what if I have sex with my sister then, is that love?" since that is not love it is incest and they are not the same. Incest can only be ok if the two have/had no idea that they were family since that has happened sometimes. As well as pedophiles and rapists. 1. A pedophile is someone who is a lot older who has sexual urges and all that to someone who is 10 or younger or a little older and a rapist is someone who has sex with someone without consent.

ok that's nice and all but please don't stare at us, whether it be because you're jealous or 'ship' us or any of the sort. As much as we appreciate that you accept and support us, (trust me we really do) we can't know that the reason why you're staring at us is not because you hate us or disapprove of us. When you stare, for whatever reason, it makes us nervous and uncomfortable, and it makes us feel singled out and uneasy. It's a sad reality that when people stare at me and my girlfriend my mind always jumps to the worst case scenario, but at the end of the day we do have to be on guard because there are people out there that could hurt us. So please, don't stare!

In paris when i was young like eight or nine years old I saw two women violently making out in a train station and I stared at them, because I was curious and I didn't know women could kiss each other. I knew that it was possible and that I wasn't alone from that point on. So thank you, PDA lesbians from Paris.

Then hugged them, they kissed afterwards and I saw them a month later. Both with engagement rings on their fingers. Did I forget to mention they were both girls? It seems I did. Oops? Common mistake, they should just be called a couple, not named ’lesbian couple’ or ’gay couple’. I hope one day it will just be known as a couple.

God loves everyone and wants them to know him and love him back. The main point of Christianity is to accept what Jesus did on the cross to forgive people from their sinful nature (that is to put anything before God) and follow him wholeheartedly.
I would say to disagree with something does not mean we hate that person. For instance, I am a Christian with Muslim friends. I disagree with parts of what they believe as they disagree with me. We can still be friends and talk about sensitive topics with love and respect.
The issue lies in good communication. I might not like any couple "making out" on the street, straight or gay. But I have to just live with it and move on.
My own arrogance and ignorance has hurt people in the past and I am very sorry for that. If I'm honest I understand and agree with parts of the video, but not all of it. Unless I can openly disagree and talk about it without hate back, this turns it into hypocritical christianophobia and I end up none the wiser. Much love to you all

I'm a girl and I walk around my town of 160000 inhabitants in germany holding my girlfriend's hand. And yes, we do get the looks, people whisper in the mall when we hug and I kiss her forehead. We've been asked things like "hey, are you lesbians?" and we answered "yes" and stood strong through all the follow up qustions, if they were positive or negative. But I keep holding her hands because just maybe that little girl in the bus will see us and realise that it's okay for two girls to like each other and that will make her feel better about the fact that she gets butterflies in her stomach when she looks at that one girl in her class. And maybe that middleaged man behind us on the esculator will realise that his daughter won't get as hurt as she thinks she does when she tells her class she's gay, because he sees us and sees that we are happy. And maybe we can inspire those two girls in the bookshop standing next to eah other awkwardly to grab each others hands and hold them for the rest of the day. I want to inspire and that's why I don't feel ashamed but proud when I hold her hand in public.

I don't want pity, and I don't want hate, I just want you to treat me as you would treat any other person. My sexuality is a SINGLE trait, how could you base your judgement of me off of who I love?

If I ever have a child and they come out to me, I will be so disappointed. Not in my child/children, but in myself as a parent. If I make them feel like they have to break it as some kind of touchy subject news and deliberate about a possible bad reaction, instead of bringing home their partner and introducing us (just like hetero couples do), then I will have failed as a mother, and it shows me that I have to do better as a parent. If my child feels like they can't tell me something because they are scared of my reaction, then something is terribly wrong.

Transvestites aren't LGBT, Asexuals have AVEN, and though a sexual orientation it doesn't involve attraction to the same sex and or/ the desire to change your gender assigned at birth. Intersexual isn't necessarily LGBT, many studies done on that, just ask and I can link you a few, and Queer is just a reclaimed slur, not a sexuality or identity in its self.

I live in a place, in a first world country, where lgbt people don't live, they survive. They either live a life of lies or a life of loneliness and ridicule. Those strong enough get out and move, far away. You always hear politicians and even ordinary people crying out about pride and protests and shit, saying that we're already equal, that there's no discrimination, that our secret evil goal is actually to be superior, not equal. They don't understand, or don't care about what it actually means living life as a gay (or even worse trans) person here, especially outside of the big cities. And this video hurts a lot, not because it reflects the actual reactions I see people have, but because in my 22 years of life I have never seen a gay couple holding hands here. Just because we don't get stoned to death it doesn't mean we're equal

I'm British but live in France and last year there was an Australian exchange student at my school and we became really good friends. For us it was, like, normal to just hold hands sometimes, we're friends and both of us are straight so it didn't mean anything like that, it was just a friendship thing. Some people looked at us really weirdly though, it was so strange. I guess around here people just aren't that comfortable with friendly affection. A German exchange student later in the year said she noticed the same thing. I don't think I know anyone my age who's LGBTQ+ and out at school even though I know (through my LGBTQ+ friends who've had certain, um, involvements) that there are quite a few.
I hate that it's 2018 and people still aren't comfortable being themselves in public because there are always people who judge even when there's nothing to judge and it's not like it's any of their business anyway. One of my closest friends since we were 12 is a lesbian and when she got a girlfriend a couple of years ago her family (especially her step-dad) were horrible to her. I'm pretty sure the only reason things are a lot better now with them is that her girlfriend moved away (a long way away) and they barely see each other now.
I really wish people were more accepting, like I said, it's none of their business, most of the time they're complete strangers who know nothing about the people they're silently, or not so silently, judging. You don't like it? Deal with it. It doesn't affect you personally in any way, shape or form. Love is love, we're all human, and I mean, look at the world, there are way worse things to worry about than what people you pass in the street do privately. It's their business, no one else's.
A little acceptance can go a long way.

I just feel a attraction towards both genders and there is nothing wrong with that.

@AKXU Don't worry about your English, lol. It's fine.
Actually, there's no evidence that your sexual orientation is defined by genetics or environmental causes, it's a research in process even if many say otherwise. But the message in this video is about tolerance and letting people love who they love. But it's true that you can't just choose to be gay, it's an inherent part of your personality, you don't decide it. You're not born with all the traits of your personality, they develop or manifest over the years.

Why be gay if it was a choice? I didn't choose to be straight, I don't want to have kids so I'm not fulfilling my biological purpose, why am I straight? I don't know, neither do gay people but they just are. It's not rocket science

There isn't a lot of solid evidence because its emotions, something that we have a hard time scientifically proving everywhere in the world.
